Description

     'Un purgeur qui'fonctionne normalement doit laisser sortir toute l'eau condensée'qui s'écoule vers lui par gravité et retenir la vapeur lorsque l'eau cesse d'arriver. Le purgeur en bon état de fonctionnement,'retenant toute,la vapeur vive, ne doit donc produire à l'amont'aucune baisse de pression; il ne provoque donc aucun appel d'eau ou devapeur et ne reçoit que l' eau condensée qui peut s'écouler vers lui en vertu de, son propre

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

     D"après les explications données au début de ce mémoi-

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   "Control device serving as a filter for condensed water traps."
The present invention relates to an apparatus intended to be placed at the inlet of automatic condensed water trap with floats, with the aim, on the one hand, of making it possible to monitor their operation and, on the other hand, to retain solid particles entrained by the water and liable to interfere with the proper functioning of the traps.

     'A properly functioning trap should let out any condensed water' flowing towards it by gravity and hold back the steam when the water stops flowing. The trap in good working order, retaining all the live steam, must therefore produce no drop in pressure upstream; it therefore does not cause any call for water or steam and receives only the condensed water which can flow towards it by virtue of, its own.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 weight following the natural slope of the upstream piping.

   To make it possible to check at any time that the trap actually functions under the above conditions, the invention consists in placing at the inlet of the trap a receptacle with two compartments forming communicating vessels through which the condensed water flows towards the trap. . This container is arranged so that the movements of the water level in the upstream compartment can be observed at all times, through ice for example.

   If the trap operates normally, the water remains at the same level in both compartments; this level is that of the outlet of the downstream compartment of the receptacle in the trap.

  On the other hand, if the trap leaks and lets steam pass after all the condensed water has been expelled, the drop in pressure in the trap causes a difference in level between the two compartments; the water level drops in the upstream compartment and falls below the outlet of the downstream compartment in the trap, i.e. below a line easy to identify by construction even. If the trap does not work or functions poorly, i.e. if it does not open when its float reaches a determined level or if its flow rate is insufficient, water accumulates in the trap and the completely fills as well as the control device placed at its entrance. The rise of the water level in the inlet compartment of the apparatus will be immediately visible and will warn the observer.

   The upstream compartment of the apparatus is provided at its lower part with a strainer or the like which water is forced to pass through before entering the downstream compartment to reach the trap. The device therefore filters the water at the same time as the trap monitoring.

   The appended drawing represents an exemplary embodiment, the description of which will make the invention clearly understood and its characteristics to emerge.

   The fig..l is a vertical section of the device along line 1-1 of fig. 2.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1.

   Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the apparatus mounted on the trap. '
The apparatus to be placed at the inlet of the trap P is a pot 1. closed at its upper part by a cover 2 provided with a vertical baffle 3 which divides the pot into two compartments up to a certain distance from the bottom; 4 is the upstream compartment, 5 is the downstream compartment. These two compartments form the two communicating vessels. The condensed water enters the device through la'tubulure 4a; it and), exits through the tube 5a -located in the extension of the previous one. The pipe 5a is assembled directly, by a flange, on the inlet pipe of the trap; the latter is therefore only the immediate extension of the tubing 5a (fig. 3).

   The baffle 3 is slightly moved downstream with respect to the vertical axis of 1-device so as to fully release a vertical slot .6 formed in the body of the pot exactly opposite this axis, and intended observing the water level in the upstream compartment. The observation is made through the glass 7 which is / for example a water level glass of the reflection type used in the water levels of steam boilers. It is fixed to the body 1 of the pot by means of the clamping block 8 and the bolts 9. The middle of the height of the slot 6 is located just in the common axis of the inlet tubes and outlet 4a and 5a of pot 1. The bottom of the slot is at the level of the bottom of the vertical baffle 3.

   Besides, the bottom of the vertical baffle is arranged so as to constitute a kind of funnel connecting to the inlet pipe 4a and leading to a strainer 10 which the water is forced to pass through when it leaves the compartment 4 for go into compartment 5 ..

   Finally 'the pot is fitted at its lower part with a drain plug 11.

     D "after the explanations given at the beginning of this memo

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 re, it is understood that if the level is visible approximately in the middle of the ice, the operation of the trap is normal. If the water level is invisible, it means that the inlet compartment of the appliance is filled with steam and the pressure has dropped abnormally in the trap; there is a steam leak in the trap. If the water occupies the entire height of the ice, the inlet compartment is full of water; the trap is clogged due to faulty operation or insufficient flow or the strainer is clogged.

   It will be noted that, all the internal device being fixed to the cover, it suffices to turn the latter by 180 to reverse the direction of circulation of the water in the apparatus.

   This arrangement has a great practical advantage: it allows the same device fitted with a glass on one side to be used without distinction, without having to change the position of the observer, for traps supplied from left to right or for traps supplied. from right to left. If, for example, the trap to be checked is placed against a wall, the glass can always be placed on the side where it can be seen. An arrow mark traced on the cover will distinguish the direction in which the device operates.

   CLAIMS
1 Device mounted at the inlet of float traps for condensed water in order to monitor their operation, characterized by the fact that it consists of a receptacle through which the condensed water passes and divided into two compartments forming communicating vessels, with, in its wall, a vertical slit offset downstream and closed by a reflective water level glass making it possible to observe the movements of the water level in the compartment upstream, the inlet and outlet pipes being so arranged that, in normal operation, said compartment appears to be half filled with water; that in the event of a steam leak from the trap it appears empty, and that in the event of clogging it appears completely filled.
