<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DESCRIPTION MEMORY filed in support of a PATENT OF INVENTION application Progressive speed variator.
The present invention relates to a progressive speed variator comprising either an endless transmission member with trapezoidal section, working in two extensible groove pulleys, a drive and a receiver, or two transmission members placed in series, working in four Extendable groove pulleys, a drive, a receiver, and two intermediates each pulley comprising an axially movable conical plate and an axially fixed c8nic plate, while the two end pulleys, the drive and the receiver are placed respectively on a motor shaft and a receiving shaft, and that the two intermediate pulleys, whose movable plates are axially connected to one another, are placed on an intermediate shaft.
It is characterized in that in order to vary the transmission ratio, immediately during operation, or automatically when switching on, it is never necessarily moved.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that the axially movable conical plate of one of the two end pulleys, while the movable plate of the other end pulley and those of the intermediate pulleys are automatically adjusted.
To this end, a control member with imperative axial displacement, such as a screw, transmits directly in one direction, both when stationary and in operation, its axial displacement to the movable plate of one of the end pulleys, to the using two axial stops, respectively integral with the control member and the movable plate, and, in the other direction, transmits, either immediately during operation or automatically upon switching on, its axial displacement at said plate by means of a spring compressed between this plate and the control member.
In addition, a spring constantly tends to close the end pulley, the movable plate of which is not necessarily controlled, and therefore ensures at any time, in any position, and, excluding any other mechanism, the tension. necessary for transmission components
This device of a very simple design makes it possible to carry out both stopping and running, the maneuver causing the variation of the transmission ratio, it also makes it possible to automatically take up the differences in length due to the parallel position or oblique of the strands of the transmission organs and the elongation of these organs.
In order to facilitate the maneuver causing the variation of the transmission ratio, a spring constantly tends to close the end pulley, the movable plate of which is imperatively controlled, and therefore balances at all times the reaction caused on this plate, by the spring which constantly tends to close the other end pulley.
In order to transmit higher power, the organs

transmission and the pulleys with extensible groove are doubled or multiplied in a rational manner.
Depending on the variation ratio to be obtained, the variator has a single transmission with a trapezoidal section or two transmissions placed in series.
Figures 1 and 2 show a yariator comprising two transmission members placed in series and four pulleys with extendable groove, with device causing the variation of the transmission ratio according to the invention.
The shaft 1 carries an extendable groove pulley, one of the conical plates 2 of which is wedged on this shaft, while the other conical plate 3 can move axially, but follows the rotation of the plate 2 using the gougon 4. The sleeve of the plate 3 carries another plate 5 which is axially integral with it, but which does not follow its rotation. A spring 6 is compressed between the plate 5 and the frame 7. the plate 5 also carries an axial stop 8. A screw plate 10 supported by a bearing 11 of the frame 7, in which it can move axially but not in rotation, also carries an axial stop 9. A spring 12 compressed between the plate 5 and the screw plate 10, maintains the axial stops 8 and 9 in contact.
A handwheel 3 is screwed onto the socket of the screw plate 10, and is held in contact with the bearing 11 using the axial stops 14 and 15.
The shaft 16 carries an extensible groove pulley, one of the c8nic plates 17 of which is wedged on this shaft 16 while the other conical plate 18 can move axially but follows the rotation of the plate 17 using the gougon 19. A spring 20 compressed between the conical plate 18 and a plate 21 wedged on the shaft 16, continuously tends to push the c8nic plate 18 towards the conical plate 17. This spring 20 has a force equal to that of the spring 6 of the arbrel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The intermediate shaft 22 carries two grooved pulleys formed by the conical plates 23- 24 - 25 - 26, of which the plates 24 and 25 are integral and wedged on the shaft 22. The conical plates 23 and 26 are made integral with the 'using studs 27, but can move axially on shaft 22; they are made integral with the rotation of the plates 24 and 25 using the same pins 27.
An endless transmission member 28 of trapezoidal section transmits the rotation of the motor shaft 16 to the intermediate shaft 22, and another endless transmission member 29 of trapezoidal section transmits the rotation of the intermediate shaft 22 to the intermediate shaft 22. receiver shaft 1.
Operation: On and off, the axial displacement of the screw plate 10 is obtained by the rotation of the handwheel. hand 13. In operation, the conical plate 3 moves towards the conical plate 2 at the same time as the screw plate 10, under the combined action of the springs 6 and 12, and it moves away from the conical plate 2 at the same time. than the shelf. screw 10 under the action of the axial stops 8 and 9. When stopped, the conical plate 3 also moves away from the conical plate 2 at the same time as the screw plate 10 under the action of the axial stops 8 and 9; against it cannot move towards the conical plate 2 at the same time as the screw plate 10 as a result of the transmission member 29 which is jammed when stationary between the conical plates 2 and 3.
As a result, the screw plate 19 moves alone by compressing the spring 12 and that the axial stop 9 moves away from the axial stop 8. As soon as the variator is started, the spring 12 which has been compressed when stopped , push back with the help of the spring 6 the conical plate 3 towards the conical plate 2, until the axial stops 8 and 9 come into contact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The constant tension of the transmission members 28 and 29 is ensured by the action of the spring 20 which constantly pushes the c8nic plate 18 towards the conical plate 17. The displacement of the conical plate 3, and the continuous action of the spring 2Q cause the displacement automatic conical plates 18 - 26 - 23.
