  Chasse - neige.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 fig.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

  Snow plow.

   In the snow plows known until now, in the form of a turbine, the paddle wheel engages in the snow in a relatively narrow zone, perpendicular to the axis of the throwing wheel, that is to say say approximately in a single shot: All the snow particles to be expelled must therefore be evacuated in this narrow zone, which has the effect that the snow particles interfere with each other. The absorption capacity of a snow plow of this kind can therefore only be low.

   These conditions are present, for example, in devices in which the actual projectors members are preceded by a system of blades which act for example in the manner previously described. To the stated disadvantage of the apparatus described is added that apart from the means! primary removal, intended to seize the snow, a secondary means is provided and the latter is in the form of a projector rotor.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The invention effectively overcomes this disadvantage with the aid of one or more removal drums, each of which acts as a primary removal means and comprises, within the housing; vanes rotating around its axis and whose enveloping, formed by the free internal edges, delimits a cavity coaxial with the drum and narrowing from the orifice.

   In vane systems which meet this condition, the different vanes surround a cavity. The snow entering this cavity constitutes a conical body in the form of a trunk, the peripheral parts of which are in engagement with the blades which surround it and are caught and thrown away.

   In particular, the arrangement according to the invention can be provided so that, not only the enveloping edges of the edges limiting the blades, but these edges themselves, circumscribe a cavity, coaxial with the drum, and narrowing from the orifice. The envelopes can therefore constitute the generatrices of one or more cones coaxial with the drum.

   They can also be the generators of cylinders when several coaxial cylinders are connected to one another so that there then results a longitudinal section in steps, the casing of which is still formed of a or more cones. The vanes may have any shape, for example they may have the shape of a spiral wrapped around a body of revolution, also including those constituted by removal vanes of any shape. arranged in several successive planes, the edges of the pallets getting closer to the axis of the drum as their distance from the leading edge of the removal profile towards the inside and towards the rear is greater. The invention therefore extends to all the embodiments constituting

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 -a hollow snow plow.

   According to the invention, the blades are rotary members of any shape which grip the snow by one or more edges,
In the drawing, figs. 1 and 2 show diagrammatically, and by way of comparison, the operation of the projecting wheels in the form of a turbine, known hitherto and that of the object of the invention. Fig. 3 is a cross section of one embodiment of the device in the plane indicated by arrow 9 in FIG. 2. FIG. 4 shows in longitudinal section a possible form of the projecting wheel in which the limit edges of the blades belong to a cone coaxial with the drum, the depth of the blades being subdivided by partitions. FIG. 5 is a section perpendicular to the axis of the drum, along line a-b of FIG. 4.

   Fig. 6 is a similar section taken along the line c-d of FIG. 4. Fig.7. shows a particularly shaped partition wall.

   According to fig. 1, which concerns the snowplow turbines known so far, the snow particles 1, 2, 3, entering in the direction of arrow 7, must, under Inaction of the centrifugal force, follow the path of the narrow area 4 , delimited by the flanges 5 of the housing, and having only a very small width 6.

   According to the invention, as shown in FIG. 2, there is available for the evacuation of the various particles 1,2,
3, of a whole series of plans in a large area. geur 4, groe to, the great depth 6 of the projection wheel. the different particles 1, 2, 3, which, in the arrangement according to FIG. 1, - interferes with each other on their way outwards, populate, in the arrangement according to the invention (fig. 2) continue their way outwards under the action of centrifugal force, remaining completely independent of each other.

   The different

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 particles 1,2,3 entering the cavity 17 of the apparatus in the direction 7 and captured by the edges 10 of the vanes 15 converging in the shape of a cone towards the interior, are projected outwards and evacuated by chimneys 8 or the like in direction 9. Thanks to the large depth 6 of the projecting wheels, these have a great absorption capacity so that, practically, the throughput can be increased without limit. Each projecting wheel therefore acts as a hollow snow plow.

   The snow fills the interior cavity 17 of the propelling wheel and enters the rotating body surrounding the cavity and the compartments formed between the vanes 15; it is then discharged into the exhaust chimney 5 and projected outside through it. The arrival of the snow at the projecting wheels is partially achieved by the fact that, when the vehicle carrying the snowplow moves forward, it is pushed back into the cavity of the projecting wheels, which can be greatly favored. by guide plates 16. However, the effect of the method of construction of the projecting wheels according to the invention, functioning as air extractors, is not negligible for supplying the snow plow.

   Taking into account the fact that freshly fallen powder snow contains up to 80% air, the high suction effect of the projecting wheel (s) on the snow can be explained, provided that the speed of rotation is suitably chosen. In combination with the exhaust chimney, the snow plow therefore functions as an air vacuum device, in which the air flow produced, entrains the ice particles from the snow. Due to their density greater than that of air, these particles are carried along until contact with the wall b of the housing during the rotation of the projecting wheel, while the air current is blown into the housing. , area below.

   As well as my-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 be fig. 3, the stream of ice particles' 11 is carried by a stream of air 12 and it is thus projected out of the chimney 8.

   In snow-plowing turbines known heretofore, in which the edges of the blades lie in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the drum, the air is drawn in essentially along the axis and also circulates between the blades essentially in the direction of the axis. On the other hand, the ice particles which, as a result of friction and sliding on the blades, perform an oblique movement, move outwards.

   Their movement therefore differs from that of the air with which they are mixed. The separation of the discharge directions of the ice particles and the air which results therefrom in known apparatus is unfavorable to the discharge process.

   In the device according to the invention, on the contrary, the ice particles as well as the air circulate radially outwards, so that the two movements help each other. For the device according to the invention, this results in a much higher efficiency than that of known devices.

   The embodiment according to fig. 4-6, comprises partition walls 13 arranged at right angles to the axis of the drum. They are advantageous for reducing the depth 6 of the blades. This embodiment also comprises planar vanes, oriented radially; But it is also possible to use a.ubes of any shape, curved, bent, etc., in any position, but oriented in the direction of the axis 19 of the drum; these vanes may be interrupted by partition walls 13 of any shape and orientation. Each partition wall may have a constant height 14 over the entire periphery of the drum, as shown in the figures.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 fig. 4 and 5.

   The height of the different partition walls can be the same or different. It is also possible to provide for the arrangement of partition walls 13 on certain parts only of the periphery of the drum, the partition walls of neighboring zones then being offset with respect to one another. But, according to fig. 7, it is also possible to provide a variable height 14 over the entire periphery of the drum for all the partition walls 13 or only for some of these partitions.

   To adapt the circular surfaces, swept by the projecting wheels, to the quadrangular removal profile, it is advantageously possible to provide guide plates 16 which, by a wedge effect, bring the snow into the work surfaces.

   The projecting wheel can be limited externally by any body of revolution, in particular a cone lo converging in the direction of the drive side (fig. 2). In this way, it is possible to make the projecting wheel or wheels fill as large a part of the discharge profile as possible. The arrival of snow to the projecting wheels is thus greatly facilitated.

   The device may include one, two or more projecting wheels. In the latter case, the projecting wheels can turn in opposite directions or in the same direction with equal or different speeds; it is also possible to provide means for varying the direction of rotation, and the speed of rotation, possibly even during operation, so that the snow driven out can be deposited on one or both sides of the road and at suitable distances from the edges of this road. Depending on the nature and quantity of the snow, one can use

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 Likewise, projecting wheels of different constitution with blades of different construction and arrangement.

   Consequently, it will be extremely advantageous to provide an easily interchangeable mounting of these wheels, for example by means of a central clamping nut 20.

   The vanes 15 may have a variable arrangement with respect to the drum, the change of orientation being able to be effected during operation for the purpose of varying the pitch of the vanes, thereby allowing the absorption capacity to be modified. evacuation speed, etc. of the device. This arrangement offers an additional possibility for adaptation to any snow conditions that may arise.

   The device according to the invention is particularly suitable for removing fresh snow and, in this case, tests have shown that it is superior to all other devices, both as regards the speed of the snow. 'removal at a point determined as regards the speed of advance of the whole vehicle carrying the snowplow.

   However, the tests have also shown that the projecting wheels according to the invention can be used for the removal of hard and frozen snow which the blades divide into clods.
