<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

From one point of view it represents and constitutes a new razor. and improved, which is constructed so as to provide means for placing and holding in place, therein, a grooved blade, open at one end, in a state of transverse curved curvature independent of the cap of the clamping flange ordinary blade. On the other hand, alla features a new combination of safety razor and magazine.
Then again, from another point of view the invention consists of a new and improved slide magazine, in which the slides are kept stacked in a staggered relation lengthwise and the slide placed consecutively on top of those contained in the slide. magazine is thrown out of it by means of a feed device which engages a portion of the blade already separated from the adjacent blade which follows due to the staggered arrangement of the blades in the stack.
An important detail of the invention consists of a safety razor which is provided with a blade support piece or guard which is provided with a blade positioned edge and a blade retainer plate. by means of which an open ended, grooved blade can be held on the guard in a transversely arched position. This method of construction not only allows the razor to take blades of different thicknesses, but also by bending the blade this causes sufficient friction to hold it in place, and to avoid any accidental displacement on the guard. .
Alla also provides means which allow the movement of the contact ends of the blades to be positively controlled when they are expelled, and when they are presented, and this avoids the possibility of one blade overlapping the other and being blocked. . in the razor, that is to say an annoying difficulty which occurred previously, when it came to razors supplied from a store.
The construction characteristic of the razor ,. which has just been discussed above is also important as one of the factors of a new razor and store combination.
It has been found to be impractical to engage the end of the unsupported blade of the blade used by the unsupported end of a new blade, and therefore the new invention provides for 'adoption and mounting on the magazine of means capable of first moving the blade which is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is used in the razor, so that its end is placed in such a position that it can be placed between or positively be placed on the retaining plate and the surface of
EMI2.1
the sarCle. The magazine is fitted with a feed device which then advances a new blade, without there being any possibility of obstruction until the advancing end comes into contact with the blade which has been used.
EMI2.2
in its displaced position.
As a result, the ends of the two touching blades are positively controlled throughout the period when one of them is being kicked out by the other.
Another feature of the invention provides a double ended magazine arranged to contain a stack of slides. placed in staggered longitudinal position and ratio which has means for feeding the blades alternately first from one end and then from the other end of the. shop.
The invention also features a novel combination of reversible magazine and reversible blade constructed in such a way that it allows the blades to be delivered from one end to the magazine at one end of the razor and to the other end of the magazine to the razor. the other end with a razor, reversing both the razor and magazine between each removal of a blade from the stack.
EMI2.3
To this end, the present invention also includes as another important detail a novel aspect and method of separating and feeding open-ended grooved blades, which consists of amping up the blades so that the grooves flush with alternating blades opening in opposite directions and
EMI2.4
the alternating layers moved longitudinally in the pile, and then extracted one by one successively the blade which
EMI2.5
sits on top of the stack of blades and allows the end of the stack boat to be reversed over the end between each removal.
These characteristics and other details of the invention,

The safety razor described and illustrated opposite has in its structure a tubular handle 10, to the upper end of which is rigidly secured a blade support member or guard 11 which is generally rectangular in size. . contour and drawing, and which is provided with a convex face., shouldered which supports the blade. Longitudinal grooves are cut in the guard to provide and accommodate marginal guard bars 12 which together with the cutter cap determine the exposure and exposure of the cutting edge of the blade.
The blade support face of the guard is centrally provided with a longitudinal blade placement ridge August 13, the upper face is permanently secured by rivets or otherwise an elongated blade retainer plate 14. stopper 13 extends over the face of guard 11 and is spaced a distance somewhat greater than the thickest blade thickness the razor will be able to use.
Its top face and blade retainer plate 14 are both curved transversely and approximately concentrically with the convex face of the guard so that any flexible blade inserted between the guard and retainer plate 14 is located. thus transversely arched.
The guard, the ridge and the retaining plate are drilled in order to provide a circular opening 15 through which passes a rod 17 which carries at its upper end a blade clamping cap 16. The inner face or clamping face from blade to clamping yoke 16 is transversely concave on a curve which substantially corresponds to the transverse curve of guard 11. It is provided with an elongated recess in which a retaining plate 14 can be fitted.

The housing or envelope of the. magazine 36 has a rectangular cut metal tube, as shown in Figs. 7 and 11 and it is of such dimensions that a stack of blades 20 can be inserted therein and the compressed lifting spring 26 raised to a substantially horizontal position.
The top wall of the magazine box is formed by a pair of spaced inwardly facing flanges 37 and 38 which
EMI6.2
are located above the parts on the side of the ornate slats which leaves free a narrow central opening through which is exposed the central surface of the slat which is
EMI6.3
found at the top of the stack.
The outer corners of the flanges 37 and 38 protrude and they are bent from below to form the extensions (protrusions) which are intended
EMI6.4
to engage the blades, thus iutil is indicated in fig. 11, it is air-protrusions which come into contact with the blade which was used on the guard 11 and initially displaces it when the magazine is brought into operating relation, with the head of the cutter, as well as it will be explained in. the following.
EMI6.5
After the housing is placed on the base plate 30, the notches * t3 are formed on its side walls which snap into the recesses s iJ2 described above. Elongated notches are also provided in the side walls of the housing which constitute the internal longitudinal edges.

res 39. These ridges are found above and they guide the bars positively, guarding the guard of the razor so that they come into contact with the shoulders 28 or 29 of the magazine.
The magazine housing is provided with a feed member.

of the magazine housing 3s. Z stop buttons are installed in the flanges 37 and 38 near opposite ends thereof to limit the movement of the feeder 40, so that at each end of its stroke it can pass freely through the massive end of the slats which are placed in the interior space between the stops

34 and 35 respectively.
The edge 33 and the stoppers 34 and are of a height intended to allow the massive end portions of a blade to pass over them in
EMI6.10
a longitudinally arched state, while the longitudinal edges of the blade pass below the flanges 37 and 38.
When using the magazine described above, it will be assumed that one wishes to expel and replace the blade which is indicated in fig. 8, and as being retained on guard 11 by retaining plate 14. Knob 16 having been lifted

above the stack ae slides is placed.
During this movement of preliminary engagement of the guard and the magazine the corners of the flanges 37 and 38 which are bent downwards
EMI6.13
coming into contact with them shouldered the blade and they move it to the left on the hilt for a fairly considerable distance, for example, say a.fel1 about a quarter of its length, but in any case far enough forward to place the open end of the blade well below the retaining plate 14, and in such a position that the end edges
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
blade are interposed between the retaining plate 14
EMI7.1
'and the face of' engagefúBut of the guard 11.
During this preliminary movement the internal edges 39 of the magazine pass over and guide the guard bars in the margin of the guard,
EMI7.2
as indicated on 1'16. 11, the relative longitudinal movement thus effected is stopped by contact when the end of the guard comes into contact with one or the other of the shoulders 28 or 29.
, The feed device 40 is now
EMI7.3

forward to be housed without the opening between it --- xt2aiité the aroit side of the plate ae retained 14 and the guard 11 -lui is below.
The entry of the blade is facilitated, as has already been observed, by the flared corners of the retained plate and it has free passage below the plate without any obstruction until it enters. contact with the aroit end corner of the blade 20 which has already been moved,
EMI7.6
as explained above and demonstrated in iii, 6.
The contact between the two blades is produced well at, the place which is indicated in fig. 9 it is at a place where the ends of the ugly -two blades-, coming into contact are interposed between the retaining plate and the guard, and consequently it is not possible for them to move vertically, which would take place at case where one blade overlaps another, and thus their jamming would result. The movement of the feed slide 40 continues until it is stopped by the buttons 42
EMI7.7
which are placed on 11-Ixtréciitz'-; and the left side of the store. When this takes place the blade 20 has for the most part been kicked out of the razor head and the new blade has been housed in its place.
@
When the blade thus presented is going to be expelled and the magazine will be used again, it is reversed end to end.
The reverse being necessary for the reason that the second blade of the battery is presented in such a way that its covered end is aired in the direction opposite to the razor head, as shown in figs. 8 and 9, and because, the feed slide has now been moved to
EMI7.8
11 left end to the magazine and that it has been placed in the delivery position produced by the movement made towards the end opposite the magazine.
So we noticed that the spring and 5 pushes
EMI7.9

34 and 35. The triangular 1'anranaisseme fonotion of the stops is. positively retain the second blade of the stack and prevent it from making any longitudinal movement while the 1a, Top of the stack is removed.
Without shim and otherwise the friction engagement contact of the blade

key. clessus would tend to move the second blade.
Therefore, the person using the razor and the magazine described opposite can easily see which of the magazine ends should be put in the gripping position with the razor, and at which end with the razor.
