 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Method and apparatus for the preparation of core sand with disintegrated cupola slag.

   The present invention relates to a process for preparing core sand with disintegrated cupola slag and comprises that the disintegration is achieved by the effect of a water jet on the molten cupola slag. These cupola slags broken up in this way can furthermore be subjected to a subsequent finer grain pulverization mechanically. In connection with these proposals, a device is recommended for carrying out the process, characterized in that it is provided as a flow channel for the iron slag sprayed with water from all sides a closed pipe without coating. interior and furthermore the flow channel is corrugated in the anterior part of the plane of its fall.

   It is already known to use finely pulverized cupola slag for the manufacture of cores, by adding a binder thereto. Contrary to these usual processes, it is obtained, by the disintegration of cupola slag according to the invention by means of a water jet,

 with a view to subsequent use as core sand, a finer-grained product of lower density, than by pulverizing cupola soories by known mechanical methods. As a result, very considerable advantages are obtained for the manufacture of cores.

   The appended drawing shows, by way of example, in fig. 1 and 2, in plan and side view, an embodiment of a device for carrying out the process according to the invention, while the Figure 3 shows a vertical median section through the centrifugal and grain disintegrating device.

   The slag coming from the taphole 1 of the cupola 2 is collected by a drainage channel 3 and exposed to a powerful water jet spraying them from all sides, so that they are disintegrated and cooled as they continue their path. flow. As the flow channel 3 for the granulated and mixed water slag, a closed pipe without an inner lining is provided, which is preferably corrugated in the front part of the plane of its fall, like the indicates the plan view shown in Figure 1.

   This channel 3 leads the granulated slag mixed with water from the cupola to a tank 4, with a perforated sieve bottom 5, allowing the water to flow out. Inside the tank 4 is mounted a centrifugal wheel 7 provided with perforated scoops 6 and rotating at a fairly low speed. Said rotating wheel grasps the slag sand brought in, releasing it almost completely from its water, to then throw the granulated slag from the cupola through the chamber 8 to a scoop wheel 9, which in turn throws the sand against a ring 10, making its grain finer in this way. The sand rejected by the ricocheur ring 10 then arrives in a reservoir enveloping this ring, from where it is brought to its final use.

   In the presence of several cupolas, the supply line proper to the centrifugal and grain disintegrating device is provided with a number of connections proportional to the number of cupolas, as is apparent from Figure 1.
