 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   PATENT OF INVENTION Improvements to percussion mine cutters
The mine cutters working by percussion are generally constituted by a steel cap fitting on the end of the percussion bar and on which is brazed a plate of tungsten carbide or other hard material resistant to wear. This plate is in the form of a blade with parallel faces. Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawing show in plan elevation and in section this known arrangement. The plate to occupy the width of the hat, b.

   The working part

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 is beveled, as seen in figure 3.

    The cutting edge is not straight, but made up of a curved line as shown in Figure 1. Holes or vents are intended to facilitate the release of loose material.

   It is also known to give the side faces a slight obliquity, figure 4.

   This arrangement has various disadvantages:
The cutting edge wears unevenly.

  The wear on the edges is greater, so that after a while the edge will take the shape shown in phantom, figure 1. Figure 2 shows the new edges in phantom! formed by wear and tear. This deformation slows down the rate of formation. At the same time, the head of the hat wears out on its side, and recesses are formed in fig.3 and the plate tends to come loose and risk breaking.

   The object of the invention is to avoid these drawbacks. In principle, it consists of providing the cutting edge with several inserts with non-parallel faces, converging towards the axis of the percussion tool.

   Another characteristic consists in leaving between these plates an interval which is located in the center of the cutting edge and which constitutes a recess allowing air or water to circulate for the release of materials detached by the tool. The appended drawing, given without limitation, represents several exemplary embodiments.

   FIG. 5 represents in elevation, FIG. 6 in plan and FIG. 9 in side view, an exceptional form with two plates.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Cigar 8 is an end view showing a three-pad variant *
Figures 9 and 10 show two arrangements with four plates.

   As can be seen in this drawing, in the arrangement of cigars 5 to 7 on the head of the tool are brazed two tungsten carbide plates with inclined faoes, the widest part facing outwards.

  An empty space f is left between the plates for the passage of air or water, serving to release materials *
The head of the tool may also have recesses g.

   The variants of Figures 8 and 9 differ from the arrangement of Figure 5 only because they include three and four plates s respectively. made the arrangement of Figure 10 which is four plates, the recesses are replaced by holes.

   The new tool has the following advantages, among others:
There is no longer any need to provide two side vents a which are difficult to execute and which keep getting blocked.

  The central vent, particularly easy to perform, is sufficient. Protected by the platelets, it cannot clog under any circumstances.

   Lateral wear, which after a certain time slows down the feed, and consequently requires resharpening. is obviously inversely proportional to the thickness of the wafer at the periphery. As the platelets are

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 wider where the wear is greatest, the wear is regularized and reduced.

   The wear on the top of the insert is also reduced and as the carbide surface for crushing the debris is increased, a noticeable reduction, if not elimination, of the wear of the insert is rightly allowed. aoier bringing the loosening: platelets.

   In addition, as the bit has an appreciable radius of curvature, reducing practically to an angle at the very open apex, the reactions on the pads break down into two efforts, one tending to push the pad down to the bottom of its housing, the second weaker tending to push the plate towards the center.

   When the trim of the cutting edge is oonstituée, as in the known arrangement, by means of a single plate, this force which occurs on each side is absorbed by the plate, which is not particularly qualified to withstand this kind of force. .

   On the contrary, if the plate is in two parts, the steel will participate by its elasticity in the absorption of this force.

   The new system lends itself to the realization of all the shapes of cutters currently in use, monoburin, cross, star with three branches, etc.

   It can be lifted as has been said either with the conventional exterior side debris clearances, or with the lateral clearance in the aoier.

   In the new cutting, the inserts can have non-parallel faces in the vertical direction

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 in a manner similar to what has been shown in fig. 4.

   The above arrangements are given only by way of example, all the details of execution, shapes, dimensions, materials used may vary in all cases, without changing the principle of the invention.

    CLAIMS 1) A percussion mine curd with inserts made of hard materials, characterized in that it comprises at least two inserts leaving a clearance in the center of the tool serving as a vent.

     2) A cutting according to 1 characterized in that the plates have inclined faces, the widest part being on the outside.
