 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

  Piston shut-off valve.

   The present invention relates to a piston stop valve.

  Such valves are known and are preferably employed when the pressure of the circulating fluid to be stopped or allowed to pass is relatively high. In the construction of such valves, it has heretofore generally been sought to unload the piston as completely as possible, so that when opening and closing the valve, only exertion is required. the effort required to overcome the inevitable sealing friction of the valve piston.

   For high pressures which can reach 1000 atmospheres and more, for example in pressurized liquid lines of hydraulic presses, the sealing friction reaches however exceptionally high values that, in order to overcome them - when moving of the piston in the direction of opening or closing of the valve - a very great force has to be applied and as a result manual handling of these valves is very difficult.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The object of the invention is to create an improved piston valve which, even for the highest possible pressures, can be opened by hand as well as by playing, can also be closed very easily and whose piston can be closed. maintained automatically in the desired position - both in the direction of opening and in the direction of closing - by the pressure of the circulating fluid.

   In its improved embodiment according to the invention, the valve is characterized firstly because the piston is two-stage and in that around each stage is provided a special chamber in the valve body; it is further characterized in that one of these chambers is placed in communication with the external air, while the other is connected to a control duct which leads from the pressure side of the through channel of the valve to a closed space of the valve body located on the upper side of the piston, this duct containing a known prior control capable of being influenced alternately by a position member to be screwed onto the piston rod by moving relatively and the along it.

   in this way, the valve can be opened and closed as much as desired without the position member being influenced in any way in its displacement capacity by the magnitude of the sealing friction at the end. inside the valve. All that remains is to move the position member in either direction along the piston rod outside the valve body to immediately determine under the action of the pressure of the fluid a displacement of the piston - in the direction of opening or closing Another very important advantage is that any displacement of the piston actuated by the pressure of the fluid, possible displacement, but not wanted, due to leaks,

   is immediately absorbed and made impossible by an automatic request of the c onnue prior order,
If the circulating fluid is not under pressure or if such

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 fluid is not in the valve, it is obviously impossible for automatic opening and closing to occur following the request of the prior control. In order to be able however still then to open and. to close the valve, a special improvement is provided in accordance with the invention, which consists in the displacement of the position member being limited in a determined manner with respect to a fixed stop relative to the valve body.

   Another improvement in accordance with the invention resides in that, for a particular purpose which will be explained in detail in the description below of an exemplary embodiment, there is provided a stopper capable of yielding elastically, specific to each bu- stroke limitation tee of the position member which has to limit the movement of this position member in the direction of closing of the valve.

   Finally, the improved valve according to the invention is further characterized in that the control duct is connected, both in front of and behind the closing seat, to the duct which can be closed off by the piston, or the duct. crossing of the valve and in that, in the half: connections, there is a check valve. The special advantage of this arrangement is that for the automaticity of the opening movement from the closed position it is completely irrelevant whether the operating pressure in the valve is brought to one side or the other. .

   The invention will be described in more detail in. description below of an exemplary embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing of a piston shut-off valve for high pressure liquid lines.

   1 designates the valve body and 2 the shutter piston, surrounded in the valve body, around a first stage 3, by a chamber 4 completely filled with liquid, and, around a second stage 5, d 'a chamber 6, connected at 7 to the external air. 8 is the control duct which leads from the pressure side of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 through the valve which can be closed off by the lower end of the piston 2, to a chamber 8 closed to the outside, filled with liquid under pressure and situated on the upper side of the piston, this duct 8 comprising a known prior control 10. In the embodiment shown, the connection of the control line to the closable passage channel of the valve body is double, that is to say it takes place both in front of and behind the seat of the valve. closing 11.

   In each of the connecting conduits 8 ', 8 ", a shut-off valve 12, 13 is provided, so that the pressurized liquid cannot pass around the closing seat 11 as soon as the latter must be closed with the aid. of piston 2. 14 designates the connection of the annular chamber 4 to the control line 8, and a special safety valve for this annular chamber 15. To the pre-control known per se belong two control valves a, b, which can be operated by means of a lever 16 with two arms suitably mounted to the housing or valve body 1.

   This lever 16 which is equipped at each of its two ends with a roller 17, 18 is actuated by a position member 19 screwed onto a thread of the piston rod 20 and is provided with a concentric cam 21. mounted between the two rollers 17-18. It should also be noted that the piston of the valve and the rod 20 rigidly connected thereto are guided in a sealed manner, preferably in sleeves 22-25.

   Assuming that the operating pressure propagates through the control line and from there at least to the annulment chamber 4 and up to the prior control on, the operation is as follows:
With the valve closed, the pre-control lever 16 is kept oscillated in a clockwise direction by the cam 21 of the position member 19 then screwed somewhat upwards relative to the rod 20 of the piston. The pressurized liquid arrives through the control line, not only in the chamber 4, but also in the chamber 9 by the pre-control 10, or by the valve a kept open by the members 16, 21, and by the section 8a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 of the control line.

   Since the piston area in chamber 9 is larger than the piston area in front of seat 11, the valve is held securely. closed by the pressure of the circulating fluid which charges the upper face of the piston 2.

   If the valve is to be opened, the position member 19 must be turned on the piston rod 20 in the direction of downward movement, whereby the lever 16 is oscillated around its point of rotation in the opposite direction. clockwise, so that the pre-control valve b should open directly after closing the pre-control valve a. The pressurized liquid can then no longer pass from line 8 through valve a.

   The chamber 9 on the upper side of the piston 2 is, however, placed in communication by the open valve b, with the output of the pre-control, and therefore the operating pressure which only acts on the face. lower and stage 3 of piston 2 can still determine a movement of the piston (upward movement) in the direction of the valve opening. As soon as one stops moving the position member 19 downwards on the rod 20 rigidly connected to the piston and which moves upwards with the latter, the position member 19 will obviously participate in the upward movement and thereby cause the pre-control lever 16 to oscillate clockwise and therefore the valve b to be closed.

   As soon as this is achieved the pressurized liquid which is still in the chamber 9 can no longer escape, and thus any further upward movement of the piston is made impossible and the valve must lock in the position of. corresponding opening. To fully open the valve, it is necessary to screw the position member 19 on the rod 20 which moves upwards with the piston - and thus maintain by the cam 21 and the lever 16 the valve b in the position open - until piston 2 has reached its highest position. If the piston 2: must be brought from its highest posi- tion to the closed position, it is necessary to move

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 the position member 19 down on the piston rod 20, by a corresponding rotation.

   The lever 16 is then oscillated by the cam 21 of the position member. 19 clockwise, i.e. valve b is closed first and immediately after valve a is opened. The operating pressure will therefore enter chamber 9 above piston 2 from line 8 via valve a and section Sa of the line and cause the piston to move downwards in the closing direction. of the valve; again, movement of the valve piston will only occur as long as the position member 19 is moved up on the rod 20 moved down and the valve a is held open.

   If piston 2 is in the half-open position, as shown in the drawing, and if both valves a and b are closed, it is clearly visible that automatic displacement of piston 2 cannot occur either in either way,
It may happen, in certain circumstances, that for example the valve b is no longer tight after a certain time and that a certain quantity of pressurized liquid tries to escape from the chamber 9.

   There will then be a very small upward displacement of the piston, which will hardly change the opening width of the valve, and therefore the valve a will be opened by a corresponding amount, so that the loss sealing by the pre-control valve b will be compensated by the pressurized liquid flowing from the control line 8 by the correspondingly opened valve a, and thus any further upward movement of the piston. 2, will be prevented.

   If, for example, the pre-control valve a is no longer tight, the piston 2 will show a very small downward movement, which only slightly changes the set amount of valve opening, resulting in that the valve b will be opened by a corresponding amount and that the liquid passing through the leaking valve can escape into the open air through the valve b, without

 determine another unwanted downward movement in the closing direction of the valve.

   It emerges from the foregoing that opening and closing, respectively the adjustment of the valve to a desired opening position, take place entirely automatically by the operating pressure and each time to the extent that the pre-control. of 10 is influenced by the position member 19 or its cam 21.

  However, the valve must be able to be opened and closed when there is no working pressure or when the working pressure does not reach the pipe connected at 26, 27 and not specially shown. For this purpose, it is provided, in accordance with the invention, that the path of movement of the position member 19 on the stem 20 relative to the valve body is limited in a determined manner. In the example shown, there is provided for this on the part of the member 19 screwed onto the rod 20, two annular flanges 28, 29, at a determined spacing, and in addition a cross member 30 attacking between these annular flanges , which is in a fixed position relative to the body of the valve, for example by two rods 31 on the cover 32 of the valve body.

  When the valve has to be closed by hand (in which case, due to the lack of operating pressure, there is no need to overcome exaggerated sealing friction at the sleeves 22-25 and consequently the The valve piston is relatively easy to move - mounted in both directions in the valve body) The valve piston can then be moved downward by corresponding rotation of the position member. On the piston rod 2. first still stationary, the member 19 is screwed upwards and when the annular flange 29 then rests against the cross member 30, any other movement towards the. top of the position member 19 relative to the cross member 30 is impossible, so that the piston 2 is forced, during the continuation of the rotational movement of the position member, to descend, and therefore to move in the direction of the closure.

   If a closed valve, not subject to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 pressure, must be opened by hand, it is necessary to screw down the position member 19 on the rod 20. When then the annular flange is in contact with the cross member 30, the piston is pulled upwards when the movement of rotation of member 19 continues, and the piston is thus forced to move towards the opening position.

   As a very particular improvement of the valve, it should also be indicated that for the stop 29 which limits the movement path of the position member during a movement of the piston in the closing direction, a stop is provided. 33 likely to yield elastically. This elastic stop 33 consists, in the embodiment shown, of a strong coil spring, which does not mean, however, that it is not possible, instead of such a spring, to use any other means, for example in the form of any elastic plate, or the like. The purpose of this resilient stop is immediately understood if we consider that the body of the valve under the operating pressure will lengthen somewhat.

   If the piston is closed while being under the operating pressure, the annular flange 29 will move up against the cross member 30 when screwing up the position member 19, and if it is screwed even more towards the up the member 19 - thinking that we could thus apply the piston even more strongly on its seat - this stop could be applied so strongly against the cross member 30 that the great danger would then arise that, when the operating pressure comes to lower or even disappear completely for any reason whatsoever, the annular flange 29 is sheared from the position member, the body or casing of the valve having become pressure-less contracting to its original length,

   Such damage to the valve or to its position member and to the limiting stops provided therein is, however, made impossible by virtue of the elastic stop 33 provided by the invention.

   Moreover, it should also be noted that for the valve shown in the drawing, it is irrelevant whether the pipe under pressure to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 either in one direction or another, because the control line 8 is connected both in front of and behind the seat 11.

   For valves where the pressurized fluid always only arrives from the same side, the two 8'-8 "fittings are not absolutely essential for the control line 8. If it is assumed that the pressurized fluid always enters through the opening 26 and exits through the opening 27, one could dispense with the connector 8 '. Conversely, the connector 8 "could be omitted when the pressurized fluid still arrives at 17 and leaves at 26.

   Note also that all valve body control line connections are provided with small check valves 34-37. This has the advantage that any repair work that becomes necessary for the valve control device can be undertaken without having to interrupt the operation of the pressure line enclosing the valve (line connected at 26-27). .

   As soon as the small check valves 34 to 37 have been closed by hand, there will be no noticeable changes in the position of the piston 2, i.e. in the opening size of the valve. , that is to say that the flow of pressurized fluid passing through the valve and necessary for maintaining the speed of an installation such as for example a hydraulic press remains undisturbed and despite this, the pipes can be dismantled. control valve together with check valves 12, 13, pre-control valve 10, and other control parts 19, 21, to examine, overhaul or replace with others.

   Finally, it should be noted that the purpose of the relief valve 15 of the annular chamber 4 is to prevent the possibility of tearing of the valve body when the valve 35 has been inadvertently closed or when the valve has been omitted. open a component which had been closed to allow overhaul or repair work to the control device. When the valve 35 is closed, a movement

 The working pressure of the piston 2 due to the operating pressure would determine in the annular chamber 4 a very dangerous increased pressure, but this can escape through the safety valve 5, so that there is no no fear of damage.
