<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

Speaking of this change of position) the movements of the backrest and the seat are controlled by the articulated quadrilateral in the manner described above with regard to fig. 1 and the oscillating movement of the legrest, from its tilted position towards the rear towards an essentially horizontal position, tale, around the pivot 560, is controlled by the controller 562.
The sitting position is limited by a stop 536, mounted on the support 510 for cooperation with the seat @ 14 and the extreme inclined position is limited by a stop 538, mounted on the support., For cooperation with the backrest.
A locking device 540 of the type described above in connection with the locking device 40 of the chair shown in Fig.l, can be employed to hold the movable limbs of the chair in the desired position.
In the chair shown. in fig. 6, 610 indicates the support, comprising the side frames 611, 613, one and the other assembled by means of crossbars 617, 636, 638; the rear end of the seat 614 is articulated to the backrest 612 in 616. The rear end of the lower intermediate member 618 is hinged to. the extension 624 of the backrest at 623, and the upper end of the intermediate face organa 620 ea articulated at the front end of the seat 614, at 626. his 612.
The movable limbs of the chair can be kept in any position. desired., by means of. locking device 640 of the type described above with regard to another exemplary embodiment of the wheelchair.
The chair shown in FIG. 6 also has some additional useful features, thanks to the provision of means allowing the adjustment of: the position of the swivel assembly of the movable members of the chair. According to fig. 6, the seat. 614, lower intermediate member 618, extension 624, and legrest 658 are provided with a series of holes 666. As will readily be understood, the ankles. 622, 623, 626, 634, 664, 660 can be introduced by the occupant of the chair in holes selected from said series of holes 666.
Depending on the choice of holes, the distance between two or more swivel assemblies can be changed with - the result of causing various reciprocal positions of the movable limbs of the chair, then placed in various tilted positidas, for example, if the occupant of the chair prefers for the seat an extreme position less inclined than that indicated in phantom in fig. 6, it can achieve this characteristic by changing the position of one or more pegs, 622, 623, 626.
Furthermore, for an even greater variety of adjustments, the intermediate face member 620 and the guide slide 630 consisting of telescoping elements 679, 681 and 668, 670 respectively which can be held in any position. set position. at. by means of an adjustment screw 683 and 672 respectively, Furthermore, if the occupant of the chair prefers for the extreme reclined position a position of the leg rest different from the calla shown in figure 6, he can achieve this feature by changing the position of one or more pegs 664, 680.
In addition, the control member consists of two elements 675, 676 nested one inside the other, which can be maintained in any adjusted position 1- * with respect to each other, at the same time. by means of an adjusting screw 678. For example, if the length of the telescoping control member 662 is adjusted as shown in. Fig. 6, the occupant of the. wheelchair can bring the leg rest, 658 and seat 614 into alignment when. the movable limbs of the chair are held in the seated position in an inverted position
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
tilted, extending the length of the telescoping control member 662.
Moreover, for example, if in the seated position of the movable limbs of the chair, the length of the telescoping control member is adjusted in such a way that, in said position, the leg rest is in position. Alig @ sment with the seat ,, it is possible to obtain an alignment of the legrest with the seat in an inclined position, by shortening the length of said telescoping control member.
In addition, the provision of an intermediate telescoping face member 620 and a telescoping guide slide 630 and. the series of holes 666 make it possible to change the arrangement of the intermediate front member with respect to that of the guide slide, so that they can both be placed in a transverse arrangement, corresponding, for example, to the transverse arrangement represented at. fig. 4.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in fig.7, 710 generally indicates the support.d'un chair. The said support. comprises two side frames 711 and 713 assembled to each other by means of cross members 717.
The rear end of the seat 714 is articulated at 716 to the backrest 712.
File 712 has an extension 724 directed downwards. The extension 724 of the articulated backrest, the seat 714 and the pair of intermediate members 718, 720 form an articulated quadrilateral mounted in an oscillating manner on the support 710, at 716. In the chair shown in FIG; 7, one end of the guide slide 730 is hinged to a side frame of the support at 732, while the other end of said guide slide is hinged to an intermediate point 754 of the intermediate member. face 720, at a point remote from the pivotable assembly 722 of the two intermediate members 718, 720. The effective length of the face intermediate member between the pivots 726 and 722 is greater than the lower intermediate effective length between them. pins 722 and 723.
The seated position, shown in solid lines, is limited by a stop 736 mounted on a side frame, to cooperate with the extension 724 of the backrest, and the extreme inclined position, shown in phantom, is limited by a stop 738 mounted on a side frame, for cooperation with the backrest. The movable limbs of the chair can be held in any desired position by means of the locking device 740 of the type described above.
