<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

"CLEANER FOR ALL APPLICATIONS AND ESPECIALLY FOR GAS
OF GAZOGENES. "
The subject of the present invention is a gas purifier which can be used in general and in particular for the purification of gases supplied by fixed or mobile gasifiers.
In known scrubbers of the wet type, implementing the gas purification process. by liquid contacts and rolling, the desired degree of gas purification, especially in the case of gasifiers, is not kept constant at all engine speeds and more especially when suction is maximum. In addition, these scrubbers require frequent cleaning.
The purifier according to the invention makes it possible to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and ensures maximum purification. It is of a simple construction, easy to maintain while ensuring the automatic cleaning of the filter elements.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This scrubber is mainly characterized by at least one enclosure movable relative to the level of a liquid, provided with filtration means and in which the gas to be purified circulates, the enclosure being immersed momentarily, either automatically or under the action of appropriate means in the purifying or treatment liquid in order to periodically impregnate the filter material while ensuring the cleaning thereof.
In one embodiment of a scrubber, particularly for gasifier gases, the enclosure, which takes the form of an overturned shovel or of a gutter blocked at one of its ends, is hinged so as to lift. automatically under Inaction of the suction vacuum of the engine to release liquid from its open end, the gas which arrives in the enclosure escaping through said opening after having passed through the filtering material of the enclosure.
The invention also extends to the objects of detail constituting the main object and in particular to the following points applied separately or in all combinations: a) The enclosure, open at one end and the bottom of which is limited by the liquid , is hinged at its other end and balanced so that the outlet opening is almost completely submerged in the liquid when at rest. b) The gas inlet is effected by a tube opening inside the enclosure, the outlet of the tube being arranged so that in the event of a return, the bottom of the enclosure applies. on this outlet to close it. o) The filtration means are constituted by filtering walls, glass wool or other suitable material and in particular by threads or bristles.
d) Preferably, the filter material and in particular
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the sonor hairs have an increasing density as one approaches the exit of the enclosure. e) Suitably arranged walls or baffles can be provided on the purified gas circuit, after leaving the enclosure.
In the case of a gas purification system supplied by gasifiers or not, it is possible to use a gas inlet passage terminated by two mobile purification enclosures which are successively immersed, either automatically or under the action of a positive command.
The purification enclosure can be established in the form of a bell which oscillates while rotating around a fixed point so as to successively submerge all the filtering parts.
In general, the purification enclosure can have any desired shape and it is possible to combine, in the same installation, several enclosures in series or in parallel.
The scrubbing or treatment liquid may consist of oil, gas oil or the like, or of an appropriate chemical composition.
In certain cases, the purifiers can carry out purification by chemical means, others only a physical purification by viscous contact, others finally can ensure an enrichment of the gas, the liquid being constituted by alcohol or others.
Another embodiment of a scrubber according to the invention is mainly characterized in that the enclosure has the shape of an annular bell and is movable vertically around a central inlet tube for the gases to be purified which engage peripherally in the said enclosure which they cross in the centripetal direction while walking through
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
bristles, threads or the like in order to finally escape through ducts provided on said enclosure in the immediate vicinity of the intake tube.
This embodiment is further characterized by the following points applied separately or in any combination: a) The downward movement of the enclosure is limited by a spring. b) The enclosure is partially immersed in an annular casing containing an appropriate liquid and in particular water; the central part of this casing constituting the inlet tube for the gases to be purified. c) The enclosure comprises, above the evacuation chimneys, at least one plate forming a screen and a baffle. d) The upper part of the housing has a safety filter. e) An extraction door for the enclosure and the safety filter is provided in the upper lateral region of the housing.
The invention also extends to other partial points which will appear in the following text made with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example only, in which:
Figure 1 is an overall elevation, in section, of a scrubber established according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan seen from below, with section taken along line II-II of Figure 1.
Figures 3, 4 and 5 show the device for adjusting the tension of the enclosure balancing spring.
Figure 6 is an elevational view, in axial section, of another embodiment of an improved scrubber.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The purifier, represented by way of example only by lesfigures 1 to 5 and which is more especially intended for the purification of gases supplied by a gasifier for supplying an engine of a motor vehicle, is of a construction simple and robust.
This purifier comprises an upper removable cover a provided with a filler cap b, a baffle o, a screen d and an outlet duct for the purified gases.
This cover can receive various orientations depending on the arrangement of the installation on board the vehicle, for example.
The seal of the cover to with the scrubber body is shown in f.
Stops form stops for the purification enclosure h which is formed by two lateral flanges, a bottom and a rear wall. In the example shown, the bottom of the enclosure h comprises bristles which extend inside this enclosure as illustrated.
A level plug i makes it possible to determine the level of the liquid in the purifier.
The brush, formed by the bottom of the enclosure provided with bristles, is mounted in a removable manner using a wing nut j. The side shields of the enclosure are
EMI5.1
extended in k to receive an axis m of articulation of this enclosure which is balanced by a spring 1 wound on the axis. In addition, the flanges k include springs n for damping the enclosure in the event of return.
The gases to be purified arrive via the pipe 0 which is bent to open into the purification chamber.
On the body of the purifier are provided a support angle and a drain plug 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
It will be noted that the tension of the balancing spring 1 can be modified by angular displacement of the axis m, one of the ends of which has a saw cut s for a screwdriver, so as to allow the engagement of a pin t , integral with the axis m, in notches formed in a fixed collar r.
After adjusting the spring tension, the axis m is held in translation in its angular adjustment position by a plug v as shown in FIG. 2.
The operation of the purifier previously described is as follows
Under the action of the suction of the motor, a vacuum is produced in the pipe e and in the upper part of the purifier, which causes the enclosure h to rise, which comes to the position h 'indicated. in phantom lines.
The uncleaned gases s, arriving via the bent pipe c in the enclosure h, pass through the mass of bristles impregnated with liquid and escape as indicated by the arrows. These gases pass through the baffle c which is combined with the screen d to perform a final gas wiping.
The arrangement adopted makes it possible to obtain a minimum braking of the gases while ensuring a flow according to the suction value of the motor.
It will be noted that the brush device provides lamination of the gases allowing complete purification by viscous contact.
In addition, the oscillating movements of the brush, as a function of the variations in the value of the vacuum, cause automatic cleaning of the bristles which rub against each other.
We can provide a screen or baffle x opposite
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
of the enclosure outlet so as to avoid an influx of gases in the event of a sudden increase in the value of Inspiration.
The enclosure is adjusted to allow a small amount of gas to pass through for idling.
In the lower part of the liquid can be placed a grid under which the sludge and impurities are deposited and which prevents, while the vehicle is running, a new mixing of this sludge with the liquid.
In some instances, it could be possible to periodically immerse the brush or other filtering device while keeping the enclosure stationary and modifying the level of the scrubbing or treating liquid.
As in the embodiment described above, the scrubber illustrated in FIG. 6 comprises a purification enclosure h, an inlet pipe for the gases to be purified and a pipe e for discharging the purified gases.
The enclosure h takes the form in principle of an annular bell comprising: outer 1 and inner 8 side walls and an upper bottom 3 into which several chimneys 4 extend downwardly below an annular plate 5 open. the peripheral edge of which is folded down at 6 and which serves as a support for the filtering material consisting in particular of fibers or bristles 7. The whole of the enclosure h described above can move vertically in translation on a tube central admission 8 forming guide. This tube 8 opens at its lower part into a space 9 into which the gases to be purified are admitted through line c.
A spring 10 limits the downward movement of the enclosure h which is partially immersed in a suitable liquid 11 stored in a casing 12, the upper part of which receives a safety filter 14 arranged opposite
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
of the purified gas evacuation pipe.
The safety filter 14, which may '* be of any type, consists in particular of glass wool or the like held between perforated plates. This filter is locked in position by a screw 15 and it is supported by parts 16 integral with a grid 17 movable in translation on slides 18 fixed inside the casing 12 which comprises a side door 19 held by hand wheels 20 .
A filler cap constituting an overflow is provided at 21.
The operation of the purified their previously described is as follows.
The gases to be purified, arriving through the pipe c, flow into the lower chamber 9 of the casing then through the central pipe 8, into the upper part of the enclosure or plunging bell h which rises accordingly. suction of the motor. The gases then pass peripherally under the edge 6 of the annular plate 5 and pass through the mass 7 of filter material to finally escape from the hood through the stacks 4. The path of the gases is indicated by arrows.
At the outlet of the chimneys 4, the purified gases re-enter a screen 2e constituting a baffle and finally flow through the grid 17, and the safety filter 14, towards the exhaust pipe.
It will be noted that, as a result of variations in engine speed and the bumps of the road, the bell moves vertically and the filtering material is momentarily immersed, partially or totally, in the liquid 11 so as to ensure a automatic material cleaning. Moreover, in the case where this material is constituted by hairs or threads, these clean each other by rubbing the
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
against each other. A deposit drain plug is provided at 23 at the lower part of the housing 12.
It will be noted that as the bell rises, the mass of filtering material through which the gas passes increases, so that a substantially constant vacuum is obtained at all engine speeds.
Disassembly of the purifier can be done very easily after opening the door 19. In fact, the grid 17 is removed, then the safety filter 14 to completely release the upper part of the housing 18. The plunging bell is then raised. to bring it opposite the opening of the door 19 and extract it.
It is obvious that the embodiments described and represented are given here only by way of indication and not by way of limitation. Any modifications or variants which do not change the main characteristics described above, nor the aim pursued, remain within the scope of the present invention.
