Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

    @ Dans la variante représentée sur les Figs. 4 et 5, le

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  Brick press.

   The present invention relates to a semi-automatic brick press, which is particularly suitable for the manufacture of bricks using compact clays, which are not suitable for work. in screw extruders which require fluid clays otherwise they will become blocked by waterlogging.

   This drawback does not occur in the brick press according to the invention, which comprises a piston pushing at each stroke a quantity of clay corresponding to a brick, in a molding passage at the exit of which a guillotine, actuated in synchronism with the piston, each time cut a brick of the clay rod molded in the corridor. As compact as the clay is, no clogging can occur thanks to the reciprocating movement of the piston which clears the corridor.

   The movement of the piston is also used to admit into the corridor the exact quantity of clay to be pushed back with each stroke.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

  For this purpose, a feed hopper surmounting the passage constitutes at its lower part an airlock, formed between a slide actuated by the piston, and the piston itself. By advancing in its discharge stroke, the piston closes the airlock and opens the drawer, while by moving back it closes the drawer and then opens the airlock so that the clay admitted into the latter by the opening of the drawer, falls into. the hallway. The capacity of the airlock, corresponding to the quantity of clay needed for a brick, is advantageously adjustable so that bricks of different sizes can be produced with the same press.

   In order for the clay to descend safely into the airlock, a pickaxe is provided in the feed hopper, actuated by the piston at the same time as the drawer. The stroke of the spool and the picker only corresponds to a part of that of the piston, which means that a special transmission must be used. It is carried out very simply by means of hooked connecting rods, guided so as to unhook from the piston during the part of the stroke which the latter performs alone.

   These features of the invention and others will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the press. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 shows in side elevation, partly in section, a brick press mounted on a cart, and
Figs. 2 and 3 are views of this press on a larger scale, taken along line II-II and line III-III, respectively, of FIG. 1.

   Fig. 4, shows, in plan, a variant of the press piston, and
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of a variant of the control of the spool and the picker by the piston.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The brick press shown in Figs. 1 to 3 comprises a frame 1 mounted on wheels 2, to be easily transportable. This frame 1 carries an electric motor 3 driving by a belt 4 a large pulley 5 on the axis of which is wedged a pinion 6 driving a toothed wheel 7. From this, the movement is transmitted by a crank 8 and a connecting rod 9 to a lever 10 articulated at 11 on the frame and carrying a curved piston 12 as well as a cross member 13.

   The piston 12 moves in reciprocating motion in a molding passage 14, under a feed hopper 15 into which the clay to be briquetted is poured with a shovel or by any suitable means.

   The lower part of the hopper constitutes an airlock 16, separated from the upper part 15 by a drawer 17 which is carried by an axis 18 and guided horizontally by a pair of rods 18 'fixed on the axis 18. On the latter s' articulate, on the one hand, a pair of levers 19 attacking the axis 20, journaled at 21, of a digger 22 passing through slots 23 in the hopper 15 and, on the other hand, a pair of connecting rods 24 terminated by hooks 25.

   At the start of its penetration stroke in the corridor 14, the piston 12 pushes back inside the corridor the clay admitted by the airlock 16 and begins to close the orifice of the latter towards the corridor, after which the cross member 15 enters. in engagement with the hooks 25 and the continuation of the movement of the piston causes, by means of the connecting rods 24, the opening of the spool 17 and the lowering of the pick 22, as is shown in phantom in FIG. 1. Under the action of the digger, the clay contained in the hopper 15 fills the airlock 16, open at the top by the drawer 17 and closed at the bottom by the piston 12.

   By withdrawing from the corridor 14, the piston 12 drives, in the first part of its stroke, by means of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 connecting rods 24 hooked to the cross member 13, the slide 17 which closes and the pick 22 which goes up, until the moment when the cross member 13 is released from the hooks 25 because its path around the joint 11 is curved, while that of the connecting rods 24 is rectilinear. The piston continues its stroke alone, uncovering the orifice of the airlock 16, the contents of which fall into the passage 14, to be discharged inside the passage on the next stroke of the piston.

   As the montmntles Figs. 1 and 2, the airlock 16 is made in two parts, the spacing of which can be adjusted by changing the number of spacers 26 threaded onto the connecting bolts 27, which results in modifying the capacity of the airlock according to the thickness of the bricks to be made, the airlock containing just the amount of clay needed to make a brick.

   The successive quantities of clay pushed back by the piston into the passage 14 are molded there into a rod of rectangular section which, if the clay is too dry, can be humidified in the last part of the passage, forming a humidifier 28 supplied with water through a reservoir 29, a tap 30 and a funnel 31.

   With each stroke of the piston, the clay rod progresses 1-'thickness of a brick, and a guillotine 32, actuated using cables 33 by the lever 10 of the piston, cuts a brick 34 from the end. sausage coming out of the corridor on an apron 35,
Guided vertically by uprights 36 (Fig. 3) the guillotine 32, returned upwards by springs 37 and pulled down by the cables 33 passing over return pulleys 38 and attached at 39 to the lever 10, is actuated by the latter on each return stroke of the piston 12. It automatically cuts the bricks to the desired thickness, this thickness being determined by adjusting the capacity of the airlock 16.

    @ In the variant shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 piston 12 'is guided horizontally on the frame 1' by a slide 40 and rails 41, so that its path is straight. On the other hand, the connecting rods 24 'with hooks 25' are bent and guided so as to move along a curved path to allow the hooking and unhooking of the cross member 13 'integral with the piston.

   Obviously still other variants are possible, and it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiments chosen by way of example, to which modifications can be made without departing from its scope.
