 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 1 à 5, la pompe établie conformément aux caractéristiques 1 et 2 ci-dessus est. en outre remarquable en ce que   18-organe   de commande du piston moteur- est un coulisseau qui se déplace dans le dispositif à coincement par billes composé d'un manchon connecté. rigidement au contre'-piston et. d'un coussinet portant les- billes, interposé entre le coulissement et le manchon;

   Dans une seconde forme de réalisation, suivant. les figures 6 à 8, la pompe établie   conformément-   aux caractéristiques 1   et, 7,   ci-dessus est en outre remarquable en ce que l'organe de commands du piston moteur est. un balancier actionné- par un excentrique et pivotant autour d'un axe   fixe,,   tandis que l'organe de- commande du contrepiston est un levier- oscillant autour du   marne   axe et entraîné par friction par le balancier, le mouvement dudit levier étant transmis au contre-piston, par l'intermédiairs d'uns tige guide liée mécaniquement à ce dernier ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

     On sait que le dé 50 est entretoisé, par la tige 49, avec la tête commune 48 qui porte le contre-piston 23 et qui vient buter, à la fin de la course descendante, qui correspond à la course d'aspiration, contre le fond P6 de l'élément pl.

     1*'importance des déplacements alternatifs de la tige de réglage 49 est déterminée par la distance comprise entre le fond P6 des éléments et le niveau que l'on a donné aux plong/aurs 54.

  DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of an INVENTION PATENT APPLICATION Mr. Emile P I Q U E R E Z Pompe à. variable flow rate and multiple pump device, particularly applicable to centralized lubrication ...

  Patent application filed in. France August 10, 1944.

   The present invention relates to a variable flow pump and a multiple pump apparatus particularly applicable to centralized lubrication.

   We already know. lubricant pumps to. reciprocating pistons of the type in which the contents. of the cylinder, or more precisely the volume of lubricant to be ejected towards point at. lubricate, is compressed between a mechanically controlled engine piston and a counter-piston control the output of the cylinder, said pistas being adapted to leave no play between them when they are brought into contact and the volume of lubricant to be ejected forming between- them a rigid connection during the ejection stroke.

   In some of the pumps of this type, the piston or member opposite the driving piston is exposed to the pressure of the driving piston at one end and to atmospheric pressure or to a pressure lower than. the other extremity.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   In diantre s pumps of the marna typa, the reciprocating movements of the two associated pistons are carried out ... against springs working at. the compression.

   All of these pumps have drawbacks. In the former, there is a tendency to delay the return movement of the opposite piston and consequently risks ejecting only a part of the theoretical volume; while in the seconds the operation depends on the springs used,
One of the aims of the invention is to provide a pump which does not have the drawbacks indicated above and in which the operation does not run the risk of being hampered either by pressure differences or by the state of the springs.

   Another object of the invention is the production of an apparatus using ,, in particular for the application to centralized lubrication a plurality of pumps in accordance with the invention; said pumps being disposed radially. or juxtaposed against each other, so that the capacity of each of them can be easily regulated individually and so that they can eject successively or simultaneously, by the action of a single command, the quantity of lubricant determined.

   The variable flow pump according to the invention of the type in which the volume expelled at each displacement is limited between a driving piston and a counter-piston which, at the end of the delivery stroke, is supported on a fixed stop and, at the end of the suction stroke, comes to bear on an adjustable stop whose position conditions the volume which is provided between the two conjugated pistons is particularly remarkable in that the counter-piston is actuated during the suction course by a mechanical means kinematically linked, during at least one ffaction of the suction stroke, to the control mechanism of the motor piston,
The variable flow pump according to the invention is still remarkable,

   in that the kinematic connection between the counter .. piston and the driving piston control mechanism is achieved by a wedging device, by balls (fig.l to 5) or a friction device (fig.6 to. 8) ,
In a first embodiment according to the figures

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 1 to 5, the pump established in accordance with characteristics 1 and 2 above is. further noteworthy in that 18-motor piston actuator- is a slide which moves in the ball wedging device consisting of a connected sleeve. rigidly against the piston and. a bearing bearing les- balls, interposed between the sliding and the sleeve;

   an adjustable stops being placed in the path of the pad to neutralize the effects of the post jamming device. a determined fraction of the suction stroke.

   In a second embodiment, following. Figures 6 to 8, the pump established in accordance- features 1 and 7, above is further remarkable in that the actuator piston is. a balance actuated by an eccentric and pivoting around a fixed axis, while the control member of the counterpiston is a lever- oscillating around the axis and driven by friction by the balance, the movement of said lever being transmitted against the piston, by means of a guide rod mechanically linked to the latter;

   stops being arranged to limit the stroke of said rod, one fixed limiting the stroke during the ejection time and the other movable limiting the suction stroke.

   The multiple pump apparatus according to the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 5 is more remarkable in that the different pumps are arranged radially and controlled by the same eccentric attacking the fingers carried by them. driving pistons control slides; said eccentric being driven, for example by means of a freewheel mechanism of a type known per se, depending on small-amplitude pendular reciprocating movements of an eccentric control.

   The device at. multiple pumps according to the execution form of figs.6 to 8 is still remarkable in that each balance actuates two pumps and that several elements thus formed are juxtaposed to each other ,. the eccentrics actuating the balances being wedged on a: common shaft.

   Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description. which will follow with reference to the accompanying drawings. which represent ,,, to. as examples ,. two forms of realization of devices 3 multiple pumps.

   In the drawing:
The fig.l shows, right side ,, a half-front view and, left side ,, a half-view from behind of a device with twelve pumps, according to a first embodiment.

   Fig.2 is a half-view of the apparatus shown in Fig.1, cover removed showing the radial arrangement of the pumps and the general control.

   Fig.3 is a partial sectional view. on a larger scale compared to figs.l and 2, made by one of the pumps, along line III-III of fig.2.

   Fig.4 is a partial view in horizontal section taken along the line IV-IV of fig.3.

   Fig. 5 is. a partial view in horizontal section taken along the line V-V of fig. 3,
FIG. 6 is a section through an element with two pumps according to a second embodiment.

   Fig. 7 is a section taken by the line VII-VII of fig. 6.

   Fig.8 is a horizontal section passing through the axis of the control beams.

   In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 5, the twelve P-P pumps are disposed radially inside a housing 1 closed by a cover 2.

   The various P pumps are driven by a single control comprising. an eccentric 3 in the annular groove 4 of which rollers 5 roll on tools 6 integral with the slide to the 7 directly controlling the reciprocating movements of the motor pistons 8 of the pumps P.

   The eccentric 3 carries pins 9 arranged symmetrically and rotating in bearings 10 mounted respectively in bosses 11 and 12 of the housing 1 and of the cover 2, The eccentric 3 also has an annular sleeve 41 on the periphery of which a control mechanism acts. freewheel composed of two elements 13-14, one of these ensuring the drive in one direction, while the other opposes the return in the opposite direction.

   The freewheel mechanism 13-14f has radial levers 15 extending towards the periphery of the apparatus and terminating in

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 form of forks 16 between the branches of which act eccentrics 17 which impart to the levers 16 the controlling pendular reciprocating movements. the freewheel mechanism 13-14.

   In each. pump p (see more particularly FIG. 3) the slide 7 has from the center to the periphery of the device; a square section part 7a which is guided in a housing of the same section provided in a block 18 fixed inside the housing 1 and closed by a plate 19, and a round section part 7b sliding inside a pad. 20 itself disposed inside a sleeve 21 secured by a toothing 22. with the counter piston 23 x servo-controlled, sometimes, as will be described later, by the command of the motor piston and guided like this lever in block 18.

   The slide at 7 is secured to the motor piston 8 by toothing 24.

   Block 18 to. the interior of which are guided, as shown. previously, the slide 7 and the motor pistons 8 and the counterpiston 23 have a cylindrical lateral extension 25 pierced with a channel 26 through which the oil delivered by the pump p is directed into a connection 27 to which is. connected. one of the pipes 28 (see fig. 1 left side) going to. point to be lubricated, not shown.

   The cover 2 'of the housing 1 is provided with a boss 29 directed inwards and. having a bore in which can rotate an axis 30 bearing, to. his. internal end, an Archimedean spiral shaped adjustment cam 31 located on the path of the pad 20 which is provided with a base 32 constituting a stop.

   For the adjustment of the quantity of lubricant to be ejected, the Archimedean spiral 31 can be displaced angularly from the outside by means of a member 33 which is rotated, for example at. by means of a screwdriver, and which carries an index 34 moving it. around a graduation drawn on a projection 3 & du. cover 2.

   We must understand-: that the downward race. of the bearing 20 is stopped as soon as. that the base 32 of said pad 20 abut against the spiral. 31; that said stroke is determined by the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 position given to said spiral 31 and-, for a maximum stroke of said bush 20 the flow can be zero, while for a minimum stroke the flow can be maximum.

   A stop 23a is provided to limit the upward stroke of the counter-piston 23.

   The number of Archimedes spirals 31 corresponds to the number of departures represented by the twelve pipes 28 and each of the regulated twelve spirals 31 can be / individually, it is possible, for a complete turn of the control eccentric 3, to eject twelve variable volumes of oil to the various points to be lubricated,,
The operation of the device thus produced is as follows:
The various components of one of the pumps P being at. the position shown in fig.3 ,. that is to say, the upward stroke of the motor piston 8 and of the counter-piston 23, the eccentric 3 is at. the position where the annular groove 4 is furthest upwards from the axis 9-9.

   From this position, continuing its rotational movement, the eccentric 3 will drive downwards, directly via the relevant roller 5 and the teeth 24 of the slide. 7, the motor piston 8 and will drive at the same buffs, by its round section 7b and a ring of balls 36 housed in the cells 37, the sleeve 21 secured by the teeth 22, with the counter-piston 23. The servo connection is achieved by wedging the balls 36 against an internal frustoconical surface 38 of the. sleeve 20.

   The servo-control of the counter-piston 23 will continue until the base 32 of the sleeve 20 comes up against the Archimedes spiral 31, at which time its will produce the unsticking of the balls 36 and at that point. From which the counter-piston 23 remaining immobilized at the end of the downward stroke, the slide 7 will only drive the motor piston 8.

   The stroke of the driving piston 8 will continue until the eccentric 3 has completed a rotation of 180; moment at which the driving piston 8 will be at the bottom of its downstroke.

   In this position, the counter-piston 23 must necessarily close the delivery channel 26 and the motor piston 8 must arrive below the level of the suction port 39 which is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 in communication, by a channel 40, with a pipe (not shown) coming from the lubricant source.

   The quantity of oil to be delivered after suction by the engine piston has to. through the suction port 39, will of course be determined by the distance which will be between the top of the suction port 39 and the bottom. of. counter-piston 23.

     This first suction phase is followed by the second phase, that of. pushback, which will occur during the subsequent 180 rotation of eccentric 3.

   Whatever the stroke provided between the base 32. of the bearing 20 and the Archimèda spiral 31 which determines the volume of oil & eject, the second phase will proceed as follows: the counter-piston 23 closes the delivery channel 26 and the motor piston 8 is located below the level of the suction light. ration 39. The driving piston 8 starts. its downward stroke, entered by the teeth 24 of the slide 7 itself controlled by the informed ** diary: of its roller 5, by the eccentric 3 in the groove 4 of which rolls the roller 5. The counter- piston 23 is not pushed back until the moment when the driving piston has blocked the suction port 39.

  From this moment the rigid connection between the two pistons 8 and 23 is made by the column of lubricant trapped between the upper face of the motor piston 8 and the lower face of the aontne-pi & ton 23. As soon as the counter-piston 23 uncovers the delivery channel 26, $ 1 oil is ejected through said channel 26 under the thrust of the engine piston 8. when the new rotation of 180, which corresponds to. this second phase, which is that of repression and ejection, is over, the different organs have returned to. the starting position they occupy in figure 3.

     To the. execution form shown in fig.6 to 8 which shows another device. centralized lubrication system with several pumps, the pumps are carried by pl elements. each P1 element comprises two P-P pumps mounted in tandem. The elements Pl are juxtaposed against each other and assembled like the parquet boards, a new circle P2 being provided for each city in the set. Fixing is carried out at. means of bolts or equivalent components p3.

  The general layout can be compared to. that of a radiator

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 heating which allows to add or remove at will and very easily one or. several elements by simply changing the P3 assembly bolts.

   The entraibement of the different groups of P-P pumps is obtained by a single control, for example a motor shaft 41 (fig.6) which can receive a continuous rotational movement by any suitable transmission, not shown.

   On the shaft 41 are wedged eccentrics 42: in number corresponding to the elements P1 or groups of two pumps, which act between the fork arms 43 integral with the balances 44 mounted, by means of bearings 451, on a common axa 45 of length corresponding to the number of elements Pl used (fig. 8). each balance 44 simultaneously controlled, in opposite directions, the two pumps P-P of an element P1, one of the suction pumps while the conjugate pump discharges. There are two ejections per element for one revolution of the motor shaft 41.

   In each pump p is found, as in the example of fig.

  1 to 5, a driving piston 8 and a counter-piston 23. The two pistons 8 and 23 carrying out their races in the bore of a cylinder 46 drilled in a block 18 and communicating, still as in the first embodiment , with the suction port 39 in communication via channel 40 with the lubricant source and the delivery channel 26 connected to. one of the pipes 28 (see fig.l, left side) going to the point to be lubricated.

   The arrangement of the commando in each element of two pumps is, as shown more particularly in fig. 7, the following
The engine pistons 8 are integral with the dice 47 which are the engine dice; while the counter-pistons 23 are integral with heads 48 in which are also mounted adjustment rods 49 guided in bores of blocks 18 parallel to the cylinders 46.

   The end of each adjustment rod 49 opposite to the common head 48 is fixed to a die 50 disposed symmetrically to the die 47; the two dice 47 and 50 being simply juxtaposed against each other by their backs without any direct drive connection (fig. 7).

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

   In each pump, the counter-piston 23 has no mechanical connection with the driving piston 8; but it is integral, by the intermediary of the common head 48, of the alternative movements of the adjustment rod. 49.

   In the dice. 47 of the motor piston 8 is engaged in an extension circu 'lar 44a of. control arm 44; while in the die 50 of the rod 49 is engaged a circular extension 5la of a lever 51 mounted on the axis 45 of oscillation of the balance 44,
The balance 44 and the lever 51 mounted on the axis 45 by means of the bearing 451 are associated by a friction device which, in principle, plays, in this embodiment, the role of the device. jamming by balls 7b-20-36-38 of the embodiment shown in figs.l to 5.

   In the friction device of each element F1, the central part of the balance is arranged between two discs 52-52 of material to. high coefficient of friction which can rotate around the common axis 45 and on the opposite faces of which are applied, under the pressure of a Belleville washer 53, the levers 51.

   The articulation axis 45 of the friction device, known in itself, is journaled in bosses P4-P4 of the covers P2 of one set of elements P1.

   The rules? individual of each. pumps p is not produced by Archimedean spirals, as in 13, exemplary embodiment of figs.1 to 5; but by means of divers 54 that one can do avahcar more or monk on the way of from 50.

   As shown in the drawing (figs; 6 and 7) the advancement of a plunger 54 towards its die 50 takes place by rotating said plunger 54 by means of a cap 55 riveted to it. The plunger 54 has a threaded part 56 screwing into the thread of a cylindrical part 57 suitably fixed to the upper part P5 of its element P1, the cap 55 has a window 58 and an index 59 and the cylindrical part a graduation 60 giving- the indications of the volumes to be ejected.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

     We know that the die 50 is braced, by the rod 49, with the common head 48 which carries the counter-piston 23 and which abuts, at the end of the downward stroke, which corresponds to the suction stroke, against the bottom P6 of element pl.

     1 * 'importance of the reciprocating movements of the adjustment rod 49 is determined by the distance between the bottom P6 of the elements and the level which has been given to the plungers / aurs 54.

   In the position of the drawing, the pump p (left side, fig. 6) has finished its suction stroke, while the pump p (right side) has finished its discharge stroke.,
From this position, if we consider that the shaft 41 rotates clockwise, the operation will be according to the balance 44 controlling the two pumps will oscillate around the axis 45 and when shaft 41 will have turned by 180, the position of the pumps will be reversed. The left pump will have finished its delivery stroke and the right pump will have finished its suction stroke.

   According to fig. 6 and 7, the bu.tées 54 are lowered to the extreme the stroke of the rod 49 and consequently of the contrs-piston 23 is regulated the weakest and as in the example shown in figs 1 to 5, the ejected volume is the most important. Lea dotted lines indicated at 61 (fig.6) show the highest position to which the cap 55 can be brought, and the stop 54 which is integral with it; at this position of the stop 54, the counter-piston 23 would be in contact with the motor piston 8 and the flow rate would be zero, the index 59 would be located opposite the zero of the graduation (right side fig.6).

   The operation and the adjustment corresponding exactly to the operation and the adjustment of the exemplary embodiment, according to figs. 1 to 5.
