   Dans le cas des Figs. 13 et 14 qui concernent une poutre armée sur deux appuis mise en précontrainte par déplacement transversal de deux points du tirant, on a choisi ce déplacement tel que le tirant sorte légèrement du contour compris entre les fibres supérieures et inférieures de la membrure comprimée. Sur ces figures les indices 1 à 6 ont les mêmes significations que sur les figures précédentes. 9 représente des pièces de calage destinées à maintenir les tirants dans la position leur assignée par la mise en tension.   ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF A REQUEST
OF PATENT FOR THE INVENTION Prestressed beams, methods and apparatus for their execution.

   The present invention relates to beams composed of a compression-resistant chord and a tensile-resistant tie rod. Its purpose is to improve the state of stress of the materials used in these beams and to obtain beams, the chord of which is stressed mainly by compression and of which the tie rod, lying essentially between the lower fiber and the upper fiber. of the chord, is put in tension without having to exert traction at its ends.

   The execution of beams in which the tie rod, forming entered, is subjected to tensile stress, has been known for a long time. It is also known to pre-stress either straight or arched beams by means of tie-rods and to obtain in these beams any desired distribution of tension, by judiciously choosing the position of the tie-rod and by exerting suitable traction. In this one. However, the methods used until now for this purpose generally included the application of traction to the ends of the tie rod, which necessitai.t the intervention of a rather complicated apparatus.

   To produce the tensioning of steel wires, it has also been proposed to deflect a point thereof to form a broken line but, with a view to prestressing the concrete, this deflection was carried out before the concrete was poured. In addition, this process has not hitherto made it possible to construct beams resistant to bending because the positions given to the wires thus deflected did not meet the conditions required to produce suitable stresses in the constructed elements.

   According to the present invention, the straight and tensionless tie rod is first anchored by its ends to the chord, then the beam is prestressed by applying at one or more intermediate points of the tie rod a force which produces a transverse displacement of this or from these points towards the fiber of the chord which is exposed to tension, and one or these points of the tie-rod are fixed with respect to the chord. To obtain any desired tension distribution, going as far as the elimination of any tensile tension in the chord, the transverse displacement of the intermediate point (s) of the tie-rod is given an amplitude such that the tie-rod comes out of the central core. of the member in the zone of maximum moments.

   The beam according to the invention in practice has the general shape of a reinforced beam, the entry of which remains substantially between the upper and lower fibers of the beam.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 conpressed. The tensions this traction created in the tie rod by its elongation in turn generate qans the member conprin @ e this beam, @ 'on the one hand a compound bending, the other hand shearing forces.

   The bending thus generated, being added to the bending of the beam under the effect of the external stresses, makes it possible to obtain in the chord compressed in such a way as to limit these tensile stresses which one wishes to impose on materials used in this frame; similarly, the shearing forces generated are in this direction opposite to those resulting from external stresses and may be sufficient to reduce the latter to negligible values, even when a material with poor tensile strength is used for the compressed member.

   To make the invention fully understood, some embodiments will be written, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIGS. 1 to 14 represent elevational views of beams fitted with one or more tie rods under different prestressing conditions. Figs. 1, 3, 5, 7, 9., II and 13 represent the states of the front beams and Figs.

  2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 1 and 14 after they have been prestressed.

   The Pigs. 15 to 20 are views of a beam whose chord is made up of independent elements.

   Figs. 21 to 24 show some means of carrying out the prestressing in accordance with the invention, and
Figs. 25 to 28 represent an improved apparatus for putting under prestressing.

   In these figures, 1 denotes the compressed chord of the beam cont the limits of the central core are indicated by the dotted lines the; 2 is the tie rod, 5 the location of the anchoring device, 4 the bottom fiber of the compressed beam chord, 5 its top fiber, 6 its neutral fiber. In 7 (Fig.

  1) indicates the reserved seat in the thickness of the frame for the subsequent introduction of the tie rod fixing pin.

  A force is applied to the midpoint A of the tie rod, in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 1) by means of a jack for example, so that the tie rod flexes and takes the shape shown in Fig.

  2, the point ± being brought to beyond the lower limit of the central core 1 'in the zone of maximum bending moments due to external forces. It is held in this position by the fixing pin 8. This type of beam is particularly suitable when the beam must withstand a load concentrated in its middle.

   Figs. 3 and 4 are views in elevation of a reinforced beam on two supports prestressed by transverse displacement of two points of the tie rod. Two fixing pins 8 are provided here. This type of beam is particularly suitable for resisting a substantially uniformly distributed load, the zone of maximum bending moments being greater than in the case of the beam in the figure. The length over which the tie comes out at the central core of the. beam is made larger by the use of two deflection points on it. It can be seen that the direction of the deviation of the tie rod brings it closer to the fiber of the compressed chord which would be extended without the action of the tie rod.

   In this example, as in all the others, it is assumed that the loads applied to the beam act from top to bottom.

   The F'igs. 5 and 6 represent the elevation views of a beam on two supports prestressed by two series of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 tie rods 2 and 2 $ 'of which one 2 is fixed at the ends at 3 and the other 2' at intermediate points 3 'of the beam. Each of the two series of dashes is tensioned by transverse displacement of two points of the tie rod.

   Figs. 7 and 8 likewise show the elevation views of a reinforced beam on two supports put in prestressing by transverse displacement of three points of the tie rod.

   Figures: 9 and 10 relate to the case of a continuous reinforced beam on three supports put in prestressing by transverse displacement of six points of the tie rod.

   Figs. 11 and 12 represent the elevation views, in which for the clarity of the drawing the scale of vertical dimensions has been made different from the scale of horizontal dimensions, of a continuous reinforced beam, on three supports prestressed by two series of tie rods 2, 2 '. The first set of tie rods 2 is anchored to the ends 3 of the beam and tensioned by the displacement of five points of the tie rod. The second series of tie rods 2 ′ is anchored at two intermediate points 3 ′ of the beam and its anchors are adjacent to the lower fiber of the compressed chord of the beam. The tensioning of these tie rods is carried out by the transverse displacement of two points thereof.

   The pins 8 (Fig. 12) fix the tie rods 2 at the points which have undergone the displacements and the pins 8 'fix the tie rods 2' in the same way.

   In the case of Figs. 13 and 14 which relate to a reinforced beam on two supports put in prestressing by transverse displacement of two points of the tie-rod, this displacement was chosen such that the tie-rod exits slightly from the contour between the upper and lower fibers of the compressed member. In these figures the indices 1 to 6 have the same meanings as in the previous figures. 9 shows wedging pieces intended to maintain the tie rods in the position assigned to them by the tensioning. ;
Figures 1 to 14 sufficiently schematize the method of construction of prestressed reinforced beams and the general shapes of the products obtained by this method.

   These figures are not limiting and it is obvious that one can conceive according to the requirements of application a great variety of combinations carrying out reinforced beams on any nemere of supports, by means of any number of tie rods. , moved transversely at any number of points.

   It will be understood that whatever the load conditions to be considered, it is possible, by the use of prestressed reinforced beams in which the tie rod is arranged in a suitable manner, to create in the compressed chord of the beam an internal stress state which s 'opposes the external stresses, in such a way that at each point of the compressed chord one can impose any limitation of the tensile stresses compatible with the material of which this chord will be made.

   As has been said, this type of beam is particularly suitable not only for ensuring perfect bending resistance but also, thanks to the arrangement of the tie rods raised in the area of the supports, for combating the tensions introduced into the material. by shearing effort.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Any material can be used for the compressed chord of the beam, as long as it resists compression. Concrete or any other agglomerates can be used advantageously, but other materials such as stones or even metals, steel included, can also be used.

   Any material having sufficient tensile strength and a modulus of elasticity such that the elongations caused by the transverse displacements develop therein tensions compatible with the requirements of the calculation of the compressed member can be used for the tie rods.

   An advantage of the new prestressed reinforced beams lies in the fact that the tie rods can always be anchored in a definitive way before they are put under tension. This anchoring can be achieved in any suitable manner, for example by means of distribution plates with nuts or keys, or by adhesion of the tie rod to the material constituting the compressed chord of the beam, this adhesion possibly being increased by modules provided at the ends. tie rods.

   In the beams according to the invention, the compressed member does not necessarily have to be made in one piece, but it can advantageously be made up of juxtaposed elements without connection between them, since the prestressing produced by the reinforced beam can be chosen such that no tensile stress appears in the compressed rib of the poptre. An example of this kind of construction will be described below with reference to Figs. 15 to 20.

   Fig. 15 shows by way of example the partial elevation of a beam on two supports executed in elements made in advance juxtaposed without connection between them and put in prestressing by two series of tie rods 2, 2 ', some 2 of which are anchored to end blocks 10 and the other 2 'to intermediate blocks 11 of the beam.

   Figs. 16 and 17 respectively show the enlarged elevations of blocks 10 and 11 of FIG. 15, and Figs. 18 and 19 are respectively cross sections along the lines X-X and Y-Y of Figs. 16 and 17. FIG. 20 shows a cross section through a block 12 made of two pieces.

   In Figs. 15 to 20 denote by 10 the end block against which abuts the anchoring device of the tie rod 2 represented by a cross member 13 in which is embedded the end of the tie rod. The end of the tie rod 2 'is likewise embedded in a cross member 14 which rests in an intermediate block 11. The tie rods 2 and 2', shown here after being put under tension, each consist of eight steel wires arranged in two groups of four on either side of the Åaame of the compressed frame and held by pins 8. To facilitate the installation of the tie rods, one of the intermediate blocks, designated by 12, is made up of two pieces 15 and 16 which are put in place before the tensioning of the tie rods and after all the blocks constituting the compressed chord of the beam have been placed between the wires constituting the tie rods.

   Cement mortar joints 17 are provided between the consecutive blocks as well as between the blocks 10 and 11 and the anchoring devices which they support.

   The transverse displacement of the tie-rod points can be produced by any suitable apparatus such as mechanical or hydraulic vedas or lever devices, these devices pre-

 resting on the compressed chord of the beam during the transverse displacement of the tie rod. The fixing of the tie rods after their displacement will be done either by means of crossing pins and resting on the web of the compressed member, or by means of connecting rods resting on appendages with which the compressed member of the reinforced beam is fitted.

   Figs. 21 and 22 respectively show a partial longitudinal view and a transverse section of a prestressed reinforced beam, in which the fixing of the tie rod consisting of wires 2 is carried out by means of a pin. In these figures 18 denotes the web, 19 the upper flange and 20 the lower flange of the compressed chord, 7 the housing of the fixing pin and 8 the fixing pin.

   Figs. 23 and 24 are respectively a partial longitudinal view and a cross section of a prestressed reinforced beam, in which the tie rod is fixed by means of a connecting rod. In these figures the indices 10 to 13 have the same meanings as in Figures 15 to 16; 21 shows the fixing rod which bears on a stop appendage 22 provided on;! 'Wing 19 of the compressed member.

   As can be seen in FIGS. 15 to 24, the tie rods still being outside the compressed chord, are therefore accessible and visitable after they have been tensioned. They can be easily protected against atmospheric agents, for example by a simple coating mortar which simultaneously coats the tie-rod fastening devices, whether they are pins or connecting rods.

   Figures 25, 26, 27 and 28 respectively represent the schematic diagram, section AB, section CD and section EF of the device for positioning and tensioning the tie rods of a prestressed reinforced beam such as that shown in the figures. Figs.

  15 to 20.

   In these figures, 1 designates the compressed chord of the beam, 23 represents a portal frame which transfers the tensioning force of the tie rods 2 on distribution parts 24 by means of stops 25. A jack 26 for setting tension is interposed between the gantry frame and an auxiliary frame 27 which slides in the gantry frame 23 The auxiliary frame 27 receiving the force of the vertn 26 comes up against two slides 28 each provided with a tongue 29 whose end rests on the elements of the tie rod 2 that must be tightened. As shown in figs.

  26 and 27, the tongue 29 can slide horizontally between stop pieces 30 integral with the slides 28. In their vertical movements, the slides 28 are guided by the parts 31 between the uprights 32 which constitute the framework of the gantry frame 23 likewise the auxiliary frame 27 is guided between the uprights 32 by the parts 33, identical to the parts 31 34 designates return springs.

   This system makes it possible to exert on the tie rods a force from the top to the bottom by using, to achieve the necessary stop, simultaneously the own weight of the entire compressed member of the beam and the vertical reaction transmitted to the distribution parts 24 by the tensioning of the tie rods.

   It is obvious that the construction details shown in Figures 26 to 28 are not limiting and that modifications can be made. It is also obvious that the setting up and in tension of the tie rods can be done by devices other than that described in this memorandum, for example by resting on sufficiently heavy blocks placed outside the beams to be constructed.

   It must be understood that the examples given above are in no way limiting either as regards the possibilities of applying the beams forming the subject of the invention to shapes, arrangements or combinations not described, all the examples given above with the sole aim of facilitating an understanding of the forms and methods of the invention.
