Mr. @osef Hillel SPIRA in New York (USA) Apparatus for forming or polishing facets on precious stones, diamonds and the like.
International Convention: Brazilian Patent Application No. 26795 of ...: March 11, 1941 and United States Patent Application No. 43756 of March 31, 1942.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new species of dop or clamping head in machines for grinding, cutting or polishing all the facets of the pavilion of precious stones, held in the dop by simple clamping by mechanical means of the body rough of an ina- precious stone. lapped, by the still cylindrical part of the base with inclined walls thereof without the use of cement, welding or the like.
Attempts to solve this problem by using a clamping head with two jaws have revealed serious drawbacks.
To hold the gemstone firmly despite all the irregularities and large reaction forces, these jaws must be very strong and have only localized open areas, allowing contact between the gemstone and the surface of the grinding wheel or disc.
This requires quite complicated handling, the repeated release of the gemstone from the clamping head, the peripheral readjustment of the head to the gemstone and the tightening of the gemstone in the dop as well as the production. facets in a particular succession

and interrupted.
EMI2.1
The invention avoids all these drawbacks by employing a clamping head with more than two jaws, which, ç-oss; 1è a protruding part extended over the entire periphery so that the part of the stone 'stop, which forms the flap and the cylinder head, becomes fully accessible to the tongue or disc surface, so that all

EMI2.4
It is particularly advantageous to provide for the new c op su at least two pairs (the jaws opposed and spaced apart and a device for clamping each of these pairs:
z jaws independently of the other pair, so that these jaws can adapt to any irregularity in the cylindrical part of the burnt stone in question.
The invention makes it possible to use an inexperienced workforce.

The side walls 125 determining the opening 125 are preferably made cylindrical to match the cylindrical section 126 of a rough workpiece 85. The table portion 127 of this workpiece faces inwardly. opening 124.
