    MACHINE A SERRER LES ECROUS DES RAYONS DE ROUES.

    @

     Le touret 23 dans lequel est monté le tournevis peut

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

   Lorsque la résistance de serrage augmente, cette bille se dégage automatiquement de son logement;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 tambour 25.

    MACHINE TO TIGHTEN THE NUTS OF THE WHEEL SPOKES.

    @
The invention relates to a machine for tightening the nuts of the spokes and for centering the wheels of bicycles, motorcycles, etc.

   Until now, there is no fully automatic machine, allowing the tightening of the nuts and the centering of the bicycle wheels and these operations are made in a primitive way by tightening the nuts successively on the different sides of the rim and in checking. at the same time relying on centering.

   The object of the invention is a machine for tightening the nuts on the spokes of wheels, comprising a frame and a wheel support, characterized in that it comprises a device for adjusting the position of the wheel support, relative to the frame of the wheel guide rollers, fixed to the frame and arranged so as to tension the spokes, a

   The machine for centering the wheels of bicycles according to the invention comprises a frame 1 on which are mounted two series of bearings 2 and 3. In these bearings slide two pins 4 and 5 connected at the rear by a spacer 6.

   These pins each carry at one end a support 7 in which slide, perpendicularly to the direction of the arms, two pins 8 and 9 supporting spikes intended to receive the hubs of the wheels to be centered.

   The axes 8 and 9 can be provided with any suitable device making it possible to mount between centers wheels of different bores or even the axis of a wheel mounted directly on a hub. In this case, the axes 8 and 9 have corresponding bores.

   These axes 8 and 9 can be moved away from each other and the supports 7 are provided with clamping devices 10 to block the axes 8 and 9.

   On the support 4 is disposed an arm 11 supporting a shaft 12 on which are fixed two baguas 13 responsible for guiding the rim 14 during its rotation.

   Two rollers 15 hold the rim in place. These rollers 15 are mounted respectively on shafts 16 and 17, the shaft 16 being fixed while the shaft 17 can slide in its bearing 18, so as to allow removal of the rim 14.

   A device making it possible to withdraw and slide the shaft 17 in its bearing consists of a lever 19 held during the centering by means of a stop 20.

   When the machine is running, the rim 14 rotates in fits and starts and while the rim remains stationary, the screwdriver 21 with automatic disengagement advances towards the oror 22 to be tightened.

     The reel 23 in which the screwdriver is mounted can

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 oscillate around an axis 24 to allow screwing of the nuts of the joints in which the ends of the spokes end alternately on two sides of the rim.

   This rim has, in general, 36 spokes and the machine is designed to screw all of the spokes twice in succession. During the first screwing, the rollers 15 tension the rim between the rollers and the pins 8 and 9.

   When this first screwing is carried out, the machine automatically relaxes the rim by bringing the supports 7 closer to the rollers 15 and a second screwing of all the éorous is carried out.

   Finally, after these two screwings, the machine stops automatically.

   The machine comprises a control drum 25 rotating at the rear of the machine, around an axis 26.

   This drum comprises first of all a toothed ring provided with 72 teeth 27, for controlling the rotation of the drum.
This crown 27 is driven by a pawl 28 pivoting on a pin 29 fixed to a lever 30.

   The lever 30 oscillates around an axis 31 and has at its rear part a grain 32 pushed back by a stud 33 actuated by a pusher 34.

   The pusher 34 is subjected to longitudinal movements in its housing, thanks to the action of an oame 35 mounted on a control shaft 36.

   At each revolution of the oame 35, the pusher 34 is pushed backwards and by means of the stud 33 and the grain 32, oscillates the lever 30 supporting the pawl 28, which drives the crown 27. the drum 25 rotates so so and take a walk

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 complete when cam 35 has made 72 turns.

   This corresponds to tightening all the spokes of the spokes twice in a row.

   On the drum 25 is fixed a second ring 37, the Inaction of which causes the reel 23 to pivot about its axis 24, so as to place the screwdriver alternately opposite the nuts located on one or the other blank of the rim.

   We see, in particular, in Figure 7, the teeth of crown 37 shown partially.

   A grain 38 comes to rest on these teeth and moves back or forward depending on the position of the crown. The position of this grain is adjusted by a screw 38 '.

   When the grain 38 is fully toothed, the lever 39 which supports it pivots around an axis 24, thanks to the action of a spring 41.

   When the crown 37 turns slightly, the grain 38 rises on the top of a tooth and the lever 39 oscillates by tilting the reel 23. A stop 42 makes it possible to limit at will the stroke of one of the arms of a lever. 39.

   This stop may be constituted by a screw, the position of which is adjusted in an internal thread formed inside a sleeve 43.

   Finally, on the drum 25 is mounted a third ring 44, the periphery of which is in the form of a cam and which is intended to control the approach of the axes 8 and 9 of the rim supports, of the screwdriver before starting the second tightening.

   When the nuts 22 of the rim 14 are tightened for the first time, that is to say on the first revolution of the wheel, a grit 45 mounted on

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 a lever 46 is in contact with the part 44 'of the crown 44 furthest from the center. The lever 46 can oscillate about an axis 47, and is connected to an arm 48 on which two rollers 49 are mounted.

   The rollers 49 bear on the one hand, on the fixed bearing 2 and, on the other hand, on a ring 50 fixed on the movable axis longitudinally by means of a stud 50 '. The ring 50 is applied against one of the rollers 49 by a spring 51 located between the ring 50 and a fixed support 3.

   When the roller 45 descends on the part 44 'of the ring 44, closest to the axis, the lever 46 oscillates around the axis 47 and the rollers 49 move between the fixed support and the ring 50, one of the rollers descending from the stud 50 'which brings about the approach of the ring 50 of the fixed support 2 under the action of the spring 51, driving the axes 4 and 5 connected by the spacer 6.

   The assembly comprising the pins 4 and 5 on which are mounted the pins 8 and 9 which hold the hub of the wheel, move in the direction of an approach of the rollers 15.

   Since the rollers 15 holding the rim have a fixed position on the frame, the spokes of the rim 14 undergo a decrease in tension.

   The machine continuing to run, the screwdriver performs a second tightening of the nuts 22. the device for rotating the wheel on its axis comprises a cam 52 fixed on the control axis of the machine which acts on a lever 53 on which is fixed an axis 54 supporting an arm 55.

   On the arm 55 is mounted a spring pawl 56 rubbing against the rim and the shaft 54 oscillates about an axis 57.

   When the oame 52 pushes the lever 53 back, the axis 54

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 osoille around the axis 57 and the pawl 56 rises until it meets an erou 22 which pushes it upwards and causes the rotation of the wheel.

   When the lever 53 descends on the periphery of the cage, the pawl 56 falls back under the inaction of the spring 58 and comes back into position under the immediately lower éorou. the screwdriver 21 is controlled in rotation by a pulley 59 on which is disposed a ball clutch 60.

   This ball clutch has the effect of causing the automatic disengagement of the screwdriver when the tightening resistance of the nut exceeds a limit determined in advance. The ball 61 of the clutch is normally housed in a hollow formed on the rod screwdriver.

   When the clamping resistance increases, this ball automatically releases from its housing;
A sleeve 62 sliding on the body of the screwdriver is provided with a part 63 surrounding the tip of the screwdriver which holds the hole 22 against the rim during tightening.

   The screwdriver itself has in its center a longitudinal bore 64 which allows the spoke to be lodged when the latter passes the head of the nut.

   This longitudinal bore prevents any contact between the spoke and the edge of the screwdriver.

   The control of the advance of the reel 23 supporting the screwdriver 21 is carried out by means of a lever 65 oscillating around the axis 57 under the action of an oame 66,
The lever 65 is provided with a grain 67 which is pushed back in an elastic manner, thanks to the interposition of a spring

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 68 the reel 23, so as to gently approach the screwdriver of the nut 22 on the rim 14.

   When the roller 69 mounted on the lever 65 descends from the cam 66, the grain 67 moves back and the whole of the reel follows its movement thanks to a return spring 70.

   The three cams: 35, 62 and 66 are mounted on the same control shaft 36.

   The machine can be controlled by an electric motor driving, via a belt, a central pulley 71, driving an axis 72 on which is mounted a worm 73, driving a helical wheel 74.

   The wheel 74 controls a toothed wheel 75 connected by a chain to a second toothed wheel 76, mounted on a sleeve 77, provided with a clutch,
A tensioner roller 78 tension the chain between the toothed wheels 75 and 76.

   A clutch is provided for driving the camshaft pin 36.

   This clutch is formed by two toothed rings between which a spring 79 acts in the direction of disengagement.

   A lever 80 makes it possible to bring the two toothed rings of the clutch closer to start the maohine.

   The lever is held in this position by a finger 81 integral with the lever 80. When the machine is engaged, the finger 81 is locked by a lever 83 pressing on the head of the finger 81.

   The lever 83 is fixed on an axis 84 oscillating in a support 85 and comprising at one of its ends another lever 86 provided with a grain 87, rubbing on the periphery of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 drum 25.

   The drum 25 comprises a tooth 88 which comes once per revolution to lift the grain 87, causing the movement of the lever 83 in front of the finger 81.

   The finger 81 then moves back, releasing the clutch, which automatically stops the machine.

   The lever 86 is provided with a handle 86 'enabling the machine to be stopped by hand.

   The embodiment of the machine for centering the wheels of bicycles and for centering the nuts which has just been described has been given only to make the invention easier to understand and detailed modifications can be made to it without changing it. We can in particular realize semi-automatic or manually controlled machines to achieve the same goal.

   In particular, the automatic disengaging clamping device which has been described consists of a screwdriver, but this screwdriver can obviously be replaced by any similar device without modifying the spirit of the invention.
