<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Two-piece tube
The invention relates to two-piece tubes which consist of a preferably rolled tubular casing and a head of preferably non-metallic material connected to this casing. In the manufacture of tubes of this type, the greatest difficulty consists, as we know, in connecting the head to the casing not only in a perfectly ethanol manner but also with sufficient mechanical strength.
The solution of this problem is particularly difficult because the joint is subjected, during the expulsion of the contents of the tube by compression of the latter, to extension forces of surprising importance, which act almost exclusively on the joint, since this seal constitutes the connection of the thin and always easily deformable casing with the head which is always much thicker and more rigid. In order to mechanically reinforce this connection zone, a cylindrical collar which optionally comprises an annular bead and has been coated with glue before fitting the cylindrical tube onto this collar is generally added to the separately manufactured head.

However, this kind of tubes until now still gave a large proportion of waste due to lack of sealing. This could not be avoided, because it was not possible, as in other bonding '' !, superimpose and '-' then wiggle the surfaces to be bonded, but it was necessary to fit the envelope adjusted on the flange of the head where the glue is always inevitably scraped off and removed by the edge of the casing of the annular flange which must be glued.
This drawback is eliminated in accordance with the invention in a very simple manner by the fact that the annular zone of the collar of the head of the tube, which must be glued, is provided with an embossing whose grooves are found to be parallel. to the longitudinal direction of the tube casing. In this way, the glue is only detached, during the fitting of the casing of the tube, from qaillanteq edges of the embossing, while it adheres badly to the hollows of the grooves, from which it is raised very early by capillary effect under the qaillie edges of the embossing; furthermore, this measure notably accelerates the drying of the glue, since its inflation and solvent content can easily evaporate through the longitudinal recesses.
The appended drawing represents, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the invention. Figure 1 shows a tube head 1 molded in phenoplasts or similar materials which is provided with a collar 2 on which is fitted the upper edge of the tubular casing 3 in the direction of the arrow, to be then glued. For this purpose, the flange 2 is coated on the outside with a suitable layer of an adhesive. If the flange 2 were smooth, or only roughened in the usual manner hitherto, the leading edge of the casing 3 fitted on this flange 2 would push this glue in front of itself and thus release it almost completely from the surface of the flange. 2.
In accordance with the invention, however, the collar 2 is provided with a fluted embossing the hollow of which are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the casing 3. As a result, the surface of the collar 2 receives a shape which FIG. 2 shows, at a much larger scale, in partial section. As seen in Figure 2, the upper edge of the envelope 3 is qupporté, due to the projecting embossing, during the fitting, exclusively by the projecting parts 4 of this embossing, while the intermediate hollows remain filled with the mass of glue 5 in such a way that this glue rises, after the fitting of the casing 3, by capillary effect, between the projecting parts 4 and the casing 3.
Preferably, the embossing according to FIG. 1 is not extended to the upper edge of the flange 2, so that its upper edge still has an annular zone 6 that is smooth or slightly roughened. The glue also penetrates "reservoirs" formed by the hollows in this annular zone, thanks to the capillary effect, and thus produces a particularly reliable seal of the gluing zone thus produced. Evaporation of the blowing agent or solvent from the glue mass takes place all along the recesses towards the inside of the tube casing, so that it is sufficient to let the tubes stand for a few minutes. hours or a few
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
days for drying, to obtain a perfect drying.
In order to form a stop for the fitting of the tube casing, there is advantageously provided on the upper end of the collar 2 a rim 7 visible in FIG. 1.
