L'invention sera d'ailleurs bien comprise si l'on se reporte la descrip- tion qui suit et au dessin qui l'accompagne à titre d'exemple non limitatif et dans lequel : la figure 1 est un schéma d'un appareil de chantage à haute fréquence oon- forme à l'invention;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

IMPROVEMENTS TO HIGH FFEQUENUE ELECTRIC HEATING DEVICES.
The present invention relates to heaters using high frequency currents, and more particularly those intended to inductively heat parts of a magnetic nature to temperatures higher than the temperature known in the United States as the temperature of " decalescence ". Its aim is to create simple and easy means for automatically increasing the energy input into the part to be treated, when the energy absorbed by it tends to decrease; this is particularly the case when it reaches the decalcification temperature.
It is thus possible to maintain the quantity of energy supplied to the part at a level at least equal to a certain predetermined value.

EMI2.1
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a control device with energy storage, such as a capacitor which is charged during the first stage of heating at maximum power and which, when the asborbetic energy subsequently decreases.
EMI2.2
is used to actuate means comprising an auxiliary device for dleatroniqae discharge. These means serve to restore the energy dissipated in the room to its initial level.
The invention will moreover be well understood if reference is made to the following description and to the drawing which accompanies it by way of nonlimiting example and in which: FIG. 1 is a diagram of an apparatus for high frequency blackmail conforms to the invention;

EMI2.4
In. ae referring ex figure 2, we see a typical curve of the energy supplied to a steel part during an operation of induction heating by means of high frequency currents, at about 530,000 hertz.
When the heating circuit is closed, the energy absorbed increases rapidly.
EMI2.5
However, although the energy increase is somewhat delayed by the time required for heating the electronic discharge device.
At point a, the oscillator begins to deliver full power to the part.
EMI2.6
This power increases, as can be seen in the figure, when the steel has! 6ohu & fe due to the increase in its resistivity with the increase in temperature., The absorbed energy becomes maximum at i, point which represents the temperature of C9nce shifts. Shortly after, between points b and c, the steel becomes non-magnetic and the power absorbed by the part drops to a low value of Debt decrease in power absorbed comes from the increase in the depth of penetration of the currents eddy in the steel when it becomes non-magnetic, because the resistance at high frequency decreases in a significant way, after the Curie point -, it follows that the energy released in the metal decreases,
On the other hand, when the steel is in the magnetic state,
the induced currents in question are confined in a relatively thin layer at the surface of the steel, and this layer, which has a small section, has a large
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
resistance.
From point d, the power increases again with increasing temperature of the steel because its resistivity increases.
It is therefore evident that this decrease in energy absorbed by the part, when the steel is heated above its decalescent temperature, appreciably increases the time required to heat the part to the desired temperature.
According to the invention, a device is provided which is sensitive to the reduction in energy which takes place between points b and f (FIG. 2); this device then increases the energy absorbed to a value substantially equal to its original value, for example up to point e of the part in dashed lines of the curve, Then the energy decreases slightly with a subsequent decrease in magnetic properties of steel, and it increases again with the increase in resistivity due to the rise in temperature.
The invention is shown by way of non-limiting example, as comprising a conventional Oolpitt oscillator supplying a current at approximately 530,000 hertz to an induction heater; this is represented in the form of a coil 10 surrounding the part 11 of magnetic material, such as iron and steel
The oscillation generator comprises a suitable discharge tube 12, the anode-cathode circuit of which is supplied with direct current by a source whose positive wire is 13 and whose negative wire 13a is preferably earthed. A suitable inductor 14 is connected in series in the wire 13 before the anode 15 of the tube.
This anode is connected by a capacitor 16 to an oscillating circuit comprising two capacitors 17-18 connected in series and at the terminals of all of which are, in series, an inductance coil 19 and the heated coil 10. A Regulating impedance 20, represented by a coil, is paralleled with coil 10.
The junction point 21 of the two capacitors is connected to the cathode 22 of the tube, while the Lower terminal 23 of the capacitor 18 is connected, by a capacitor 24, to the grid 25 of the tube. A suitable leakage resistor 26 is connected between grid and cathode. The grid is, as is known, brought to a negative potential when the tube oscillates.
The source connected to the anode voltage line 13-13a can be constituted by a rectifier supplied by an AC distribution network.
According to the invention, the inductor 20 is connected in parallel
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
with the coil 10, in the circuit providing the high frequency current, in order to increase the energy supplied to the coil 10 when said inductor 20 is switched off. The circuit is opened by means of a normally closed switch 27, placed in the open position by means of a coil 28. The latter is supplied by an energy storage device. such as capacitor 29 which is charged to its maximum value when the energy supplied to coil 10 is maximum.
Therefore, when said energy decreases, the capacitor 29 is discharged through the coil 30 and a discharge tube 31 automatically controlled by the decrease in the energy absorbed, such that the switch 32 is closed; the coil 28 is then supplied by a source 33.
To control the capacitor 29 and the discharge tube 31, two resistors 34 and 35 are used, placed in series in the plate-cathode circuit of the tube 12, the resistor 35 being variable. These resistors are connected between cathode 22 and wire 13a. The lower end of the resistor 35, that is to say the wire 13a, is connected by a resistor 36 to the grid of the tube 31, while the point 37 common to the two resistors is connected to the cathode of this tube 31 and the lower terminal of capacitor 29. A rectifier tube 38 is connected between the upper end of resistor 34 and that of capacitor 29.
As indicated above, this same terminal of the capacitor is connected by coil 39 to the anode of tube 31.
This heater is set so as to provide a predetermined amount of inductive energy to a piece of steel 11, at the start of heating with switch 27 closed, so that inductor 20 is interposed in the high frequency power supply circuit. This initial energy is that which, in figure 2, corresponds to the boint b, for which the energy is maximum when the @ iéce has been heated up to its decalescence temperature This maximum value is determined by the characteristics of the the heating device of the room, or by the speed with which the heating occurs.
The regulation of the power is obtained by the regulation (by means of elements not representing the direct anode voltage supplied by the lines 13 and 13a, and also by the regulation of the frequency of the current supplied to the coil 10. This Frequency adjustment is obtained by properly connecting the upper end of coil 10 to a tap 43 chosen on inductor 19.
Heating is initiated by closing an appropriate switch (not shown) so as to energize line 13, 13a. The stream
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in tube and resistors 34 and 35 is proportional to the current in the high frequency induction heater and coil 10. During heating to point b, figure 2. capacitor 29 is charged under the voltage existing at the terminals of resistor 34 through which the current from rectifier 38 passes.
The voltage drop across resistor 35 applies a negative bias to the grid of tube 31 sufficient to block it.
When the energy absorbed by the coil 10 decreases and the current, which passes through the discharge tube 12 and the resistors 34 and 35, decreases because the workpiece becomes non-magnetic, the capacitor 29 keeps its charge, although the voltage across resistor 34 decreases, because rectifier 38 is then no longer conductive. However, this lower current in resistor 35 decreases the negative bias of the grid of tube 31, and when the bias drops to a predetermined value, corresponding to the value of the energy at point 7, figure 2, tube 31 is unblocked. and capacitor 29 discharges through this tube and coil 30, which closes switch 32.
This allows the supply of coil 28 which opens Switch 27, which disconnects Inductance 20.,
The energy in the coil 10 is thereby increased and the current in this coil returns substantially to its original value. The coil 28 also closes a switch 39 for locking a bonding circuit, which keeps the coil 28 energized during the increase in the energy supplied and the de-energization of the coil 30.
When the heating operation is finished, the line 13, 13a is cut, the coil 10 is no longer supplied and the coil 28 is de-energized, so that the switch 40 opens; it is closed again at the start of the next heating operation and the adjustment element 20 has been shown as being connected in parallel with the heating coil 10, but it can of course be put in series with it; It can also be connected at any appropriate point of the generation or rectification circuit, in order to achieve the desired variation of high frequency energy.
For example, the adjustment element can be a resistor connected directly in the AC supply circuit, before rectification, for example in the supply line,
A ballast resistor 41 has also been arranged across the resistor 34, in order to increase the sensitivity of the control. Resistor 41 is a direct function of the current flowing through it.
This resistance maintains
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the voltage across resistor 34 is low during the initial stage of increasing current and energy, up to. cc that a sufficient negative bias has been applied to the 35 terminals, in order to keep the tube 31 blocked. This reduces the possibility of inadvertent operation of tube 31 during voltage and current peaks.
When the absorbed energy reaches or approaches ds ag maximum value and the current in resistor 34 is close to its maximum value, the voltage across capacitor 29 increases rapidly due to its maximum value, hence clearing Tube cage 31, as mentioned above. Since the ballast resistor obviates the need for a relatively high negative bias of tube 31, during the step of increasing the current, the screen grid of tube 51 can be connected directly by an appropriate impedance 42 to the cathode of this tube. tube. This arrangement makes it possible to achieve better control of the operation at the point of priming of the tube 31.
As a variant with the adjustment device which has just been described, the heating effect can be adjusted by means of an inductance coil connected to the terminals of the heating coil 10 and by means of a conductive non-magnetic core which can move relative to the coil, so as to vary its inductance and thus regulate the heating.
This displacement is preferably effected automatically after a predetermined time interval from the start of the heating operation, or as a function of a change in the current supplied to the heater.
In this variant as in the first, the energy absorbed is preferably increased automatically, after the decalescence temperature has been reached, so as to facilitate the continuation of the heating, using an inductor coil 20 connected. in parallel with the heating coil 10.
At the start of heating, the non-magnetic conductive core 44, preferably copper, is inside the coil, so that its inductance is relatively low; the coil thus exhibits a relatively low impedance, in parallel in the high frequency current circuit, the heater otherwise being set to give the desired initial increase in heating under these conditions.
When the part to be treated reaches its decalescence temperature, the copper core 44 is removed from the coil, which increases its inductance; the relatively high forward current impedance; almost all the current at high fre-
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
-quence passes through coil 10. The amount of heat produced increases to the value it initially had, which allows heating to continue at high speed.
The movement of the core 44 is obtained by means of the coil 28 supplied by the relay 32 at the desired moment, as seen above. The relay 32 provides power to the coil 28 which attracts its armature and causes the core 43 to come out of the coil 20. The same gluing device has been provided as previously.
As in the first variant, the adjustment element 20 could be placed as has been said about this variant ,,
The present invention is applicable to many heating applications where the absorbed energy decreases during heating, such as, for example, in the drying of fabrics, bowls or other dielectric materials. It also applies to high-frequency induction heaters, of the plate type and dielectric loss, and to the electromagnetic devices described.
