<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Fixing, locking or braking device for screws and nuts and new industrial product obtained.
Certain known fixing, locking or braking devices for screws and nuts comprise resilient locking tabs extending from a disc or a washer to engage radially in the threads of the bolt or the like. These tabs are arranged along a helical surface extending along the inclination of the threads and they are intended to prevent, by radial tightening, loosening of an element such as a nut. These devices do not provide the required safety - only as far as the radial tightening of the tongues against the threads is sufficiently energetic.
If, however, this tightening is reduced, for example as a result of expansion, under the action of heat, of the elongating bolt or the like, loosening of the nut may also occur.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to the invention, this drawback is avoided by the fact that the lateral flanks of each of the tabs are in principle directed radially or obliquely with respect to the radial direction, the end of each tab coming into contact with the thread of the bolt or the like, being arranged so that its distance to the center or to the axis of the thread increases in the direction of screwing or tightening.
The invention also extends to the new industrial product consisting of the locking fixing member or (the previously defined braking.
The invention extends further to other particular points which will appear in the following text with reference to the accompanying drawing, given by way of example only., In which

peripheral 3 of this member being folded. towards the bottom. or. the top in the manner of a bulge as appears more especially in FIG. 2. The lateral flanks 4,5 of each of the locking tabs 2 are directed for example radially or substantially radially.
These flanks can, however, still be directed obliquely with respect to the radial direction, as shown in the embodiment of FIG. 3. The inner ridges or ends 6 of the locking tabs 2, coming into contact with the thread of the bolt or the like, have a shape such that their distances, at the center or at the axis of the element such as a bolt, increase in the direction of screwing or tightening. The disc 1 should be given an arched shape, directed towards the end of the bolt, and having a vertical elasticity. Likewise, the locking tabs. 2 may also have a certain elasticity.
In the exemplary embodiment according to Figures 3 and 4, the. Lateral flanks 4, 5 of each locking tab are disposed obliquely with respect to the radial direction so as to be oriented, considering the direction of screwing or tightening, obliquely towards the rear in the centrifugal direction. The outer edge 7 of the locking member is folded upwards in the form of a hexagon. The upper part 8 of the peripheral rim 7 thus formed has arcuate shapes, the convexity of which is directed upwards. The upper part 8 can also extend, parallel to the bearing face of the locking member, as shown in FIG. 6.
The other parts of the locking member are established as in the case of Figures 1 and 2 and bear the same reference numbers.
In the embodiment according to Figures 5 and 6, there are provided, between the various locking tabs 2, slots 9. In this embodiment, the lateral sides of the tabs extend from the middle of the slot 9. comprised between two tongues, following an arc or obliquely towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
both sides, so that the slits 9 have a larger width on the thread side of the bolt than on the side of the annular part 1. The side flanks 4, 5 can however still be directed radially, so that the slits have a greater width. uniform width. In the first case, the langts exhibit greater stability.
In Figure 7, there is shown the locking device according to Figures 1, 2 applied to it nut 11 screwed on a bolt 10. In this embodiment, the member (The fixing and locking is made of relatively thin sheet, had it is particularly suitable for fine threadings Figure 8 shows a non-fixing and locking member according to Figures 5 and 6 and which is applied a nut 11 screwed on a bolt 10 whose pitch is greater.
In the case of a fastening or locking member made of thin elastic sheet, this member can also be pushed on the thread of the bolt until contact with the nut to be locked, and then brought by a slight rotation into the position of locking or locking the nut. In the locked or braking position, the tongue at the lowest point is pressed like a wedge between the bolt thread and the nut thread and provides additional locking preventing loosening of the lock organ and nut.
The locking tabs 2, during engagement of the locking member on the bolt thread or when screwing the cat member onto the bolt thread, flex elastically towards the end of the bolt, and are strongly pressed, when tightening the locking member against the nut, by their most protruding part, against the thread of the bolt, in the manner of the end of a wedge.
During this clamping of the locking or braking member in clockwise rotation, the end of the wedge formed by the edge 6 of the tongue 2 is located towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the back. When rotating to the left, or in the direction of unscrewing or loosening this organ from the nut, this end of the wedge is, on the contrary, located towards the front and prevents any untimely loosening of the nut. said member and the nut, even if these members were dilated by heat or were subjected to an exaggerated force, the nut no longer being applied to its bearing surface.
For the denial of the locking or braking member, the nut is slightly tightened, so .à decrease the tightening between the nut and said member.
This member can then be easily removed by rotating it in the opposite direction to that of screwing and at the same time pressing it downwards on the nut, or else by removing it from above. The inside diameter of 1 blanket left free by the locking tabs is slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the thread, - so that the tabs 2 bend elastically, and slightly up or down during mounting on the bolt thread .
The tabs 2 are suitably cut and shaped in the manufacture of the locking member so as to finally give this member the shape shown in Figures 1, 3 and 5, and which is adapted to the thread of the bolt, the locking tabs having a certain inclination relative to the plane of the washer 1, corresponding to the pitch-.du thread of the bolt.
It is obvious that the embodiments described and represented are given here only by way of indication and not by way of limitation. All modifications which do not change the main characteristics, for the stated purpose, remain within the scope of the present invention.
