EXEMPLE I.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
EXEMPLE: II

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF A REQUEST
OF INVENTION PATENT Mr. Jacques VANDERKINDERE New waterproofing product.
The present invention relates to a new product intended to ensure effectively and permanently the waterproofing of very diverse materials such as fabrics, cardboard, paper, wood, bricks and other construction materials. It is based on the discovery of properties of mothballs and its chlorinated derivatives which have not yet been used up to now and which make them particularly advantageous ingredients in the presence of other waterproofing materials, the dissolution of which they promote and / or the intimate mix.
The product according to the invention is characterized by the presence of naphthalene and comprises as main ingredients, in the chlorinated state or not, paraffin, naphthalene and rubber in solution, other materials, fillers or pigments which can be added according to the condition and appearance to be given to the product.
As it is, that is to say without the addition of solvents, the above mixture is prepared while hot but is in the solid state at ordinary temperature which is an advantage for transport and storage.
With the addition of one or more solvents, for example benzol or other hydrocarbons, or chlorinated solvents, either during manufacture or afterwards, the product is in liquid state and is ready for use. employment. It can be applied by brush, spray gun or by immersion of the object to be waterproofed.
EXAMPLE I.
Mix 50 parts by weight of molten paraffin, 20 to 25 parts of mothballs and 50 parts of a 10% solution of rubber in benzol. The mixture can be tinted by the addition of pigments and fillers can also be added, for example binders to increase its covering power.
The product is solid after cooling. It dissolves readily in hydrocarbons or in carbon tetrachloride and other chlorinated solvents.

EXAMPLE: II
Proceed as in the previous example, replacing part of the mothballs with chlornaphthalines.
EXAMPLE III
Dissolve on the one hand 50 parts of paraffin in 250 parts of benzol with carbon tetrachloride added, on the other hand 20 parts of naphthalene or chlorinated naphthalene in 200 parts of benzol, and mix these solutions with a solution of 5 parts of rubber in 100 parts of benzol. Add 100 to 400 parts of carbon tetrachloride.
The product is liquid and non-flammable.
In its various forms, the product according to the invention is a highly effective water repellent. Used for the impregnation of a porous support, fabric, fibrous material or mineral material, it makes this support waterproof, while leaving it permeable to air. It is also noted that it gives rise to a deep penetration into the support; this phenomenon, which is not noticeable in the absence of mothballs, can be attributed to a slow sublimation of the latter in the pores of the support.
Another advantageous effect of mothballs, as such or chlorinated, is to prevent or delay the deterioration of the materials which accompany it, in particular the demotion of the rubber under the action of light and heat. ; It also increases the resistance of the paraffin to heat and fixes the water repellent in the substrate.
It is understood that the examples given above are in no way limiting and that other ingredients can be added to those which form the basis of the product according to the invention, without departing from the scope thereof.
