  BREVET D'INVENTION Perforatrice

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

  PATENT OF INVENTION Punch
The present invention relates to perforators and, more particularly, to rotary type perforators comprising a device making it possible to send cleaning fluid to the bit to cool it and to remove rock shards from the work surface.

   One of the aims of the invention is to provide a connection between the tool and the elements bringing cleaning fluid to it which can be established quickly.

   Another object of the invention is to avoid the. leaking cleaning fluid from the puncher and using pressure

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 of this fluid as a force to maintain a tight seal between the tool and the fluid supply elements.

   Other advantages and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description below, made with reference to the appended drawing in which: - Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a perforator according to the invention, mounted on a column to drill a horizontal hole.

     - Figure 2 is a view, on a larger scale, and longitudinal elevation, with parts in section, of this perforator.

   In the drawing, we see a perforator 20 mounted on a column 21 and used to rotate and advance the tool 22.

   This tool consists of several tubular elements 23 joined to one another by connecting pieces 24, comprising a rod 25 to. their opposite ends, screwing into the elements 23 and cha.que connecting piece has a passage 26 providing communication between passages 27 of neighboring elements 23. The ends of the passages 26 are tapered so as to constitute the valve seats 28 and the seat of the downstream end of each passage 26 cooperates with a check valve 29 preventing cleaning fluid from returning from the tool to the nozzle. hole punch.

   One end of the shank system carries a cutting edge 30 shown as being of type. diamond in order to drill a hole 31 in rock 32 and the opposite end of the tool is fixed on the feed screw 33 of the drill, by means of a mandrel 34. This mandrel is screwed on the, is of advance housing 35 comprising a threaded rod 36

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 serving to receive the threaded end 37 of the feed screw, and, in the housing 35, there is. several radially movable jaws 38, serving to clamp the tool.

   These jaws are a, ctées, in order to engage with the tool or out of engagement with it, by means of screws 39 passing through the wall of the housing 35 and having heads 40 at their inner ends engaged with jaws so that the screws can retract the jaws from their tool clamping positions. The jaws are guided by the end walls 41 and, in these end pa.rois, there is. openings 42 of sufficient size to allow the tool to be easily inserted into the mandrel.

   The feed screw 33 passes fully through the housing 43 of the punch and has an end motion range which is approximately equal to the length of a shank member 23. As a result of this arrangement, when the mandrel 34. Is detached from the tool and is returned to the limit of the rearward movement of the. As a feed screw, a shank member 23 can conveniently be inserted into the chuck and screwed onto the tool without the need to move the perforator into it, out of alignment with the borehole.

   In addition, the feed screw passes axially in the motor used to turn the tool and this motor 44 is placed in front of the body 43. It is of the rotating type, with sliding blades, its rotor 45 is in operation. taken on the -, it in advance, by assembly, with grooves and the, nguettes, so that the tool turns at the speed of the rotor and is capable of moving at the end relative to the latter.

   Accordingly, the. feed screw has on its periphery a series of grooves 46 of which only one is shown, extending longitudina, -

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 From the rear end of the feed screw to a neighboring point, the shank 36 of the mandrel and, on the inner surface of the rotor, are ribs 47 which can slide in the grooves 46 and which have , preferably the same length as the rotor,
The chamber 48 containing the rotor 45 is delimited by a sleeve 49 and plates 50 and 51 introduced into the casing 43 so as to constitute closures for the ends of the chamber 48.

   At the ends of the rotor, there are annular journals 52 and 53 passing through the plates 50 and 51 respectively and coming to bear on antifriction bearings 54 and 55.

   The pressurized fluid used to actuate the rotor comes to the perforator, from a power source, through a conduit 56 screwing onto the housing 43 and a throttle valve 57 controls the flow of this pressurized fluid in a entrance passage 58 leading to. chamber 48 and communicating with it through several openings 59. Exhaust fluid flows from chamber 48 into the atmosphere through orifices 60 in sleeve 49 and the housing wall 43.

   As said above, the rotor also provides the necessary force? to advance the tool towards the 1) drilling anoint. For this purpose, the journal 53porte a toothed wheel 61, meshing with a toothed wheel 62, wedged on a hollow shaft 63 journaled in the casing 43 and disposed parallel to. the feed screw 33. A number of gear wheels 64 are arranged on the shaft 63 so as to mesh with wheels 65 wedged on a feed nut 66 for the feed screw; this nut 66 being suitably supported by antifriction bearings 67 and 68, and threaded so as to cooperate with the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 threads 69 of the feed screw 33.

   The toothed wheels 64 differ from each other in the number of teeth, so as to allow rotation of the nut 66 at different speeds, and they are selectively engaged with the shaft 63 for them. fa.ire rotate therewith, by a key 70 carried by a plunger 7I which can move back and forth in the shaft 63. The key 70 can slide in the slots 72 formed in the opposite sides of the shaft 63 and its ends protrude from shaft 63 to engage with keyways 73 of gear wheels 64.

   The plunger 71 is moved by hand, using a rack 74 and a pinion 75 meshing with it and this plunger is engaged with the rack so as to prevent any relative movement at the end between these two parts, and to allow the rotation of the plunger relative to the rack.

   Due to the arrangement of the toothed wheels 64 and 65 and the key 70 being in a position such that it connects a toothed wheel 64 to the shaft 63, the feed nut 66 rotates in a well known manner to advance the tool at a desired speed of the feed movement, depending on that of the wheels 64 / which is then engaged with the shaft 63. The movement in the opposite direction of the feed nut 66, in order to make the feed screw, can be done manually by means of a handwheel 76 which is connected to the rear end of the feed nut 66.

   The fluid used to cool the bit and sweep the waste from the borehole passes through the feed screw to which it has, rrive via a supply duct 77 connected to a ball 78. The duct 77 is controlled by a tap 79 and the pivot 78 is screwed into a hollow cap 80 itself screwed into

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 the rear end of the feed screw. The inner end of the hollow plug is connected by screw to a tube 81 with head 82 at its free end and the periphery of this head is an annular garnissa.ge element 83 serving to make a seal between the inner surface of the. feed screw and head 82.

   In the central part of the head 82 there is. an opening 84 in la.quelle pa.sse, sliding, a tube 85 comprises an outer flange 86, located in the tube 81 and cooperating with the head 82 so as to limit the movement of the tube 85 in the direction of the tool 22. The front end of the tube 85 screws into one end of a hollow connecting piece 87 whose opposite end is connected in the same way to. a body 88 comprising a passage 89 for passing the cleaning liquid from the. connecting piece to the passage 26 of the tool.

   Body 88 slips into feed screw 33 and its circumference forms an annular closure member 90 preventing cleaning liquid from leaking along the body surface through the front end of the body.
 EMI6.1
 advance screw..r
In a preferred embodiment, the end of the passage 89, adjacent to the connecting piece 87, is widened so as to. provide a cavity 91 for housing a spring-loaded check valve 92 for closing the front end of the connecting piece to prevent cleaning fluid from flowing from the tool into the feed members of the liquid located at. back of body 88.

   The front end portion of the body a. the shape of a reduced rod 93 penetrates a cavity 94 of an elastic, annular closure element 95, having an inverted flange 96 which fits in an annular groove 97

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 of the perimeter of the rod 93 so as to join the closure element 95 with the body. The closure member 95 has a passage 98 for communicating between the passages 89 and 26 and the front end of the closure member 95 bears against the adjacent end of the tool to prevent cleaning liquid from escaping. leak between them and through the mandrel 34.

   The closure element is surrounded by a sleeve 99 which is suitably connected to the front part of the body 88. The bore 100 of the sleeve 99, located in front of the closure element 95, has the desired proportions. to receive the end of the tool, and the entry end 101 of the bore 100 is flared so as to facilitate the insertion of the tool into the bore 100. The body and the parts which are connected to it are pushed forward, in order to bring the closure element 95 into engagement with the tool, by a spring 102 interposed between the head 82 and the body 88.

     The space containing the spring 102 constitutes a pressure chamber 103 which is delimited by the body 88, the head 82 and the tube 85 and the pressurized cleaning fluid arrives in this chamber 103 through orifices 104 of the connecting piece 87 , so as to act on a pressure surface 105 of the body 88, in order to push the closure element 95 forward. The pressure of the fluid acting on the surface 105, coupled with that acting on the free end of the tube 85 and with the force exerted by the spring 102 firmly applies the element 95 against the tool, so that it does not There is no cleaning fluid escaping outside the hole punch.

   In operation of the device, it will be assumed that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 the feed screw 33 is in the retracted position where it is before starting a drilling and the closure member 95 is in its extreme forward position, in which the flange 86 of the tube 85 is in engagement with the head 83. The end of a rod element 23, to which a connecting piece 34 is attached, is then introduced into the sleeve 99 of the mandrel, against the closure element 95.

   A seal is thus conveniently established which is then effectively held by the springs 102 as the rod and tube system is retracted to the extent necessary to enable it. the opposite end of the shank member from coming into alignment with the tool and during reverse movement of the shank member to allow the tool to be screwed onto it.

   Having thus lengthened the tool and the parts being positioned so that the flange 86 is at a suitable distance above the head 82, which is the position it must occupy so that the movable tubular parts in the feed screw can have freedom of movement to ensure the necessary pressure of the closure element 95 against the tool, the jaws 38 are actuated to engage them with the tool so as to fix them securely on him. The valve 79 is then opened so as to communicate the passages of the advance screw and of the tool with the source of cleaning fluid.

   Some of this fluid enters the pressurized chamber I03 and acts against the surface 105 so as to urge the element 95 loosely into engagement with the opposing surfaces of the tool in the body 88 and, of course, also with the interior surface of the tool. sleeve 99 containing the closure element.

   It has been found that the invention constituted in practice

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 a very effective device making it possible to quickly establish communication between the supply of cleaning fluid and the passage of a tool and also so as to quickly and effectively form a seal between these parts.
