 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  PATENT OF INVENTION in the name of the company known as: "FRENCH ALUMINUM" for Construction element in sheets.

  Priority of a patent application filed in France on November 6, 1944
The present invention, due to Mr. Pierre MIGNY, refers to the construction elements which are constituted by the assembly of three sheets, two of which, forming the faces of the element, include, between them the third, which is shaped so as to hold them at any desired spacing.

   The main feature of the construction element according to the present invention lies in the embodiment of this interlayer sheet.

     We create a series of pyramids with contiguous bases, alternately hollow and protruding, by ensuring that the faces of the hollow pyramids are each in the same plane as the face of the protruding pyramid, passing through the same. basic.

   In general, the bases of all pyramids are the same. In addition, the protruding pyramids having to be adjacent on all their faces with hollow pyramids, it is generally necessary to use, as base polygons, only triangles or quadrilaterals. ,
Each pyramid, whether protruding or hollow, is truncated in the vicinity of its summit, so as to provide there a -small polygonal surface, suitable for assembly with the two outer sheets.

   These can be flat or with developable curvature or not, their spacing can be uniform or not.

   The intermediate sheet can be obtained by rolling, stamping, die-casting, or by any other known industrial manufacturing means, as well as by cutting and folding an initially flat sheet.

   The attached drawing gives a non-limiting example of an embodiment of this type.

   Fig. 1 is a partial perspective view of the element

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 with part of the upper leaf arraohed.

   The f ig. 2 shows the interlayer sheet developed on a plane.

   The f ig. 3 is a side view corresponding to f ig. 1
Fig. 4 is a section along IV-IV of FIG. l.

   In these figures, the references 1 and 2 designate the outer sheets of the element, 3 is the interlayer sheet.

   In the example chosen, the pyramids, both hollow and protruding, have equal equilateral triangles as their base, and their faces are isosceles right triangles. The interlayer sheet is then fully developable on a plane.

   Fig. 2 shows how it can be obtained from a flat sheet. Uniformly distributed recesses 4 are cut therein. The edges of these recesses each have a rectilinear part a, b, c, d, which is of equal length for all. Parts a and b are extended by assembly tabs e.

   In two opposite corners of the recesses 4 are cut out tabs which include a central part f, in the form of an equilateral triangle, attached to the rest of the sheet by one of its sides, which is also inclined on the two corresponding rectilinear parts of the recesses. . The free sides of the legs f are extended by assembly ears g.

   The sheet thus perforated is folded so that part a of the edge of the recesses comes to rest against their part b and their part c, against their part d. Two series of truncated pyramids are thus formed, with a triangular base, alternately projecting and hollow. At the location of the truncated apex, the tabs f are folded back which then serve to connect the intermediate sheet with the outer sheets.

   To assemble the sheets together, any suitable means can be used: gluing, welding, riveting, bolting, screwing or others.

   When certain assembly processes are used (spot welding, riveting, etc.), the one of the two outer sheets which must be assembled first must have holes such as h (fig.l), through which pass the tools (welding electrodes, riveting pins, etc.) necessary to assemble the other outer sheet.

   Because each protruding pyramid vertex is connected by planar faces to the vertices of all adjacent hollow pyramids, the two outer sheets are braced by a full triangulation in all directions. The flexural strength is then the same in all directions and this results in particular in particularly effective resistance under torsional stresses.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The partitioning produced by the interlayer sheet can be used, if necessary with the aid of suitable infill, to obtain a certain thermal insulation.

   Finally, there are in the element passages of triangular section 5 (fig. 4), between each of the outer sheets and the interlayer sheet, in three different directions and other passages 6, also of triangular section (fig. 3). ), but smaller and double in number, in the three directions perpendicular to the previous ones. These passages would make it possible to pass inside the partitions, panels or other construction elements according to the invention - layers of electric wires, commando cables, or various pipes.

   Note that six different layers could coexist, and even cross each other without inconvenience *,
In the event that the compressive stresses resulting, for the outer sheets, from bending stresses, would take their greatest values in a determined direction, one could also use some of these passages to accommodate stiffeners, constituted for example by small angles 7, or simply stamped ribs 8, which would to a certain extent resist the deterioration by buckling of the thin sheets.

   Of course, the invention is not limited to what is described and shown, but can give rise to variants.

   CLAIMS
1 - A construction element comprising three sheets, two of which forming the outer faces, include between them the third, shaped so as to maintain them at the desired spacing. In this element, the interlayer sheet forms a series of pyramids with contiguous bases, alternately hollow and protruding, and the faces of the hollow pyramids are each in the same plane as the face of the protruding pyramid, passing through the same side of base.,
2 - The pyramids are based on an equilateral triangle,, and their faces are isosceles right-triangles.

   3 - The pyramids are truncated in the region close to their summit where they present a facet intended for assembly.

   4 - The interlayer sheet is obtained by pleating a flat sheet surelaquelle the appropriate recesses are distributed.

   5 - The outer sheet, which is the first to be assembled with the intermediate sheet, is pierced with holes for the passage of the tools which will be used for the assembly of the other outer sheet.
