<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Il a eté constaté que la raison pour la réduction de la force portante doit être recherchée dans la condition sous- entendue, généralement admise, que le joint prévu à l'extrémité supérieure de l'etançon ou en proximité de celle-ci, au-dessus du- quel sort l'étançon intérieur à plus petit moment d'inertie, n'est disposé régulièrement que sur la demi-hauteur de l'étançon. peu importent les raisons pour lesquelles jusqu'à présent le joint d'étanon a toujours été disposé de cette manière ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Elastic iron pond for mines.
The present invention relates to an elastic iron strut for mines, in which the inner strut telescopes in the outer strut, their joint being obtained by means of a key driven inside a pond seal disposed at the upper end of the outer stanchion or in the vicinity thereof and in which at least the outer stanchion is formed by a profile in the form of a hollow body.
For mine props of this kind and of considerable length, it was hitherto believed that the load-bearing force must necessarily decrease considerably with the increasing length of the props, for the reason that a profile resists buckling the less the longer its length is chosen, all other circumstances remaining constant.
However, according to the investigations leading to the present invention, it is not at all necessary that the load-bearing force of the props
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of a certain length decreases in the same proportions with the increasing length of the stanchions, as has been observed up to now in the normal embodiments of the stanchions. As struts of a certain length in the sense of the present invention, struts with a minimum length of 1.70 m are considered. in the assembled state.
It has been observed that the reason for the reduction of the bearing force must be sought in the condition implied, generally admitted, that the joint provided at the upper end of the strut or in the vicinity thereof, at the- above which the inner strut comes out with the smallest moment of inertia, is only regularly placed on the half-height of the stanchion. it does not matter why until now the gasket has always been arranged in this way;
the fact exists that this unfavorable disposition has always been carried out, not believing to be able to waive such a disposition of the gasket of the gasket,
The load-bearing force of struts of a certain length, in which the buckling load becomes less than the breaking load, increases jerkily, if, according to the invention, the outer strut is chosen longer than half of the total length of the strut, while maintaining a sufficient shortening path. In this embodiment of the outer strut, the buckling length of the inner strut is significantly reduced, so that its moment of inertia, necessarily lower, can no longer produce the same unfavorable effects as in known constructions of the struts.
The increase in load-bearing force by increasing the length of the outer strut already produces its effects, if the profile of the inner strut has a cross-sectional shape similar to that of the lower strut and does not overlap. It differs mainly from the external prop from a dimensional point of view than by the normally small thickness of the walls of the external profile. Thus, it has been observed with respect to a hollow profile subjected to in-depth tests that the moment of inertia of a hollow profile, serving as an external strut,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
was 430 cm4 for a cross-sectional area of 28 cm2, while the guided sliding inner profile did have a section approximately equal to 26 cm2, but on the other hand a moment of inertia of only about 130 cm4.
In struts of shorter length, it will normally be impossible to obtain an improvement in resistance ratios by increasing the length of the outer strut beyond half of the total height of the strut. , because, for certain reasons, the profiles of the external and internal props are made in determined minimum dimensions and because for these profiles, compared to the rather reduced height in itself of the props, it is not the buckling, but the breaking strength, which determines the upper limit of the load.
Prints available to the public have already represented mine props, in which the seal is arranged. above half of the total height of the prop. however, in all of these publications, it is regularly missing the indication that, starting from determined total lengths of the prop, the arrangement of the joint above half of the total height of the prop provides the benefit of strengthening the load-bearing capacity.
Therefore;' it may happen that the specialist, carrying out on the basis of said publications a prop with disposed joint. above half the total height, apply this method to a pond with a total length of 1.4 m, in this case, which in this case does not provide any advantage for the load-bearing capacity, but on the contrary, there is a disadvantage due to wasted material for the lower strut.
Obviously, in cases where the buckling resistance in props of a certain length is less than the breaking load, one can get by by reinforcing the profile of the inner prop. But in this case, according to a general rule, the profile of the outer strut must also be reinforced, a measure which results in a significant increase in the weight of the strut to be kept within limits as small as possible. Likewise,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
experience has shown that the reinforcement of the profiles in the case of maintaining the arrangement of the prop joint over about half the length has very little effect for snipers of a certain size.
On the other hand, the increase according to the invention of the length of the outer strut beyond half of the length of the strut brings about a substantial improvement in the resistance ratios in the presence of an augman. - only reduced weight of the prop due to the insignificant increase in the length of the outer prop.
It has been found useful to arrange the prop joint at about two thirds to three quarters of the total height of the prop, corresponding to total lengths of the props between 1.5 and 3.5. mr. respectively 3 and 5 m.
The performance of the prop is increased. and its manufacture is facilitated if, for total lengths of the prop of about 1.5-3.5 m., respectively 3-5 m. the length of the inner strut is 1 resp. 2 m. Indeed, it has been observed that the multiplicity of props achievable between 1.5 and b m. full length can be achieved with inner props of the two lengths indicated, without causing any inconvenience to the strength and utility of the pond.
The accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the mine sealant according to the invention. fig.l is a side view of a new prop, fig.2 and 3 represent the sectional profiles of the exterior and interior props.
The prop is formed as usual by an external prop a, resting in a known manner on the lower layer by means of a base plate and by an internal prop b. The latter is a sliding guide inside the former. Both are essentially hollow in shape, with sections shown in Figures 2 and 3. The joining of the two strut elements is obtained by means of a driven key, disposed in a manner known per se in a pond seal c at the top end of the outer strut.
The external prop is dimensioned so
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
that the prop joint provided at its upper end is arranged substantially above half the height of the total prop; in the embodiment, it is provided at about two thirds of the total height. This position corresponds approximately to a total length of 11 stanchions located between 1.5 and 3.5 m. For longer lengths of the prop, that is to say in the size between 3 and 5 m., The prop joint is placed at about three quarters of the total length, in order to obtain for these long lengths of the prop also great forces load-bearing.
