  "DETENDEUR A COMPENSATION AUTOMATISE POUR GAZ
COMPRIME"

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   L'expérience a toutefois montré que dans les appareils de ce type la. différence entre la pression extérieure et la pression de la chambre de détente ne reste pas rigoureusement constante. En effet, alors que la force de rappel de la membrane est invariable (qu'il   N'agisse   de 1'élasticité propre de cette membrane ou d'un ressort auxiliaire) la pression agissant sur la soupape d'entrée ae la chambre de détente diminue à mesure que la réserve se vide. par suite, au cours du fonctionnement, il se produit dans la   ohambre   de détente, soit une augmentation de plus en plus grande de la pression, si la soupape d'entrée s'outre dans le sens opposé à la pression de distribution;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

  "AUTOMATED COMPENSATION REGULATOR FOR GAS
COMPRESSED"
The invention relates to devices intended to discharge, after having lowered its pressure to a determined value, a gas (such as air) coming from a high pressure reserve (tank, bottle, cylinder, etc.) by example). Such devices called regulators include an expansion chamber interposed between the high pressure reserve and the expanded gas distribution pipe.

   The expansion chamber is fitted with an inlet valve through which it receives the compressed gas from the reserve

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 and this valve is placed under the control of a deformable membrane provided with a suitable return member and subjected on one side to the pressure of the expansion chamber and (the other side to the external pressure. the deformable membrane and the transmission acting on the inlet valve is established with a view to automatically maintaining the pressure prevailing in the expansion chamber at a determined value.

   However, experience has shown that in devices of this type 1a. the difference between the external pressure and the pressure of the expansion chamber does not remain strictly constant. Indeed, while the return force of the diaphragm is invariable (whether it is the specific elasticity of this diaphragm or of an auxiliary spring) the pressure acting on the inlet valve to the expansion chamber decreases as the reserve becomes empty. consequently, during operation, there occurs in the expansion chamber, that is, an increasingly large increase in pressure, if the inlet valve overrides in the direction opposite to the distribution pressure;

   or an increasingly marked decrease in pressure, if the inlet valve opens in the direction of the distribution pressure.

   The object of the preaente invention is a compensating slide intended to maintain the pressure of the expansion chamber at an invariable value until the reserve is exhausted.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   This device comprises an additional membrane subjected on one side to the distribution pressure of the expanded gas and on the other side to the external pressure, this additional membrane also being able to come into contact, on the one hand with a spring plunger and on the other side. 'on the other hand with the inlet valve of the expansion chamber, so that the force exerted by this spring on said valve is added to that of the distribution pressure and counterbalances the reduction undergone by this pressure.

   In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a compensated regulator according to the invention.

   Fig. 2 is a section showing on an enlarged scale the compensating device.

   Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the compensated regulator.

   The device shown in FIG. 1 oomprend a pipe 1 which receives the gas from a compressed gas cylinder (not shown) and this pipe is connected by a connector 2 with a capacity 3 provided in a block 4 and constituting the antechamber of the regulator.

   Above the block 4 is the expansion chamber 5 surmounted by a membrane 6 comprising a rigid central part and a flexible annular edge.

  This membrane, mounted in a housing 7, communicates with the outside through openings 8 and it is, on the other hand, connected to a lever 11 pivoting on a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   support 12 and provided with an adjustable return return 13. A lever 14 pivoting on the support 12 and a button August 15 interposed between the lever 11 and the valve 16 which controls an oanal 20 -The magnet communicating the antechamber 3 and the expansion chamber 5. The valve 16 opens in the opposite direction ue the action exerted on it by the distribution oression.

   The expansion chamber 5 communicates via a tube 17 with a pipe 18 provided with a valve 22 which allows the flow of expanded gas to be opened and closed as desired.

   According to the invention, the pressure reducer thus formed is provided with a compensating device intended to keep the resistance to opening of the valve 16 constant despite the variations in the distribution pressure prevailing in the anteroom 3.

   The compensating device visible in Fig. 2 comprises in the anteroom 3 an elastic membrane 25 fixed on its edge by means of a threaded washer 26 and placed so as to act on the rod 27 of the valve 16. The free surface of the membrane 25 is equivalent to the section valve closing 16.

   This membrane 25 is in contact with a pusher 28 on which acts a spring 29 contained in a cavity 32. The tension of the spring 29 is adjusted by means of the cover 31 screwed onto a threaded surface of the block 4.

   The operation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 and 2 is as follows:
The high pressure gas supplied by the cylinder

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 the antechamber 3 reaches the expansion chamber 5 via the valve 16 which is automatically controlled so as to maintain in the enclosure formed by the chamber 5 and the tube 17 and the pipe 18, a determined pressure. The outlet valve 22 is opened according to the requirements for the use of expanded gas.

   The automatic control of the valve 16 is ensured by the membrane 6 subjected on one of its faces to the external pressure and on the other face to the pressure of the expansion chamber 5. The valve closes when the action produced on the valve. pusher 15 by the memgrane 6 and the spring 13 supposed to outweigh the resistance opposed to opening. The valve 16 is biased in the closing direction by the high pressure prevailing in the anteroom 3.

   This pressure decreases as the compressed gas cylinder empties and it is to counterbalance the reduction in resistance thus produced that the valve 16 is added to the compensating device which is the subject of the invention.
It will be assumed, for example, that the regulator is connected to a cylinder of compressed air at 200 Kg / em2 and that under the initial pressure, the resistance to opening of the valve 16 is 9 Kg. (Resistance proportional to the section of the channel 20 assumed for example equal to 4.5 mm2).

   When the high pressure air supply is closed, the valve 16 is in equilibrium, being moved away from its seat under the effect of the membrane 6 and the spring 13 and being, on the other hand, supported by the spring 29

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 with a force of 9 kg. which acts on this valve via the pusher 28 and the membrane 25.

   If the air compressed at 200 kg / cm2 is brought into the antechamber 3, the valve 16 closes as soon as the pressure in the chamber b reaches the determined value of use, for example 1,100 gr / om2. The membrane 25 undergoes on its internal free surface a thrust of 9 kg. Which it transmits to the spring 29, so as to compress it. The regulator then operates as if it did not have a compensating device.

   As the air coming from the bottle and having passed through the chamber 5, 17 and the pipe 18 is used downstream of the tap 22, the pressure drops in this bottle and consequently in the anteroom 3 and it The same is true of the thrust exerted on the inner face of the membrane 25. Consequently, the static foree of the spring 29 which was previously annihilated, is now gradually released to the appropriate extent.

   For example, when the pressure in the bottle has fallen to a quarter of the initial value, drinks at 50 kg / cm2, the non-expanded air exerts on the valve 16 a thrust of 2 kg, 250. The membrane 2b whose free surface has the same diameter as the closing section of the valve 16, also receives a thrust of 2Kg, 250 directed in the opposite direction to the thrust of 9 Kg. exerted by the spring 29. The valve 16 therefore undergoes a pressure equal to the difference between two efforts, or 9Kg. 2Kg, 250 i.e. 6Kg, 750. The total thrust exerted on the valve 16 is therefore always 9 kg.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   It can thus be seen that despite the variations in the inlet pressure to the regulator, the valve 16 always opens for the same value of the pressure prevailing in the chamber 5, so that this latter pressure remains invariable.

   In the device of FIG. 3, the valve 34 giving access to the expansion chamber 35 opens in the direction of the pressure due to the compressed gas.

   In this figure, we see at 36 the thread into which the gas supply pipe is screwed, connected to the supply bottle. The gas arrives through channel 37 to capacity 38 which constitutes the anteroom of the regulator. The valve 34 carries an extension 39 in contact with a lever 41 pivoting at 42 and provided with a return spring 43 adjusted by means of a screw 44.

   The lever 41 is connected by a rod 45 to a membrane 46 held by the perforated cover 47 of the housing 48, so that this membrane is subjected on one side to the external pressure and on the other side to the pressure of the chamber. of relaxation.

  A tubing 49 makes it possible to connect the use pipe.

   The compensating device comprises a membrane 51 clamped around its periphery by a washer 52 and touching at its center a pusher 53 itself subjected to the action of a spring 54 which bears on the cover 55 of the cavity 56. The free surface of the membrane 51 has the same diameter as the closing surface of the valve 34.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

   The spring 54: adds its action to that of the compressed gas arriving in the antechamber 38 so that despite the decrease in the inlet pressure to the regulator, the thrust exerted on the valve 3 in the opening direction remains constant .

   The compensating device which is the object of the invention can be applied in all the circumstances where it is necessary to use, after having lowered its pressure to a determined value, an expanded gas coming from a high pressure reserve. . This device is particularly suitable for cases of a constant flow (torch, inhaler, etc.

   ) a variable flow rate at will (supplying an internal combustion engine for example) an intermittent and regular flow rate (automatic filling of a container, supply of a breathing apparatus, etc.)
In any case, as the inlet pressure to the regulator drops, the device according to the invention intervenes to keep the pressure constant in the expansion chamber, and avoids the operating problems which generally occur in apparatus ordinarily employed.

   The invention should not moreover be considered as being limited to the devices referred to above and it is just that the various elements constituting these devices can be replaced by equivalent elements.
