<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"in Berlin (Germany). ELECTRIC CAPACITOR OF THE PASS-THROUGH CAPACITOR TYPE.
International Convention: German patent application S.155.27 VIII c / 21 g filed on April 22, 1943 by the Siemens & Halske Aktiengesellschaft Company of which the applicant is the beneficiary.
By the term "electrical feed-through capacitors" is meant the capacitors which form, with a section of conductor passing through them, a constructive unit, this section of conductor being in weakly inductive connection with an armature of the capacitor and being intended for be inserted in a separate circuit carrying current. Usually, the capacity is formed in the form of a wound hollow body, on the front faces of which the reinforcing sheets of different polarities are taken out and connected to one another. The section of pipe-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tor is directed along the axis of the winding and is directly connected with a frame whose elements are joined together by the end faces.
As already described elsewhere, in the impedance curve derived from such capacitors, resonance peaks occur which are normally found in the frequency band between 5 and 20 megacycles and cause a decrease in the antiparasitic action in the band considered. However, it has been found that an improvement concerning the derived impedance curve can be obtained by damping the magnetic field which is established around the lead-through conductor. By this method, the resonant rises in the derived impedance curve are also damped and, for proper constitution of the wound body, also cause displacement of the resonances.
In this regard, it has already been proposed, moreover, to place the feed-through conductor not in the cavity of a wound body, but eccentrically with respect to the axis of the winding, because then the magnetic lines of force of a feed-through have more than one reinforcement thickness and by. following are more strongly amortized. In particular, this proposal has been made with regard to so-called metallized paper capacitors or the like, in which the reinforcement consists of a very thin layer metallization of the dielectric material.
Although the object of the proposal is to achieve the envisaged improvement in a simple manner, it is linked, however, to a certain drawback, since in particular the feed-through conductor exits eccentrically from the end faces of the capacitor housing, and independently of an increase the difficulty of maintaining the parts necessary for the construction in the correct position, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
densifier takes on an unsightly appearance.
The invention, which retains the fundamental idea of damping the field of magnetic forces by the reinforcing sheets, then proposes, in such capacitors where the body of the capacitor consists of one or more wound elements, to arrange the conductor which passes through the capacitor, outside of any wound element, but nevertheless to pass the through conductor concentrically to the body of the capacitor, by making this body by deformation and / or by arranging, if necessary, several individual wound elements .
By the solution indicated, a product is therefore obtained which, on the outside, does not differ from one of the usual feed-through capacitors in which the feed-through conductor passes through the body of the capacitor along its axis. But at the same time, thanks to the particular constitution, one obtains a maximum value of the damping of the magnetic field and consequently of the damping of the resonance peaks, a particularly simple method of manufacture, even compared to the usual execution feed-through capacitors, thus being obtained in the individual embodiments.
The other explanations will be given using the drawing.
On this, in FIG. 1, we denote by a the feed-through conductor, by b the cylindrical housing. The condenser body c is then, unlike the designs used hitherto, not spirally wound around the bushing conductor a, but carried out without it with a large internal diameter, then flattened by compression and then put in a form which allows it, as the drawing clearly shows, to surround the bushing conductor concentrically.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The connection between the feed-through conductor a and one of the reinforcements protruding from the end faces of the wound body c is made in a way that has long been tested, for example by welding, as is the reinforcement coming out from the side of the other the front face is connected in a known manner coaxially to the housing b.
However, it is not necessary to deform the body of the capacitor in a circular section as shown in figure 1. Instead, one can also adopt an execution such as that shown in figure 2. In this, the body d of the capacitor is also made as a flattened winding and folded around the flat lead-through conductor e, so that the through-conductor e extends along the axis passing through the center of gravity of the capacitor and that the body of the capacitor d has a rectangular section, so that the case f can likewise be of rectangular execution.
As the realization of the capacitor body in the form of a flat winding and the consequent deformation for the encapsulation of the lead-through conductor can, if necessary, cause difficulties, it is, without adversely affecting the intended effect, particularly advantageous to operate the construction as shown in Fig. 3. In this case, the capacitor body is formed by assembling several individual winding elements which, in the sense of a favorable use of space, are advantageously established all in the form of flat wound bodies, although the use of round rolled bodies is not excluded.
Figure 3 uses, for the realization of the capacitor body with the desired capacity, two individual winding elements ± and h. These are introduced tight one
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
on the other by their wide faces and contiguously in the case i and enclose between them the flat feedthrough conductor k.
In this case, the equal front faces of g and h are considered as a single front face grouped together of a single winding and the reinforcing edges protruding at this point are connected together and to the feed-through conductor as well as to the housing. The last mentioned embodiment also has, compared to the usual pass-through capacitors with a circular section, the advantage in principle that the use of space is, in general, more favorable because of the shape of the rectangular section.
In all of the embodiments shown, the magnetic lines of force concentrically directed around the lead-through conductor are forced to pass through substantially more than one thickness of reinforcement, causing strong damping. As already mentioned, this is of particular importance for those capacitors, the armatures of which consist of very thin metal layers, in which therefore a single armature thickness exerts only a damping action. very reduced. In these capacitors, thanks to the multiplicity of reinforcement layers to pass through, it is nevertheless possible to obtain sufficient damping.
However, for the case where -, in particular in small capacities in which there is therefore only a reduced number of turns., The desired damping does not exist in full, it is also possible, as an additional measure, to which in conventional feed-through capacitors is not possible without special provisions, provide metal damping linings which increase the intended effect: Such metal linings

are, in all the examples shown, designated by m.
