 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Description générale --------------------

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

   Description détaillée ---------------------

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 13>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 14>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 15>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 16>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 17>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 18>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 19>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 20>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 21>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 23>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 24>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 26>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 27>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 28>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 29>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 30>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 31>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 32>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 34>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 35>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 36>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 37>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 38>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 39>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 40>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 41>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 42>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 43>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 44>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 45>

  Jonction sortante

 <Desc/Clms Page number 46>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 47>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 48>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 49>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 50>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 51>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 52>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 53>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 54>

 relais 500.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 55>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 56>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 57>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 58>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 59>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 60>

 lais 7u6.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 61>

 retombent.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 62>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 63>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 64>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 65>

  "Telephone system"
The present invention relates to telephone systems and more particularly to switching systems for automatically interconnecting equipment units for telephone communications and surveillance.

   Switching systems that automatically answer incoming telephone calls include coupling structures for connecting units of equipment that serve as either transmission paths or control equipment to establish a telephone link. . The couplings used for 'the transmission channels for telephone links

  <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 are held in place for the duration of the telephone call. Other couplings used to temporarily connect equipment units to one another were released after the connected equipment had performed its function of setting switches or other equipment units to. establish a telephone connection.

   In the latter method of operation, it is often necessary to recall the services of the same or a similar coupling in the same coupling group one or more times for monitoring purposes after a telephone link has been established. The selection and operation of couplings for monitoring purposes constitutes a delay in the continuity of telephone service which can be avoided by the present invention.

   An object of this invention is therefore to provide channels comprising a coupling between equipment involved in a telephone connection and an operator position, which can be automatically or manually blocked for the monitoring of particular categories of communications. telephones and automatically or manually released when the telephone communication category requires little or no supervision from the operator position
A feature of this invention consists of a system for selecting and activating a free coupling answering an incoming call on a trunk line in order to connect the trunk line to a channel of an operator position,

   connecting the incoming trunk line to an outgoing trunk line and controlling the blocking or release of the coupling and the route responding to signals registering the category of incoming and outgoing trunk lines involved in the telephone links.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   A different and related feature of this invention is a system for selecting and activating a free coupling answering an incoming call on a trunk line to connect the trunk line to a channel of an attendant position, to transmit signals between the junction line and the position channel, to adjust a control unit from the dialer position to automatically establish a telephone call and to automatically control the blocking or release of the coupling and of the channel responding to signals recorded in the control unit.

     A different and related peculiarity consists of an automatic control system of the blocking or release of the coupling and the track by transmitting category signals, from the trunk line to the control unit, responding to the connection of the coupling with the position channel and responding to the connection of the control unit to the position circuit.

   A different and related feature is a system of manual control of coupling and track blocking at trunk line connection for the duration of the call or coupling release and track thereof.

   Another feature is a callback responsive means on an established link to signal to the same operator on a blocked link or to call a free operator where the link has been released.

   These and other features will be discussed in more detail in the description which follows. of the invention
To illustrate the particularities, reference may be made to the appended drawings in which:

   General description --------------------
Inbound trunks at a long distance office vary in their transmission characteristics and also vary in character. Intermediate or terminating trunks with a circuit call from a remote trunk office operate using AC signals. Other long distance offices may make use of the auxiliary line calling system with automatic listening for the incoming operation, transmitting direct current signals to excite the incoming junctions of a remote office.

   There are other junctions known as dial operated interurban junctions which operate by means of pulse transmission systems automatically actuating an apparatus in a machine switched control office. In consideration of this, the junctions involved in long distance communication require different signaling means of the categories of service depending on the character of the junction.

   A signal transmission apparatus is included in each of these junctions to indicate to the associated apparatus of a self-operating long distance office the type of the junction connected to that apparatus, so that junctions of the same type may or may not be connected to each other for transmission purposes, and to determine whether monitoring of the telephone communication is required. Interurban trunk junctions of the same or different types are connected to each other along the length of the interconnected city junctions to establish a telephone call.

   It is therefore necessary that the connection apparatus be guided as to the category

  <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 inter-city junction line and the transmission characteristics of the two interconnected junctions. In the disclosed system, this indication is automatically provided in response to connecting an inbound trunk to the connection apparatus and in response to registrations for choosing an outbound trunk to a local or remote office.

   A call from a remote office activates the apparatus of the receiving trunk office by signals, which automatically energize the apparatus of a coupling to connect the trunk trunk as described in Figs. 1 and 2 to a long-distance operator position without cords, as described in Figs. 7,10 and 11. A free coupling channel is chosen by energizing the coupling control circuit of Fig. 6 which chooses a free channel, Fig. 4, entering one of the wireless long distance operator positions.

  Usually several lanes are entered in each position. Each channel is connected to a secondary coupling switch such as 302 or 303. These are interconnected to a set of several primary coupling switches available to the calling terminating junctions.

  By means of cross-wiring, these secondary switches can be associated, via one of the primary switches of a set of these, with the incoming puncture which calls, a free channel of a position which can thus be actuated by the coupling control circuit, FIG. 6, and be connected by this coupling control circuit via a secondary and primary coupling switch which are also actuated by the coupling control circuit. In operation, the switches of the coupling connect the track apparatus to the circuit apparatus of the calling terminating junction, causing the apparatus to be energized.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 reil both in the track circuit and in the circuit of the calling incoming junction.

   The excitation of this device has a successive interaction effect, E which regulates the circuit of the incoming trunk inter-trunk junction, Figs. 1 and 2, and adjusts the track device, Fig. 4, and the apparatus of the position, Figs. 7, 10 and 11 with a view to successive cooperating signals.

  The track and position circuit apparatus is set to receive trunk category signals from the incoming trunk circuit. The incoming junction circuit is set to pass these signals. Operation of the device from the position advances to a point where signals are given to the cordless trunk operator position, including an auditory signal to indicate to that operator the character of the call at which it must be answered.

   The position control circuit device, Fig. 5 and 8, is energized including a start circuit for the recorder-sender 900. The recordings are made in the recorder-sender by the long distance operator without cables according to the given code designations. to this by the party requesting extension 100. The recorder-sender energizes a marker connector 901 to associate a free tag with it, which receives the callsign records from the recorder-sender covering the office or the extension long distance to which the call is to be directed, the type of trunk lines, the category of the call, and the type and category of the incoming trunk.

   The records are used to choose an outgoing trunk from a particular direction having the characteristics required for the typical line connection to be established.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

   Circuit combinations are made in the marker by the apparatus operated in accordance with the foregoing records which control operations in the recorder-sender and the position control circuit, when the marker is returning to idle. The energized circuits determine whether a coupling and a channel must be placed in connection between the incoming trunk and the device of the channel of the position for the duration of the telephone conversation or if this device must be released. When supervision is to be maintained on a telephone call during the talk period, circuits are established in the position control circuit to energize a particular relay in the circuit of the incoming junction.

   The energization of the last relay establishes a blocking circuit for the coupling and a blocking circuit for a particular device in a channel of the position which is associated with that coupling connection. The position channel and the coupling are thus blocked in order to maintain the monitoring of the telephone communication. Energizing the device in the position control circuit by a circuit combination in the marker also energizes a relay in the incoming junction when no monitoring is required. In this case the channel and coupling switches are released and can be associated with other incoming junctions to serve other incoming calls.

   When the coupling is blocked to one channel, a single relay in the channel is kept energized to associate signaling paths between the position and the circuit of the incoming junction, so that signals from the trunk operator position can - can be given at any time, either when the calling party or the called party requires attention

  <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 of the long distance operator without cords. When the coupling is not blocked to one channel, the relay energized in the incoming junction allows either the calling party or the called party to activate a free coupling to attract the attention of a free attendant.

   In addition to the device serving to automatically block a coupling and a channel from the marker, a second arrangement is used to manually block the coupling and the channel by energizing a key of the position which energizes relays manually performing the action automatically performed by the marker. True blocking of coupling is carried out only after completion by the marker of selection of the incoming junction and setting of switches for the connection between this outgoing junction and the outgoing junction. As before, the marker during its return to standby energizes the device which closes circuits with a view to blocking the coupling by energizing specific relays in the position control circuits.

   This manner of blocking the coupling manually is placed under the control of the marker so that the operations of the apparatus are carried out in a suitable order.

   Detailed description ---------------------
In the present description, the remote office 100 is connected to the automatic long distance office illustrated in the drawings, Figs. 1 to 11, inclusive, by / trunk a trunk interline junction with call on the circuit, which is excited by the inrush current transmission from office 100 over conductors 135 and 136 at the incoming junction, Figs. 1 and 2 . After the remote operator at office 100 has finished setting up the device for connection, this inrush current is

  <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

 applied automatically or manually to conductors 135 and 136, and is transmitted through the winding of ac relay 103, energizing this relay.

   Activation of relay 103 drops relay 104 which is normally energized in a circuit comprising the battery, coil of relay 104, contact of relay 103, and earth. Releasing relay 104 establishes a circuit for actuating the relay of incoming junction 202 in a circuit comprising: the battery, the coil of relay 202, contact 2 of relay 104, contact 7 of relay 117, contact 6 of relay 203 and earth. By operating the relay 202 establishes for itself a blocking circuit which comprises: the contact 3 of the relay 202, the contact 7 of the relay 117, the contact 6 of the relay 203 and the earth. When the inrush current is removed from the junction conductors 135 and 136, the relay 103 drops out, which re-energizes the relay 104.

  A circuit is therefore established for relay 113 which comprises: the battery, the winding of relay 113, contact 5 of relay 112, contact 2 of relay 104, contact 3 of relay 202, contact 7 of relay 117, contact 6 of relay 203 and earth. Relay 113 is blocked by contact 4 of relay 201, contact 5 of relay 113, to its control ground applied to contact 6 of relay 203. Operation of relay 113 now establishes a turn-on circuit for coupling. which associated the incoming trunk and the attendant at office 100 with the cordless operator whose telephone apparatus is shown in FIG. 11 of this description.

  This coupling activation circuit includes:
1 earth applied to contact / of relay 114, contact 2 of relay 113, contact 1 of relay 112, conductor 320, contact of relay 312, the coil of the start relay of the coupling 311 and the battery. The

  <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 of the circuit @ coupling connector and coupling control is shown schematically.

   Coupling connector
Energizing the coupling 311 on relay establishes an obvious circuit for a coupling connector selection relay 316, which operates a multi-contact relay such as 317 to connect a large number of conductors from the coupling. 'a control circuit of a free coupling, FIG. 6, to the incoming junction circuit, Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, to a number of interurban positions, FIG. 4, and to a number of switches, FIG. 3.

   There are a number of coupling control circuits, Fig. 6, which are small compared to the large number of switches, Fig. 3, and the large number of position channels, Fig. 4. Therefore, it is necessary for a coupling connector to find a free coupling control circuit before operating the multiple contact relay 317 to link the different units together. Switches 300 and 301 represent a single horizontal level in two verticals of a primary coupling crossbar switch connected to an incoming trunk circuit.

   The co-mutators 302 and 303 are called secondary switches and there are a large number of these which are connected to a large number of tracks in a number of interurban positions without cords. Those shown belong to different horizontal levels on different verticals of the same crossbar switches or different crossbar switches. The function of the coupling control circuit is to try a number of paths associated with a number of trunk locations without leads to obtain.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 13>

 ne a free channel as well as the services of the interurban operator in the cordless position, to which this channel is connected.

   Considering that each channel is connected, at a different horizontal level to secondary switches, such as 302 and 303, the channel test determines which secondary switch to use.

  Each incoming junction appears on at least one horizontal level of a primary coupling switch, which can be reached from different secondary coupling switches by different verticals on that primary coupling switch. The holding electromagnets for the primary and secondary switches which constitute a channel, are multiple linked as shown and work together. A free path in a position having an operator who monitors, has the battery applied to conductor 340 and earth applied to conductor 341. Earth is placed on conductor 341 by the operation of relay 401 activated when relay 701 is activated. . Relay 701 is only activated when an attendant serves the position without leads.

   The circuit for the relay 701 therefore comprises: the battery, the winding of the relay 701, the contact 1 of the individual channel relays 421, 420 and 422 normal, the jack 1104 whose contact is closed when the plug 1106 of the headphones operator's telephone is inserted, the key 505, the earth applied to contact 1 of relay 500. There are on relay 401 as many contacts as there are channels in the position and consequently, its operation frees all the channels which are not in use. Releasing this relay makes all the tracks occupied. This will appear in the description of the track equipment.

  Coupling and coupling control circuit.

   The coupling control circuit, Fig. 6, is used to choose a free lane from among the many lanes entering the trunk positions without cords. The control circuit is associated with the channels which are connected to certain levels of the secondary crossbar switches shown in the right part of Fig.3.

  These control circuits are arranged in an incoming group arranged to serve the calling incoming junctions for testing the position channels and for operating the switches which connect a calling incoming junction to a free channel. The operation of the activation relay 311 establishes circuits to energize a connector unit to control the association of a calling incoming junction with a free coupling control circuit. Switches 300 and 301 include part of a primary coupling switch. Each switch of this type usually has ten separate levels and a large number of verticals.

   In this example, only one is shown which is arranged to connect the incoming calling junction to a secondary switch by actuation of a selection electromagnet and a holding electromagnet. In practice, the incoming trunk can be associated with various secondary switches 302 and 303 by a number of different verticals on the primary switch, making a variety of device choices for extending a call from the incoming trunk. at the switchboard in the intercity office switchboard. Secondary switches 302 and 303 can be on a single crossbar switch or on separate crossbar switches as desired

  <Desc / Clms Page number 15>

 connection that best suits the purpose.

   The points shown of the secondary switches can therefore be considered as a level of any vertical to a single cross-bar switch or as a level of a vertical on any one of several bar switches. crossed.

   The multiple contact relay 313 and the multiple contact relay 317 together with the relays shown in the lower part of Fig. 3 constitute an arrangement to give an incoming junction several choices for obtaining the services of a circuit. coupling control, Fig. 6, which can be associated with it by the operation of the multiple contact relay 317. The control circuit associated with a relay, such as 317, must appear free on test, before being entered. There are several multiple contact relays 313 for each incoming trunk circuit. All of these relays are connected to a number of relays 317 which are interconnected when wired as shown. There are multiple relays such as 317 for each connector extending between the contacts of relays 313 and 317.

   Each control circuit has a representative relay in each connector, so that any of the control circuits can be associated when free with any of the connectors between a group of junctions and the circuits. control . Activation of the start relay 311 by a previously established circuit from the incoming junction initiates the selection of a free control circuit. First, a circuit is established which includes the battery, resistor 310, the switch-on relay contact 311, the coil of the relay 316, and the earth or a chain of relays such as 316. is used to prevent the operation of a connection

  <Desc / Clms Page number 16>

 by more than one junction and for the selection of a free control circuit.

   When the control circuits associated with these relays are busy, no circuit is established for the relay. Energizing relay 316 establishes a control circuit for multi-contact relay 317 to acquire a free co-range control circuit.

   As stated previously, the organization of the switching arrangement of the coupling and of the control circuit is such that a choice is made among a large number of channels. In certain cases, a certain number of free channels are simultaneously associated with the control circuit and only one of these is chosen. The selection is made by a chained circuit in a secondary switch level selection circuit 604 in which there are a number of relays equivalent to the number of channels which are tried.

  Relay 605 represents one channel. This relay, however, represents a combination of switches associated with different channels, such as secondary switch 302 and primary switch 300 or switch 303 and primary switch 301, each combination being associated with a different channel. Likewise, a number of verticals on the primary switch are connected to verticals on a number of secondary coupling switches. The verticals of the secondary coupling switches each have a certain number of horizontal levels connected to different position channels.

   The vertical hold electromagnet of the primary coupling switch and the vertically hold electromagnet of a secondary coupling switch are in multiple, so that they can be actuated simultaneously. . Operation of any of the 605 relays indicates

  <Desc / Clms Page number 17>

 that they are associated with a free channel and the preferred free channel in the relay chain such as 605, is taken for connection. In practice, there are as many contacts on the driver's relay 314 as there are channels which are connected to the control circuit, Fig. 6.

   These relays are actuated to associate the track equipment with the control circuit in order to energize the control circuit device with a view to choosing the free track and in order to test this free track by the 'intermediate the contacts of relay 315. This last test is really a secondary or double test to ensure that the channel is not seized by another control circuit immediately after being found free by the control circuit. command which is being described.

   The operation of any particular relay, such as 605, determines the secondary switch level to which the chosen free channel is connected and, accordingly, the control circuit can energize the combination of switches consisting of primary and secondary switches for connect the incoming junction to the chosen channel.

   A group of couplings and coupling control circuits serve a number of groups of junctions which can be viewed as subgroups of junctions within a larger group. When a particular junction in a sub-group of junctions operates a coupling circuit, it is necessary to identify the sub-group to which it is associated. The coupling control circuit is therefore provided with a number of relays 608 equivalent to the number of subgroups of junctions served by the contacts of the associated connector relays. In this example, it can be assumed that a circuit is established for group relay 608 to show the subgroup of junctions requiring service. A

  <Desc / Clms Page number 18>

 Circuit is now established for relay 313 belonging to this subgroup.

   There are a number of junctions in each sub-group served by the same start relay 311. These are represented in the control circuit by a number of relays, such as relay 600. It will be recalled that a start earth was placed on conductor 320 of the incoming junction, when the start circuit was established. This earth operated relay 311, but at the same time extends earth through a number of contacts on relay 312 and a number of contacts on relay 313. There are as many contacts on relay 312 and relay 313. that there are junctions in a subgroup. This quantity of relays are represented by a contact on relay 312 and contact 5 on relay 313.

   There are as many junction relays 600 as there are junctions in the sub-group, all of these being originally actuated from the start earth extending through one of the contacts on the relay 312 and relay 313. The operation of these relays associates the earth by a chain circuit, as shown on contact 2 of relay 600, contact 6 of relay 313, the winding of relay 312, up to the battery. Energizing relay 312 will drop start relay 311 and open the conductors coming from all junctions except the calling incoming junction. The start earth therefore extends through one contact only of relay 313 through the winding of a relay 600 representing the calling incoming junction. This relay remains actuated and the relays associated with the other junctions are released.

   The relay 600 is blocked by the control circuit followed to the blocking earth.

  Relay operation establishes the level of a primary switch to which the incoming junction is connected and

  <Desc / Clms Page number 19>

 Immediately establishes a circuit for the selector magnet 304 for that level of the primary switch. The circuit includes: the battery, relay contact 1 600, relay 317 contact 2, selector coil 304, and earth. The earth operation of the selection electromagnet 304 connects 7, '. by its contact and by contact 3 of relay 317, the winding of control circuit relay 601, to the battery, energizing the latter relay. Operation of relay 600 now establishes a circuit to determine the category of service required by the incoming junction.

   This category of service is determined by the operation of one of several relays, such as relay 603, in the control circuit. Since in this case only one category is required, a circuit is established, as shown, for relay 603, passing through the circuit device of the incoming junction. This circuit includes: earth, contact 4 of relay 600, contact 7 of relay 317, contact 3 of relay 313, conductor 330, contact 9 of relay 202 of the incoming junction circuit which is actuated, the conductor 331, contact 4 of relay 313, contact 8 of relay 317, the winding of the relay of category 603 and the battery. The operation of this relay connects the battery by its contact, the contact 11 of the relay 317, the contact 7 of the relay 313, the winding of the relay 314, to earth.

   As said previously, there are as many contacts on relay 314 as there are channels associated with the control circuit. A free control circuit establishes circuits for one or more relays, such as 605, in the control circuit. This circuit includes: the battery, the coil of relay 605, contact 13 of relay 317, contact of relay 314, conductor 341, contact 2 of relay 411, and applied earth

  <Desc / Clms Page number 20>

 to contact 1 of relay 401. The establishment of this circuit indicates a free channel in a switchboard position monitored by an operator since, as previously described, the relay 401 is actuated only when the attendant monitors the circuits in the switchboard position.

   Operation of relay 605 establishes a circuit to actuate dual test relay 315 as shown from the battery by contact 1 of relay 605, contact 14 of relay 317, winding of relay 315 and ground. . Since relay 605 is specific to the selected free channel, the control circuit test circuit is applied to the device for that channel. This test circuit comprises a delicate apparatus which can operate if two control circuits are associated with the same channel.

   This test circuit has been limited to relay 610 which is now associated with the free channel by a circuit from the 24 volt battery through its winding, contact 4 of relay 605, contact 15 of relay 317, contact of relay 315, lead 340, to the 48 volt battery connected to contact 1 of track relay 411. Operation of relay 605 also establishes a circuit for the associated selector solenoid at the secondary switch. connected to this free channel. This circuit comprises: the battery, contact 3 of relay 605, contact 4 of relay 317, by earth by the selector electromagnet 318. The operation of the selector solenoid connects the circuit. earth by its contact, contact 5 of relay 317, relay 602, to the battery.

   Operation of relay 610 indicates that no obstacle has been encountered in the selection of the free channel and establishes a circuit for relay 606. All the elements to be used / have now been tested and the mechanism which their is

  <Desc / Clms Page number 21>

 partner, excited. The operation of the selection electromagnets of the primary and secondary switches energizes the relays 601 and 602. The test of the channel associated with the secondary switch was made by the energized relay 606. A circuit can therefore be established at this. moment to energize the holding electromagnets of this switch combination to connect the incoming junction to the chosen channel.

   This circuit comprises: earth, contacts of relays 602 and 601, contact of relay 606, contact 2 of relay 605, contact 6 of relay 317, contact 2 of relay 313, holding electromagnets 305 and 307, and the battery. The energization of the secondary switch 302, establishes a circuit for the track relay 411, comprising: the battery, the winding of the relay 411, the contact 3 of the switch 302, the contact 2 of the relay 313, the contact 6 of relay 317, contact 2 of relay 605, contacts of relays 606,601 and 602, and earth, A circuit is also established for relay 410, comprising: the battery, the coil of relay 410, contact 2 of the relay 403, contact 7 of switch 302, contact 7 of switch 300, conductor 321, contact 2 of relay 112, contact 1 of relay 113 and earth.

   Operation of relay 411 dissociates the 48 volt battery from the test circuit ground conductor 340 and connects 7 - to it. This causes a reversal in the control circuit test circuit resetting the relay 610 which is necessary for the release of the control circuit. Operation of relay 411 removes ground from test conductor 341 and this conductor now remains open. This causes the release of relay 605 in the control circuit which enters the release of the control circuit. This control circuit will now be released.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 22>

 ché as soon as the junction activation circuit is opened.

   Position track -------------------
Operation of relay 411 establishes obvious circuits to turn on busy light 407 and guard light 406. Relay 410 establishes an obvious circuit to turn on guard light 409. Operation of both relays 410 and 411 establishes a circuit to energize the channel preference relay 402. There are as many relays, such as 402, as there are channels in a position without leads. These relays, such as 402, 420 and 421 are in a daisy chain circuit to prevent more than one channel being entered at a time or one channel being entered in one position when another channel is connected to the headset. operator.

   The control circuit for relay 402 consists of: battery, coil of relay 402, contact 1 of talk relay 410, contact 3 of relay 411, contact 2 of relay 402, contact 1 of relay 701 and Earth . Other control circuits for the relay 402 are also established by the contact 2 of the monitoring relay 412 when it is actuated or by the contact 4 of the backward relay 413, when the latter relay is actuated. When operating, relay 402 establishes a blocking circuit for itself comprising: the battery, the coil of relay 402, contact 1 of relay 410, contact 3 of relay 411 and earth through its contact. 2.

  This relay also opens the control circuit for the relay 701 extending through its contact 1 and establishes a circuit for the relay 413. The circuit for relay 413 includes: the battery, the winding of the relay 413, the contact 1 of the relay 402, the contact of the opera-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 23>

 trice 1104, the emergency key contact 505, the ccntact 1 of the release relay towards the rear 500 and earth. Releasing relay 701 opens a circuit to cause relay 401 to release, so that all channels in the position are made busy for the length of time required for the attendant to service an incoming call in her position.

   This involves monitoring operations, such as speaking either with a calling party or with a called party or monitoring as explained later. Operation of relay 413 establishes a circuit for controlling relay 403 comprising: earth, contact 4 of relay 412, contact 8 of relay 413, coil of relay 403 and the battery. The relay 413 also modifies the state of the guard lamp 409 by changing it from the steady state to the flashing state through the earth connection from the switch 408 through the filament of the switch. lamp. This flashing signal indicates to the operator of the position that an incoming junction has been connected to a free channel of the position as a preparatory signal prior to an auditory signal given to the operator a fraction of a second later.

   The relay 413 establishes a blocking circuit for the relay 411 and a circuit maintaining the earth by its contact 3 and the contact 4 of the relay 411 for the holding electromagnets 305 and 307. The switches 300 and 302 therefore, no longer depend on the coupling control circuit to maintain their maintenance circuit. Operation of relay 403 closes circuit paths for the conversation and signaling conductors from the junction through the contacts of the switches of the coupling to the device from the position without leads, opens the blocking circuit for the relay 410 which returns to normal and closes a

  <Desc / Clms Page number 24>

 command for relay 404.

   The circuit established for relay 404 includes: earth applied to contact 2 of relay 804 in the position control circuit, contact 3 of relay 705, contact 1 of relay 803, contact 7 of relay 500, contact 10 of relay 403, the winding of relay 404 and the battery. This last relay is blocked at its control earth. Operation of relay 403 now energizes relay 112 in the incoming junction circuit to open the coupling start circuit extending to relay 600 of the coupling control circuit. The circuit for relay 112 includes: earth, contact 1 of relay 504, contact 1 of relay 503, contact 6 of relay 403, contact 12 of switches 302 and 300, conductor 332, contact 2 of relay 117, contact 3 and the winding of relay 112, and the battery.

   The relay 112 establishes for itself a blocking circuit. to earth applied to contact 6 of relay 203 by a circuit comprising: contact 4 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 104, contact 3 of relay 202 and contact 7 of relay 117. Operation of relay 112 removes the start-up earth of the conductor 320 which extends through its contact 1 and causes the release of the relay 600 in the coupling control circuit. Releasing relay 600 causes releasing of relay 608 which causes relay 313 to drop out. Releasing relay 313 opens the blocking circuit for relay 316 which drops out, and on falling causes relay 317 to drop. Relays 313 and, 317 open the circuit to all relays in the coupling connector and coupling control circuits.

   The coupling connector and coupling control circuits can now serve other calls.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 25>

 entering the telephone office. As previously stated, a ground is provided from the position circuit to keep the hold electromagnets 305 and 307 energized and therefore the connection of switches between the position path and the junction remains established.

   Category of junction signals.

   ---------------------------------
The energization of the previously described relay 413 in one of the ways connects the earth from its contact 1 by the winding of the position relay 702 to the battery. The operation of this latter relay connects the earth through its contact 2, contact 5 of relay 500, contact 1 of category relays 1117 and 1119 to the battery via the winding of the category 709 relay.

  The relay 709 operates and connects the conductors 715 and 716 through its contacts 1 and 2 to the windings of the category relays 1121, 1122, 1123 and 1124 to the battery, passing through the resistors 1125 and 1126, respectively, thus starting the category determination. Earth from contact 2 of relay 702 also extends through contact 5 of relay 500, contact 3 of relay 709, coil of relay 710, to the battery. Relay 710 opens conductors! 710 and 719 extending to the operator's telephone circuit and establishes a control circuit for relay 711, comprising: battery, coil of relay 711, contact 1 of relay 710 , contact 5 of relay 500, contact 2 of relay 702 and earth. While operating, relay 711 establishes a blocking circuit through its contact 6 to the control earth.

   Category signals are passed to the position circuit so that the recorder-sender and the position marker can be guided by the type of the inbound trunk inter-trunk connected to them. The incoming junctions that are connected

  <Desc / Clms Page number 26>

 in the cordless position for long distance or termination communications can be of the type with call on the circuit or with call on the auxiliary lines with automatic listening of the incoming operator, from long distance offices remote or from tandem offices and may vary in transmission characteristics.

   For example an inter-city inter-trunk outgoing trunk must be chosen by the marker for an anpel originating from a distant trunk office which will be directed outgoing to another trunk office. On the other hand, if a call is made for a communication which may extend from a long distance office to that long distance office and terminate in a local subscriber station, it is not necessary to employ a interurban junction having equivalent transmission characteristics as used for the intermediate connection.

  There are also junctions which have these characteristics with regard to transmission qualities, but which have different signaling devices such as, for example, the difference in signals between the inter-trunk trunk with call on the auxiliary lines, and automatically listening to the operator on arrival and the inter / interurban junction with call on the circuit.

  The category signal in each case indicates the type of the junction by the association of a grounded circuit which may or may not have resistance in series with it, and open circuits in various combinations with category relays. . These are connected, from the junction circuit, Fig. 2, by the contacts of relay 201 or a similar relay in a different inter-trunk trunk circuit, for

  <Desc / Clms Page number 27>

 the conductors 333 and 334 passing through the cross-bar switches of FIG. 3, contacts 7 and 8 of relay 403 to category relays 1121, 1122, 1123 and 1124. These relays are marginal and therefore operate on resistance in series with the excitation circuit. Below are examples of some of the combinations made.

   If an earthed resistor is connected to conductor 333 and if conductor 334 remains open, relay 1121 operates, which energizes relay 1117. This latter relay is energized in a circuit comprising: the battery, the winding of relay 1117, the contact of relay 1121, contact 11 of relay 711 and earth. When operating, relay 1117 locks at its control ground. When the conductor 333 is connected directly to the earth, without there being any resistance in series with it, the relays 1121 and 1122 are activated which causes the operation of the relays 1117 and 1118, both locking. to earth applied to conract 11 of relay 711.

   The same combination is used where relay 334 is either connected directly to earth ground or through the resistor set to @, which activates relay 1123 in one case and both relays 1123 and 1124 in the other. case. This causes either relay 1119 or both relays 1119 and 1120 to be energized, which block in the same way as described for relays 1117 and 1118. Different combinations are used everywhere to indicate the characteristics of the different junctions. These indications are transmitted later to the sending register and to the marker and are used to establish circuits as will be described later.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 28>

   Split relay ------------------
Note that when any category determination is made, the control circuit for category relay 709 is opened by operation of relay 1117 or relay 1119, which causes relay 709 to release. The latter is a slow release relay, in order to allow the necessary time for the category determination. On falling, relay 709 activates relay 706 and drops relay 710.

  The circuit for relay 706 includes: earth, contact 5 of relay 711, contact 5 of relay 709, contact 6 of relay 500, coil of relay 706 and battery. During the previous operations, a ver. The connection is made to the earth-holding socket provided for the incoming junction circuit, when relay 202 was actuated as previously described.

  If this earth has been suitably associated with the socket conductor, a circuit is established for relay 708 comprising: the battery, the windings of relays 708 and 707 in series, contact 6 of relay 504, contact 6 of relay 516, contact 5 of relay 801, contact 4 of relay 803, contact 7 of relay 413, contact 9 of the coupling switches, Fig. 3, conductor 329, contact 9 of relay 201, contact 4 of relay 202 and earth. Relay 708 is blocked to earth applied to contact 8 of relay 711. This holding earth is later used to hold the holding electromagnets of the actuated switches on a connection that has been made, when split relay 201 is activated to speak to the called party.

  Relay 707 is a polarized relay and does not energize, unless the tracked circuit is associated with a connection that has already been made. If this circuit is associated with an established connection, the battery will energize through the holding electromagnets of the

  <Desc / Clms Page number 29>

 switches, relay 707 to earth applied to contact 8 of relay 711 or to earth applied to contact 2 of relay 706. When this relay is energized, a circuit is established for relay 800 comprising: the contact of relay 707, contact 4 of relay 711, contact 2 of relay 710, contact 5 of relay 500, contact 2 of relay 702 and earth. In operation, relay 800 provides a ground to the position circuit to ignite lamp 1010 to show that the position is associated with established communication.

   Relay 707 is also used in connection with releasing the device from position. While operating, on the previously established circuit, relay 706 associates earth with conductor 717 to actuate split relay 201 of the incoming junction on a circuit comprising: earth, contact 3 of relay 500, contact 1 of relay 706, conductor 717, contact 9 of relay 403, contact 6 of switches 302 and 300, contact 4 of relay 112, the coil of relay 201 and the battery. In operation, relay 201 establishes a hold circuit for relay 113 comprising: the battery, the coil of relay 113, contact 4 of relay 201, and control ground for relay 201.

   Relay 113 remains energized after releasing relay 201 on a circuit comprising: the battery, the winding of relay 113, the continuity contact of relay 201, contact 5 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 104, contact 3 of relay 202, contact 7 of relay 117, contact 6 of relay 203 and earth. This split relay 201 drops out when the conversation between the operator and the calling operator has ceased and part of the device in the position is released. At this time, however, the split relay 201 is actuated to dissociate the inner and front ends of the

  <Desc / Clms Page number 30>

 junction, and associate the anterior end with the circuit of the position without cords, for signaling purposes and for the conversation between the operators.

   The previous relay, such as 404, of the position channel is energized if no other previous relay in the succession circuit is actuated. A circuit for this relay is established as described, when the relays backwards
403 and 413 of the way get excited. Relay 404 establishes a circuit for relay 515 on an obvious circuit, and the latter relay establishes a circuit for relay 705 which connects the front and outer parts of the circuit to the service position to each other. for the same call. The circuit for relay 705 includes: earth, contact 3 of relay 515, contact 3 of relay
803, the winding of the relay 705 and the battery.

   Position signals -------------------
Provision is made for an arrangement of signals which are produced by combinations of relays in the circuit of the position under the control of incoming trunk circuits inter-trunk inter-trunk with call on the circuits.
Figs. 1 and 2, or incoming trunk trunks or other connections which have equipment responding to the various signals transmitted over trunk lines or trunk junctions. The operation of the apparatus of the incoming junction circuit connects the battery in different cases to resistances of different values through the conductor 321 to the position circuit.

   This conductor 321 can be followed up to the position circuit by the contacts
7 of the coupling switches 300 and 302, the contact 2 of the relay 403 and then by the windings of the marginal relays 1014, 1015 and 1016 to earth. The number of these actuated relays depends on the resistance value.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 31>

 which is associated with it in response to calls of a different type. For example, when a new call is represented a new connection to an outgoing trunk junction, the relay 112 is activated which associates the resistor 110 in circuit with the relays 1014, 1015 and 1016. The value of resistor 110 is such that only relay 1014 is actuated.

   This establishes a circuit for relay 1003 from the battery through the winding of this relay, the normal contact of relay 1015, the contact of relay 1014 which is energized, to ground. This indicates that the call to which the cordless attendant should answer is a new call. In this case, the switchgear of the trunk circuit of the position will establish a circuit for relay 1017. In the event of a callback by a calling remote operator, the same circuit will be established, with the exception of the circuit for relay 1017. When recalled, relay 800 in the position control circuit is actuated, and there will be no circuit for relay 1017. Therefore, upon a callback, a circuit is established to turn on the lamp 1010, and a characteristic tone is transmitted to indicate this type of call.

  When a manual callback is made from a called office, circuits are established for the relays 112, 207 and 204 of the circuit of the incoming junction, Figs. 1 and 2.

  The operation of the above three relays connects resistors 222 and 110 in multiples and these multiple resistors are connected in a circuit in series with relays 1014,1015 and 1016. The value of resistor 222 in multiple with resistor 110 is such that it causes the operation of the relays 1014 and 1015. When operating, the two relays 1014 and 1015 establish an obvious circuit for the relay 1002 which turns on the lamp 1011 and sends @ a characteristic tone to the headset. the telephone operator. A different signal is given, when the par-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 32>

 Tied called distant does not answer. In this case, the incoming junction relays 112 and 207 are activated, which connects resistors 221 and 110 in series with relays 1014, 1015 and 1016.

   The value of resistor 221 in multiple with resistor 110 is such that it causes all of the above relays to operate. The operation of these three relays establishes an obvious circuit for the two relays 1002 and 1003 which ignites the lamp 1012 through their contacts and establishes a circuit for a characteristic tone. known
The dial tone circuit, @ under the name Order Tone, is used to indicate to the operator that a particular call has been established, which is either a new call or a callback, or that the desired call has not been made. been established. This tone circuit is established by the operation of relays shown in the left part of FIG. 10, through the control relays 1014, 1015, 1016, 1002 and 1003.

   The operation of relay 1002 or relay 1003 indicates to the operator of the position that the incoming call is from a trunk trunk trunk with call on the circuit and also establishes a characteristic circuit to the marker. When the relays are released, circuits are established to indicate that the call is coming from an inter-city inter-trunk junction with a call on the auxiliary lines and automatic listening on the incoming operator. In the event that both relays are released, three command tone pulses are transmitted to both the far-end attendant and the cordless attendant. When only one of the above relays is activated, the tone will be transmitted only to the operator without cables.

   One tone pulse is transmitted when relay 1002 is actuated and two tone pulses are transmitted.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 33>

 t are transmitted when relay 1003 is energized.

   Position Tone Circuit -------------------------------
The command tone circuit is established from the position control circuit which associated earth to conductor 1029 by contact 4 of relay 1004, conductor 1030, contact 4 of relay 1020, contact 4 of relay 1018 , the winding of relay 1021, to the battery. Relay 1021 is the first in a series of operations to energize and de-energize the tone circuit. This tone circuit comprises: tone source 1022, various contacts of relays 1013, 1018, 1019,1020 and 1021, the right winding of tone transformer 1005 and la. Earth .

   The tone is transmitted inductively through the tone transformer 1005, contacts 1 and 5 of relay 1004 to the conversation conductors, which in one case extend through contacts 1 and 4 of relay 1101 and the windings of the trans. - trainer 1102 by induction, on the operator's headset without cords. As said previously, for certain calls the dial tone is transmitted only to this operator without cables, but when a call is transmitted on a junction with a call on the circuits and automatic listening of the incoming operator, the relays 1002 and 1003 are both released and the tone is transmitted through contacts 1 and 7 of relay 1003, contacts 1 and 8 of relay 1002, thence to the contacts of relays 1001 and 1000, contacts 10 and 11 of relay 413 to the conductors of the junction.

   The sequence of operations of the tone relays is as follows: relay 1021 operates by the earth applied to conductor 1030. As followed previously, this relay establishes by operating a circuit for relay 1020 on the same earth through contact 5 of the relay

  <Desc / Clms Page number 34>

1021 and contact 4 of relay 1019: Operation of relay 1020 closes the tone circuit through its contact 3 from tone source 1022 and tone coil 1005. Relay 1020 is blocked by its contact.
5 and contact 4 of relay 1019 which opens the control circuit for relay 1021 and the latter relay drops out. A circuit is thus established for the relay
1019 by contact 6 of relay 1020 and contact 3 of relay 1021.

   Operation of relay 1019 opens the tone circuit to terminate the first tone pulse. The circuit for relay 1020 is open when relay 1019 operates, causing it to release. A circuit is now established for the relay
1018 by contact 1 of relay 1019 and a blocking circuit is established by its contact 3. This sequence of operations again establishes a control circuit for relay 1021 by contact 6 of relay 1019 and the contact
4 of relay 1020. a second tone pulse is initiated, when the tone circuit is closed again via contact 1 of relay 1021, normal, contact 1 of relay 1020, contact 1 of relay 1018 which is actuated, and by coil 1005 to earth.

   The circuit of relay 1019 was opened by actuation of relay 1021 and returns to idle. Thus, a circuit is established for relay 1020 which is the same as the circuit by which it was actuated previously. A circuit is also established for relay 1013 by contact 2 of relay 1018, which is kept blocked by contact 2 of relay 1020 and contact 1 of relay 1019 to primitive earth, as follows. Relay 1013 is blocked at this same earth. Operation of relay 1020 opens the circuit for relay 1021, causing it to release and opening the tone circuit, which ends the second pulse.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 35>

 tone. A circuit is now established for relay 1019 which is the same as the circuit previously established for this relay.

   This closes the tone circuit for a third tone pulse and opens the circuit for relay 1020. This circuit is the last tone circuit established and includes: tone source 1022, contact 1 of relay 1021, contact 2 of relay 1019, contact 3 of relay 1013, tone coil winding 1005 and ground.

  A relay 1021 is now energized by contact 6 of relay 1019, contact 4 of relay 1020, conductors 1030 and 1029 to earth @. Operation of relay 1021 opens the tone circuit and ends the third tone pulse and also establishes a circuit for relay 1004, through contact 1 of relay 1013, contact 2 of relay 1020, contact 2 from relay 1021 to the original earth. When operating, relay 1004 establishes a blocking circuit for itself through its contact 4 to earth applied to conductor 1029. Operation of relay 1004 separates conductors 1029 and 1030 at its contact 4, thus causing all to drop out. the relays that were maintained at this earth including 1013, 1018, and 1021.

   The foregoing lines describe the operation of the tone circuit to transmit three tones, which is the maximum employed in this circuit arrangement. As explained previously, use is made of three tones, when the inter-call between bath / on a trunk with a call on the circuit and automatic listening on the incoming operator and can indicate a new call on this junction or a callback by the operator of remote origin. A call / incoming from an original attendant on a junction / with a call on the circuit activates the relay

  <Desc / Clms Page number 36>

 1003 either when this call is a new call, or when it is a callback from the original attendant.

   A callback from the called party activates relay 1002 and the called party does not respond to both relays 1002 and 1003 at the same time, but relay 1002 is the only one that controls the tone circuit. In the event of a new call or a callback from the original operator, using an inter-trunk trunk with a call on the incoming circuit, the operation of relay 1003 causes the transmission of a pulse. to the operator without cords. The talk circuit to the incoming junction is open at contacts 1 and 7 of relay 1003 and so this single pulse does not reach the incoming junction. Operation of relay 1003 establishes a circuit for relay 1004 after a pulse is transmitted.

   This circuit includes: the battery, the winding of relay 1004, contact 3 of relay 1002 which is normal, contact 3 of relay 1003 energized, contact 1 of relay 1019 which is energized at this time, conductors 1030 and 1029 , contact 4 of relay 1004 and earth. When operating, relay 1004 separates conductors 1030 and 1029 and is blocked by its contact 4 to conductor 1029.

   As previously stated, operation of relay 1004 drops the tone generation relays and ends tone transmission after a pulse. Operation of relay 1022 on a callback from a called long distance office or from the operator's console causes two impulses to be transmitted to the operator without cords. These impulses do not reach the incoming and outgoing junctions. The energizing of the tone circuit relays / is done as described above until relay 1020 energizes a second time.

   It is therefore established for relay 1004

  <Desc / Clms Page number 37>

 a circuit comprising: the battery, the coil of the relay 1004, the internal contact 3 of the relay 1002, the contact 2 of the relay 1018, the contact 2 of the relay 1020, the contact 2 of the relay 1021, the conductor 1030 and the earth. Relay 1004 opens the tone circuit as previously described and locks by its contact 4 to conductor 1029.

   The above indicates the operations in the circuit of the position of a toll operator without cords, both for a new call coming in at this position as previously described, and for a callback from a remote operator. For this description, it is assumed that the remote trunk operator of trunk office 100 requests a communication with an operator in a remote trunk office via an intermediate trunk inter-city trunk and hence the inter-city trunk. The apparatus of the recorder-sender 900 and of the marker 901 must be actuated in such a way as to actuate the cross-bar switches 282 and 285, to connect the entrained inter-city inter-junction, Figs.

   1 and 2 at an outgoing junction 280 extending to office 281, shown schematically at the right side of Fig. 2. In order to simplify this description, only those elements which come into play in carrying out the operation of this invention have been shown and described.

   Recorder-sender
During the preceding operations, which provide the attendant with a signal indicating that a call has entered the position as well as the type of the incoming call, a circuit is established for the relay 704 to start up 1. 'recorder-sender

  <Desc / Clms Page number 38>

 as soon as certain relays are in the following position: relay 702 energized, relay 500 released, relay 710 released, relay 711 energized, relay 707 released, relay 705 energized and relay 703 released. The establishment of the position of the previous relays was done as described previously.

   The circuit for the recorder-sender turn-on relay 704 therefore comprises: ground la / -. contact 2 of relay 702, contact 5 of relay 500, contact 1 of relay 710, contact 4 of relay 711, contact of relay 7u7, contact 5 of relay 705, contact 2 of relay 703, the winding of relay 704 and the battery.

   Relay 704 is blocked by contact 1 of relay 516, contact 5 of the release relay from position 80 @ to / by contact 2 of relay 515 which was energized by relay 404. Relay operation 704 of the recorder-sender establishes a control circuit for the control relay 925 of the recorder-sender in the recorder-peer-ground 900, from the '/ through contact 3 of the relay 704, the winding of the relay 925 to the battery. Relay 925 activates relay 703 of the battery by its winding, contact 2 of relay 516, the contact of relay 925 to earth. Relay 703 is blocked at this same earth by its contact 1.

   Operation of this latter relay opens the control circuit for the recorder-sender switch-on relay 704 which now remains energized under the control of its blocking circuit which passes through the position release relay. 804. Relay 703 is a delayed release relay to prevent seizure of the recorder-sender too quickly.

   The elements of the position recorder-sender can be divided into roughly, with regard to their

  <Desc / Clms Page number 39>

 roles, in main parts: the keyboard, the recorder circuit, the connector control circuit to associate the connector between the recorder-sender and the marker and the control relays to establish circuits passing through the connector and going towards the marker to control the operations in the apparatus of the marker, all of which are represented diagrammatically by the recorder-sender 900.

   The position recorder-sender is now ready to receive records from the position circuit. When observing a signal from the lamp and receiving an auditory signal indicating the type of anpel to which it must be answered, the cordless inter-city operator calls the remote operator who is in this case an inter-city operator at the inter-office. - urban 100 and receives the code or the code and the numerical designation of a requested part. In certain cases, / it is desired to communicate with another distant long distance office, only the area code number is given to the long distance operator without cords.

  When an incoming call from another long distance office terminates in the network of the long distance office receiving the call, the area code designation and the numeric designation can be given by the calling long distance operator, so that a telephone call can be established in this network by a long distance operator without cords. A wide variety of interconnect combinations between incoming trunks of different character is provided. For this reason, many combinations of call records are required both to indicate the character of the calling terminating trunk and the character of the outgoing trunk required to establish the connection.

   Only device combinations are shown

  <Desc / Clms Page number 40>

 sufficient to produce the operating circuits of the invention.

   The cordless long distance operator manipulates the keys of the nosition keypad to trigger the recorder-sender recorders. These records in the recorder-sender are transferred to the tag after the recorder-sender has energized a tag connector 901 which associates the recorder-sender with a free tag. There are only a small number of markers compared to the large number of recorder-senders in this type of toll office and therefore a marker connector is used to find a marker at this free marker. free and associate / the recorder-sender which has been activated.

   The records are transferred to the marker corresponding to the direction of that connection and the circuit character of the incoming junction calling.

  This understands the character of the outgoing trunk trunk to be used for the connection.

  The previous recordings in the marker are used to establish telephone communication and to control the device from the cordless trunk position, as soon as this communication has been established. This automatically adjusts the circuit of the incoming junction either to arrange circuits in order to place the telephone communication under the constant supervision of the long distance operator without cords by blocking the coupling switches of the channel, or to indicate that this monitoring is not. is not required.

   The call recordings were transferred to the marker from the category recorders in the lower part of the position circuit, Fig. 11, to indicate the category of the junction

  <Desc / Clms Page number 41>

 incoming by the excitation of relays 911, 912 And or 913.

  Energizing relay 912 signals the marker that the calling terminating junction is an incoming intermediate junction with the highest transmission characteristic. The 911 relay energization signals to the marker that the calling terminating junction is a terminal junction.

  When the 911 relay is energized, the telephone call can be extended either to a remote long distance office and terminated there, or extended to a local office in that long distance office's network. An incoming call on an intermediate trunk trunk may terminate at a local office in that trunk office's network. In this case, relay 912 will be energized, to indicate an incoming call on an intermediate inter-trunk trunk and likewise relay 913 will be energized by the sender's registers to indicate the network where the call ends.

  The drive relay 906, along with that of other devices not shown, is made for an intermediate connection with a trunk trunk extending to another remote trunk office. When the incoming trunk trunk is an intermediate trunk trunk and the outgoing trunk is an intermediate trunk trunk, the communication requires monitoring, and therefore the trunk relay energizes a Category 908 relay which establishes a circuit. handset to automatically block a coupling between a positmon channel and the calling terminating junction.

  This circuit, however, is not established until the outgoing intermediate junction has been chosen by the marker and the switching circuits have been established between this free outgoing junction and the incoming junction. appellant.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 42>

   Energizing the 911 relay by category relays and energizing a feeder relay, such as feeder relay 907, establishes a circuit for relay 808 in the logger control circuit. sender instead of relay 806. In this case, the feeder relay energizes the category 909 relay. A circuit is thus established in the trunk position after the communication has been established for non-monitoring of the communication.

  Energizing intermediate relay 912, local relay 913, and terminal feeder relay such as 907 also energizes a circuit for unmonitoring the established communication.

   Assuming that trunk relay 907 identifies a manual termination office, operation of relay 909 also actuates relay 501 to delay release of the circuit from position and coupling until the trunk operator. cordless has passed the number of the desired subscriber to the local operator, and to place the release under the control of the long distance operator without cord.

   Calls to certain other offices cause the operation of a category relay which is similar in function to relay 909, but which does not activate relay 501. In this case, the operator position circuit and the switches of the coupling are automatically released upon releasing the marker and recorder-sender.

   Intermediate connection
An intermediate connection is established between the remote trunk office 100 by this office and a remote trunk office 281, by the excitation of a trunk relay, 906 according to the records established by the operator in the recorder-sender. which are transferred to the

  <Desc / Clms Page number 43>

 marker 905 recorder 902. Operation of this feeder relay causes a group of junctions extending to office 281 to be associated with the marker test apparatus (not shown). This group of junctions is tried and a free junction that extends to the office
281 is chosen. Presumably this is junction 280 which is shown schematically. As soon as this junction is chosen, junction relay 289 is energized by the application of earth from the marker.

   A switch indication is given to the marker corresponding to the position of the switch associated with the calling terminating junction and the selected outgoing junction, and a path is found from the outgoing junction switch 285 to the connected switch 282. at the calling terminating junction. After this route has been found, the switches are energized to connect the incoming junction to the outgoing junction. The position of the switch signaled to the marker causes the excitation of the apparatus for the excitation of the selection electromagnets associated with these switches. The excitation of the selection electromagnet 277 is carried out directly by the apparatus of the marker.

   The energization of the selector solenoid 278 is effected by energizing a relay such as relay 915 in the marker, which must first re-adjust the switchgear position to connect the switch circuit. the selection electromagnet at the marker. Operation of relay 915 establishes a circuit for relay 801 in the position control circuit to associate the selector solenoid with the marker. A battery circuit is then established by contact 2 of relay 915, contact 3 of relay 801, contact 7 of relay 404, contact 10 of switches 302 and 300, contact 7 of relay 113, the winding of the 'é-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 44>

 selection electromagnet 278, to earth.

   A circuit is then established in the marker to energize the holding electromagnets of all switches involved in this link, such as the holding electromagnets 275 and 276. A second circuit for the holding electromagnets is then established by the switch. closing of the switch contacts on conductor 286 either from earth through contact 4 of relay 202 and contact 9 of relay 201, or on conductor 329 from the position circuit, as previously followed. This keeps the hold-over electromagnets in service by the switch contacts after the marker has been released and also keeps relay 289 energized after the marker has been released.

   After the above circuits have been established, a relay such as 251 in a mating connector, associated with the marker, is energized, which associates ground with relay 910 to signal to the marker that the selection and testing of the junction as well as the operation of the switches have been carried out properly. Relay 910 de-energizes relay 915, which opens the circuit for selector electromagnets 277 and 278 and opens the excitation circuit for relay 801 which drops out.

   The operation of relay 910 partially establishes a circuit for relay 914, which is closed when de-energize circuits are established in the marker In the de-energize operation, the marker energizes relay 914 which establishes a circuit for the relay. sender 926 in recorder-900, to provide a signal that the marker has performed its functions satisfactorily. If the recorder-sender has no other functions to perform, the operation of these relays at the same time as that of other relays will cause the release of the recorder-sender 900.

  Outgoing junction
Connection of the outgoing function through the contacts of the switches actuates the outgoing junction by first energizing relay 290 on the ring conductor. The circuit for this relay comprises: the battery, the winding of this relay and its contact 1, the winding of the delay coil 287, the ring conductor of the cross-bar switches 285 and 282, the coil delay 224, contact 8 of relay 202, the driver
327, contact 8 of coupling switches 300 and 302, contact 9 of relay 404, contact 5 of relay 516, contact of relay 514, contact 4 of relay 801, right winding of relay 512 and the earth. The right winding of relay 512 has a high resistance and relay 290 does not energize in the circuit described.

   Relay 512 operates, and on energizing it establishes a circuit for relay 513. Operation of this latter relay associates earth through the left winding of relay 512 with the circuit followed through the winding of relay 290 to to the battery. The relay 290 is now energized and is blocked by its contact 2 a, on the contact of the relay 289. The operation of the relay 290 also opens the circuit established on the ring conductor, thus causing the relay 512 to drop out. establishes an obvious circuit for relay 514, from the battery through the coil of relay 514, contact 3 of relay 513, to ground applied to the contact of relay 512.

   Operation of relay 514 sets the circuit from the outgoing junction ring conductor which extended through the coupler switches to contact 9 of relay 404. From this point this conductor extends to present at contact 5 of relay 516 at contact and armature of relay 514, at contact 10 of relay 404, at resistance

  <Desc / Clms Page number 46>

 430 and the battery. The lamp 406 is kept on by an earth applied to the conract 6 of the relay 411 and the route which has just been followed is used for monitoring to indicate to the suburban operator without cables the response of the operator at the remote office 281. Operation of relay 290 establishes a route to send signals to the remote office. This route, however, may be the usual arrangement, which is not shown.

   When the operator at the remote office 281 answers, contacts are made through a circuit which is shown schematically as contacts 291,292 and coil 293. Closing these contacts establishes a circuit for relay 288 which connects ground through contact 1 of the switch. relay 290 to the junction ring conductor. This circuit goes, as previously described by the winding of the delay coil 287 to the contacts 8 of the coupling switches 300 and 302 via the contact 9 of the relay 404, which extends through the contact of the relay 514, as followed. and contact 10 of relay 404, to bypass lamp 406.

  This lamp goes out to let the long distance operator know that the call has been established and no longer requires monitoring at this time. The association of earth through the contact of relay 288 also establishes a circuit for relay 209 in the circuit of the incoming junction, which becomes effective when relays 113 and 201 drop. This includes: earth, relay contact 288, relay contact 1 290, delay coil winding 287, ring conductor junction connection switches, delay coil 224, contact 8 of relay 202, contact 9 of relay 113, contact 10 of relay 201, the right winding of relay 209 and the battery '.

   This unbalances relay 209 which operates to interrupt the operation of a counting circuit 107 actuated by the excitation.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 47>

 of relay 106. The counting circuit was originally started by energizing relay 106 when relay il-3 dropped, to measure a time lapse before the transmission of a signal to the attendant letting him know that the called party does not respond. Relay 106 was energized on a circuit comprising, 24 volt battery 140, the coil of this relay, contact 3 of relay 102, contact 4 of relay 105, contact 2 of relay 209, contact 3 of relay 113 and the earth applied to contact 3 of relay 114.

   The relay 106 is blocked by its contact 2 to establish a counting period which is sufficient for the excitation of the junction apparatus described previously in order to establish the telephone communication and to respond to the termination office. The energization of relay 209 opens the above circuit and now associates battery 140 by winding relay 106 to 48 volt battery 141 connected to contact 3 of relay 206. This circuit includes: the contact 3 of relay 102, contact 4 of relay 105, contact 2 of relay 209, and 48 volt battery 141. This reverses the current in relay 106, causing it to drop out, causing release. - ration of a certain number of relays in the coupling circuit 107.

   After the count relays drop, a circuit is again established through their contacts for relay 106, which now operates from 48 volt battery 141 to 24 volt battery 140.

  This starts a period of time the duration of which differs from that of the first period of time and causes the operation of relay 206, from the battery through the coil of relay 206, contact 3 of relay 209, contact 4 of relay 102, contact 3 of relay 106 to earth in the counting circuit.

  The operation of relay 206 dissociates the battery from 48

  <Desc / Clms Page number 48>

 volts of the control circuit for the relay 106, causing the release of the relay 106. The relay 206 while operating establishes for itself a blocking circuit by its contact 2 to the ground or on the contact 4 of the relay 116 or on contact 2 of relay 114. One of these relays or these two relays were actuated at this moment from a circuit established in the switchgear of the position. The relays 206 and 209 remain energized in order to maintain a monitoring path connected to the equipment associated with the remote office 281.

   Relay 208 is also energized in a circuit comprising the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 1 of relay 204, contact 4 of relay 209, contact 8 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 114 or contact 4 of relay 116, and earth.

   Coupling control from the marker.

   ----------------------------------------
It was assumed that the calling terminating inter-city trunk is an intermediate trunk, and communication was established with an outgoing intermediate trunk by the energization of feeder relay 906. This feeder relay established the connection. category of the outgoing junction in the marker by the energization of the 908 category relay. As said before, the operation of the category relays in the lower part of FIG. 11, when an incoming intermediate junction is registered, establishes a circuit for relay 912. This can be established by the operation of the category relay earth 1117 which connects the 7 -, - to the conductor 1131 which extends through the winding of relay 912 to the battery.

   Operation of relay 912 and operation of relay 908 sets the circuit combination to energize the switchgear in the position control circuit, causing a coupling to lock.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 49>

 between the incoming junction and a track of the position.

  During the de-energization operation, the marker establishes this circuit comprising: earth, contact 1 of relay 914, contact of relay 912, contact 2 of normal relay 911, contact of relay 908, left winding of the relay 806, and the battery. Relay 806 establishes a blocking circuit for itself before opening its control circuit from the marker.

  As said before, other combinations are realized by the operation of the category relays in the lower part of FIG. 11, which can energize relay 911, indicating that the calling terminating junction is a junction called a terminal junction. When energized, marker feeder relay 907 causes a free terminal junction to be selected. This feeder relay energizes the category 909 relay. When the 911 relay and 909 relay are energized, the marker in the de-energize operation establishes a circuit comprising: earth, relay contact 1 914, relay contact 912, normal, relay 911 contact 1, relay 909 contact 3, relay 809 right winding and battery.

  When the incoming junction is an intermediate junction and the outgoing junction a junction to a local office, relays 912, 913 and 909 will be actuated to create a combination to energize relay 809 in a circuit comprising: earth, relay 914 contact 1, relay 912 contact 1, relay 911 contact 2, relay 913 contact, relay 909 contact 2, relay 800 right winding and battery. Relay 809 establishes circuits in the intermediate position for non-monitoring of established communication. In addition, relay 909

  <Desc / Clms Page number 50>

 on contact 1 closes a circuit nour the relay 501 in order to delay the release of the position.

   Relay 920 which is energized during de-energization of the switch-off, establishes a circuit to energize the position 804 release relay comprising: earth, the contact of relay 926, the winding of relay 804, and battery . Relay 804 establishes a blocking circuit, either for relay 806, or for relay 809, or for these two relays. Operation of relay 806 establishes a circuit comprising: battery, resistor 812, coil of relay 807, resistor 811, and earth.

   Operation of relay 809 establishes a similar circuit for relay 808. Either actuated relay connects a common blocking circuit, either through the right winding of relay 806 or through the left winding of relay 809, depending on which relay is energized. you. The blocking circuit comprises: the battery, the blocking windings and the associated contacts of relays 806 or 809, the contact of relay 807 or 808, the armature and contact 3 of relay 802. This relay is normal and therefore. Therefore the circuit extends through contact 6 of relay 804 to the earth applied to contact 2 of relay 515.

   These relays remain energized to control an apparatus in the circuit of the incoming junction on circuits which are closed when the relay 113 in the incoming junction falls back and will be followed after the release of this relay. In operation, relay 804 establishes for itself a blocking circuit comprising: the battery, the coil of relay 804, and its contact 5, contact 2 of relay 515 and earth. Relay 804 opens the blocking circuit of relay 805 which drops out.

   Relay 804 establishes for relay 500 a circuit comprising: earth, contact 3 of this relay, contact 4 of relay 705, contact 1 of

  <Desc / Clms Page number 51>

 relay 502, contact 1 of relay 501, the winding of relay 500 and the battery. When operating, relay 500 is blocked to earth on contact 1 of relay 702. When operating, relay 500 opens the control circuit for relay 112, but relay 112 is blocked to earth on contact 6 of relay 203 and therefore does not fall.

   At this moment, the split relay 201 is earth blocked at / at contact 6 of relay 203, by the following circuit, the battery, the upper winding of relay 201, contact 5 of relay 201, contact 5 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 104, contact 3 of relay 202, contact 7 of relay 117, contact 6 of relay 203 and earth. Relay 113 is blocked at a contact of split relay 201.

   This circuit for relay 113 comprises: the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 4 of relay 201, contact 4 of relay 112, conductor 322, contact 6 of switches 300 and 302, and then two circuits, one established by contact 9 of relay 403 and the other established by contact 2 of relay 404. The circuit passing through contact 9 of relay 403 extends through contact 1 of relay 706 and contact 3; , i relay 500 to earth. The circuit extending through contact 2 of relay 404 passes through contact 2 of relay 805 and contact 3 of relay 804 to earth.

  Therefore, operation of relays 804 and 500 opens the circuit for relay 113 which drops out. since the blocking circuit for relay 201 passes through a contact of relay 113, relay 201 also drops out. On falling, the relay 113 establishes the circuits to actuate the relay 114 or the relay 116 or these two relays.

   The circuit for the two relays comprises simultaneously: the battery, their windings, contacts 6 and 7 of relay 113, contacts 10 and 11 of switches 300 and 302, contacts 7 and 8 of relay 404,

  <Desc / Clms Page number 52>

 contacts 2 and 3 of relay 801, contacts 1 and 5 of relay 805, contacts 4 and 8 of relay 804, contacts 5 and 6 of relay 806 and contacts 3 and 5 of relay 809. The circuit for the relay 114 extends to earth through the coil of relay 807 and resistor 811, and the circuit for relay 116 extends to earth through the coil of relays 808 and resistor 813. A Potentiometer is associated with each circmit, one comprising resistor 812 to the battery and relay winding 807 and resistor 811 to ground.

   A similar potentiometer is associated with the circuit of relay 808. Relay 114 can be energized in the circuit, passing through contacts 5 and 6 of relay 806. Relay 116 can be energized in the circuit passing through contacts of relay 809.

   When it is energized, the relay 114 connects the earth through its contact 1 and the conductor 328, the contact, act 3 of the switch 300, the holding electromagnet 305 to the battery, through the winding of the maintenance electromagnet 307 to the battery and extends through contact 3 of switch 302, the winding of relay 411, to the battery. The coupling switches 300 and 302 and the relay 411, therefore remain blocked and block the incoming call junction to the track of the interurban operator position without cords. The operation of relay 114 also establishes circuits intended for signaling, in the incoming junctions, Figs. 1 and 2.

   When energized, relay 116 establishes similar signaling circuits for the incoming junction but does not establish a circuit to block the one-way coupling from the no-lead position.

   In the release operation, the switchgear from the cordless position proceeds as follows: the

  <Desc / Clms Page number 53>

 primitive command for relay 404 is opened by contact 7 of relay 500. This primitive control circuit for relay 404 places a shunt path around the coil of relay 803. This shunt is now removed and the control circuit for relay 404 extends through the coil of relay 803, which Now operates on contact 4 of delayed release relay 805. The control circuit for relay 706 is opened by contact 6 of relay 500.

   Relay 706 is a delayed release relay to maintain a blocking circuit for redo 413. The control circuit for relay 413 is opened by contact 1 of relay 500, but since relay 413 has a blocking circuit to ground on contact 3 of delayed release relay 706 by conductor 519, it remains energized until relay 706 drops out. The blocking circuit for relay 711 is opened by contact 5 of relay 700. The control circuit for junction split relay 201 is opened by contact 3 of relay 500. Contact 2 is arranged to open the circuit for the monitoring relay 412, when it is energized. This relay is only energized, when a monitoring key 422 is actuated, as described later.

   The previously followed operation of relay 803 opens the circuit for relay 705 which drops out. Deactivation of relay 705 opens the circuit for the delayed release relay 805. The final tripping of relay 805 opens the holding circuit for relays 404 and 803 which drops relay 515. The final trip of relay 706 opens the blocking circuit for relay 413 which now drops out.

  On de-energizing, relay 413 opens the circuit for relay 403. Relay 702 is kept energized to earth on relay 413 and - relay 403. When they have both de-energized, these two relays will cause release. of relay 702, which opens the blocking circuit for

  <Desc / Clms Page number 54>

 relay 500. On falling, relay 413 also opens the circuit for the relay of track 402. The nosition circuit has now been completely reset and the track circuit has been reset except for the relay 411 which is blocked at the circuit of the incoming junction, Figs. 1 and 2, by the operation of a relay such as 114, assuming that the latter relay was automatically energized by the marker in response to the records as described.

   The long distance position can now be entered for new incoming calls which can be connected to free channels in the position or be used by remote operators or long distance subscribers on an established call.

   In the case of a call directed to a manual termination office, resulting in the energization of the 909 category relay and the 809, 808 and 501 relays, as described above, the relay 500 circuit is open at contact 1 of relay 501, and energizing relay 804 during release of marker 902 and recorder-sender 900 does not release the position of the tracker. However, relay 804 opens the blocking circuit of relay 704 and this relay drops out, to establish a talk circuit between the long distance attendant position and the attendant position at the manual office.

   The relay 704 having dropped out, the relay 501 is blocked in a circuit comprising: the battery, the winding of this relay and its contact 2, the contact 2 of the relay 704, the contact 2 of the relay 504, the contact of the key of release of position 511, contact 9 of relay 711 and earth.

   The long distance operator can now pass the desired line number to the operator in the manual office, after which she activates key 511 to drop relay 501 and allow relay 500 to function.

  <Desc / Clms Page number 55>

 Ner under the control of relay 804. Subsequent release is as described above, relay 116 being actuated by the junction circuit.

   In the case where the category relay operates the 806 category relay but not the 501 relay, the release takes place as for the blocked coupling, except that, since the relay 116 is energized in the relay circuit. At the incoming junction, relay 411 is not kept energized and the coupling switches return to idle with the position and track circuits.

   Coupling control, from the long distance position.

   -------------------------------------------------- ----
The relays 114 and 116 of the incoming junction circuit can also be energized at the option of the operator in the cordless position by operating the $ 50 track maintenance key. This key establishes a circuit for the maintain relay of the track 802 which includes: the battery, the coil of the relay 802, the contact 7 of the relay 705, the contact of the key 508, the contact 2 of the relay 1003 and the earth or contact 2 of relay 1002 and earth. Operation of relay 802 connects this earth through the right winding of relay 806 to the battery and the left winding of relay 809 to the battery, which actuates both relays 806 and 809.

   The relay 804 is then either automatically energized during the release of the marker as explained previously, or else energized by the manipulation of the key 511 for releasing the position. This last circuit for the relay of this relay
804 includes: battery, winding, contact
8 of relay 705, contact 4 of relay 800, contact of key 511, contact 9 of relay 711 and earth.

   Upon energizing, relay 804 now establishes circuits for both relays 114 and 116 as previously followed.

  When the two relays 114 and 116 are actuated, a cir-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 56>

 The blocking circuit for the holding electromagnet of the coupling switches and the position channel relay 411 is established from earth by the contact 1 of the relay 114 as previously followed. As previously followed, operation of relay 804 energizes relay 500 to open the circuit of relay 113, causing it to release. On falling, relay 113 establishes a circuit in the incoming junction to actuate the two relays 114 and 116.

   The device is released from the position and the track as described previously. The relay 411 of this channel remains blocked at the coupling and at the circuit of the incoming junction for the monitoring of the established telephone communication.

   Monitoring by the long distance operator without cords ----------------------------------------- Suppose now that after the call has been established the remote operator at office 281 requires the attention of the cordless long distance operator and the incoming trunk Figs. 1 and 2 is locked to a lane in the trunkless position by coupling switches 300 and 302 and therefore relay 411 is actuated and relay 114 is actuated to keep that lane in position. .

  When requiring the attention of the cordless interurban operator, the remote operator can open and close contacts 291 and 292 a number of times, an operation known as flashing. The blinking of the remote onerator, when contacts 291 and 292 are opened for the first time, will drop relay 288 and dissociate the ground of the lower winding of the delay coil 287 on the bushing conductor. , thus causing the release of relay 209.

  Relay 204 is actuated in a circuit comprising the battery, the left winding of this relay, the con-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 57>

 contact 2 of relay 208, contact 4 of relay 209, contact 8 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 114 and earth.

  With relay 204 energized, when relay 209 operates again in response to the reclosing of the contacts
291 and 292, a circuit is closed for relay 207, which comprises: the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 1 of relay 116, contact 1 of relay 208, contact 1 of relay 204, contact 4 of relay 209, contact 8 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 114 and earth.

   The two relays 204 and 207 are blocked by the contact 4 of the relay 208 to the earth applied to the contact 2 of the relay 114. The operation of the relay 207 opens the blocking circuit for the relay 112, which reto-ibe. Releasing relay 112 restores the local control circuit for relay 113 as previously followed to ground on contact 6 of relay 203, Relays 204 and 207, are slow release relays and establish new blocking circuits after release. of relay 113, which go from the battery through the tight winding of the relay 204, and from the battery through the winding of the relay 207, then through the contact 3 of the relay 113 and the contact 3 of the relay 114 to earth.

   The blocking circuit for relay 208 is opened by the operation of relay 113, causing relay 208 to release, so that relays 204 and 207 can de-energize later when relay 113 is de-energized again. As it is actuated, relay 114 prevents reestablishment of the circuit from being energized to re-coupling. Operation of relay 113 and release of relay 112 automatically establishes a circuit for talk relay 410 in the track circuit.

   This circuit includes: earth, contact 1 of relay 113, contact 2 of relay 112, conductor 321, contact 7

  <Desc / Clms Page number 58>

 switches 300 and 302, relay 403 contact 2, which is normal, relay 410 flow, and the battery. As soon as the relay 403 operates after the energization of the talk relay 410, a circuit is reestablished for the relay 112 by the contact 6 of the relay 403 to the earth applied to the contact 1 of the relay 504. The relay 112 operates again and associates the signaling path on the driver 321 in the operator position.

  The operation of relays 204 and 207 establishes a circuit going from the battery through resistor 222, contact 4 of relay 204, contact 2 of relay 207 in multiple with the battery, through resistor 110, joining this circuit to the contact. 2 of relay 112, depending on conductor 321, contacts 7 of switches 300 and 302, contact 2 of relay 403, windings of relays 1014, 1015 and 1016 to earth. Operation of relays 1014 and 1016 establishes a circuit for relay 1002, as previously followed. A circuit is established for lamp 1011 and a characteristic tone is transmitted to the operator as previously described, indicating to the operator the characteristic of the call to be answered.

   The track and position circuit apparatus, comprising relay 403, is energized as follows:
As a result of the operation of the talk relay 410, a circuit is established for the channel relay 402, which is actuated to prevent the position from being entered while monitoring an established communication. The circuit for the channel relay 402 includes: the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact 1 of the relay 410, the contact 3 of the relay 411, the contact 2 of the relay 402, the contact 1 of the relay 701 and the earth . it is therefore established for the relay 413 a circuit comprising:

  <Desc / Clms Page number 59>

 the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact 1 of the relay 402, the contact of the telephone jack 1104, the contact of the key 505, the contact 1 of the relay 500 and the earth.

   Relay 413 is later blocked to earth applied to contact 3 of relay 706, after relay 706 has operated. At this time, a circuit is established for relays 403 and 404 as previously followed, which establishes the circuit. previous for the relay 112 and causes the energization of the relays 515,705 and of the relay 702. The relays 709,710 and 711 are again energized, as followed previously. The relay 711 is blocked to the earth applied to the relay 500. The relay 709 is de-energized by the operation of the relay of category 1117 or 1119, which causes the release of the relay 710. A circuit is then established to operate the relay 706, comprising: the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 6 of relay 500, contact 5 of relay 709, contact 5 of relay 711 and earth.

   A circuit is now established for relays 708 and 707. In this case, both relays operate to indicate an established communication. This circuit includes: the battery, the windings of relays 708 and 707 in series, contact 6 of relay 504, contact 6 of relay 516, contact 5 of relay 801, contact 4 of relay 803, contact 7 of relay 413, contact 9 of the coupling switches, FIG. 3, the conductor 329, the contact 9 of the relay 201 and the contact 4 of the relay 202 up to the earth and up to the socket conductor of the switches by the battery-holding electromagnets. Relay 708 is energized to earth on contact 4 of relay 202.

  On energizing, relay 708 establishes a blocking circuit for itself to earth applied to contact 8 of relay 711 and also to earth applied to contact 2 of re-

  <Desc / Clms Page number 60>

 lais 7u6. This establishes a circuit for the polarized relay 707 from earth to the blocking circuit for the relay 708 by winding the relay 707 to the battery connected to the holding electromagnets of the switches.

  A circuit is thus established for relay 800, comprising the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact of relay 707, contact 4 of relay 711, contact 2 of relay 710, contact 5 of relay 500. , contact 2 of relay 702 and earth. The operation of relay 707 prevents the establishment of a circuit for the recorder-sender turn-on relay 704 as previously described and the recorder-sender is in this case not far from the normal state in this case. These conditions. The conversation conductor extending to the contacts of relay 704 remains closed and the operator's headset is associated with the line, when the split relay is energized.

   This split relay 201 is activated by the association of the earth with the conductor 717, when the relay 706 is actuated as previously described. Earthing is established for the split relay through contact 3 of relay 500, contact 1 of relay 706, conductor 717, contact 9 of relay 403, thence nar the incoming junction to the rewind. - leave 201 to the battery. The incoming conductors coming from the long distance office 100 are dissociated from the outgoing junction, so that the long distance operator without cords can converse with the operator of office 281. After the conversation, the long distance operator without cords can excite the call. release key 511 to release the switchgear from the cordless trunk position in the manner previously described.

   In this case, releasing relay 113 opens the blocking circuits for relays 207 and 204 which both

  <Desc / Clms Page number 61>

 fall back. The relay 411 of the channel remains energized and the channel remains connected to the incoming junction as before.

   Established communication can also be monitored by the operation of the conversation key 423 which energizes the relay 410 to connect the headset of the long distance operator without cords, to the trunk line as described above.

   In the event of a callback by the attendant to a manual office in which case the coupling was not blocked at the junction, the attendant flashes, dropping and re-energizing relay 209 as described above. The relay 112 is released and the relay 133 is put back into action.

  However, since in this case, relay 116 is energized, the starting circuit followed previously, from earth to contact 1 of relay 114, by contact 2 of relay 113 and contact 1 of relay 112 to the grounding conductor. running 320 is closed again and the coupling control circuit of FIG. 6 works to choose a free channel in a free position as during a new call. However, relay 707 operates to indicate the presence of an established communication as described above for monitoring on a blocked channel. Relay 707 energizes relay 800. With relay 800 energized, subsequent operation of release key 511 energizes relay 804 to complete release of the position.

   Monitoring by re-listening ----------------------------------
When the attendant decides to monitor, by listening, an established communication, the key 422 is operated to operate the relay 412. The circuit for this relay includes the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact of the key 422 , relay contact 5

  <Desc / Clms Page number 62>

 411 and earth The energization of the monitoring relay establishes a circuit for the relay of channel 402 and for the monitoring relay 1101. The circuit for the relay 402 includes: the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact 2 of monitoring relay 412, contact 3 of relay 411, contact 2 of relay 402, contact 1 of relay 701 and earth. The circuit for relay 1101 is obvious and should not be described.

  The relay 413 is energized in a circuit comprising: the battery, the winding of this relay, the contact 1 of the relay 402, the contact 1104 of the telephone jack, the contact of the key 505, the contact 1 of the relay 500 and the earth.

  Relay 403 is not energized during monitoring and thus no circuit is established for relay 404.

  The circuit for relay 403 is opened by contact 4 of relay 412. The monitoring circuit extends from the tip and ring conductors of the incoming junction through contacts 1 and 2 of switches 300 and 302, the contacts of the relay 413, directly to the monitoring part of the telephone circuit Fig. 11. During the monitoring the switchgear of the position comprising the relays 402,401, 701,702, 709,710, 711,707, 70e, 800 and 706 are energized as before, in order to energize another switchgear to place the relays of the circuit of the position. - tion in an order such that it appropriately establishes release circuits when monitoring is completed. No circuits are established for relays 515 and 705.

   The circuit can be de-energized after the monitoring has been completed by actuating key 511 which operates relay 500 in a circuit comprising: the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 1 of relay 501, contact 1 of relay 502, contact 4 of normal relay 705, contact 4 of relay 800, contact

  <Desc / Clms Page number 63>

 of key 511, contact 9 of relay 711 and earth.

   At the end of a telephone conversation, the circuits involved in the link; are released by opening the trunk circuit at a remote office or at a subscriber station. Relay 288 drops out, which removes ground from the circuit passing through the winding of delay coil 287, and the bushing conductor to the winding of relay 209. Relay 209 drops out and in this case remains loose. dear. A circuit is established for the counting circuit, which energizes relay 106 in a circuit as previously followed / which, after a certain period of time, releases the apparatus from the incoming junction, if a coupling is not blocked there. .

   If it is assumed that a coupling is not blocked and that therefore relay 114 is normal, a circuit is established for relay 117 which comprises: the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 5 of relay 114 , contact 4 of relay 206, contact 3 of relay 209, contact 4 of relay 102, contact 3 of counting relay 106 and earth in the counting circuit. Operation of relay 117 now opens the blocking circuit for relay 202 which extended through contact 7 of fault 117. On releasing, earth relay 202 removes the / 'from socket conductor 286, causing de-energization of the electro. -switch holding magnets and releasing relay 289 in the outgoing junction.

   Releasing relay 289 causes releasing of relay 290, which restores the normal state of the outgoing junction. On falling, relay 202 restores the normal state of all the equipment of the incoming junction.

  When the incoming trunk is blocked at link switches, such as 300 and 302, and one lane in the trunkless position without cords, a disconnect at the remote office causes relay 209 to release, which trans-

 sends a signal to the operator without cords and activates relay 207 in the manner previously described. A disconnection signal is thus given to the operator without earth leads by the energization of relay 410 from / on contact @ 1 lasts for 113 after releasing relay 112 and de-energizing relay 113 as described for a reminder of the interurban operator without cords. Relays 503 and 504 are now energized to release the circuit apparatus from the incoming junction.

   The operator without cords operates the key 510 establishing a circuit for the relay 503 in a circuit comprising: the battery, / of this relay the right winding, the lower contact of the key 510, the contact 2 of the relay 1002 which is excited and earth.

  In operation, relay 503 establishes an obvious circuit for driving relay 504. Relay 504 opens / earth at its contact 6 which is normally extended to the incoming junction on conductor 329 to maintain electri- cal. holding tro-magnets and relay 289, when split relay 201 is energized.

   The split relay is now energized in a circuit comprising the battery, the winding of this relay, contact 4 of relay 112, conductor 322, contact 6 of switches 300 and 302, contact 9 of relay 403, contact 1 of relay 706, contact 3 of =., # lais 500 and earth 0 Operation of split relay 201 opens the earth circuit extended to socket conductor 286 to keep the electromagnets energized. hold and to keep relay 289 energized. Since this earth circuit was also opened in position by energizing relay 504, the holding electromagnets release the switches and relay 289 is also de-energized.

   Since in this case, the relay 114 was blocked at this same earth, the relay 114 also drops out. It is now established for relay 117 a

  <Desc / Clms Page number 65>

 circuit comprising: the battery, its slow winding, contact 5 of relay 114, normal, and earth in the counting circuit, as previously followed. The operation of relay 117 opens the blocking circuit of relay 202 which passes through contact 7 of relay 117. On falling, relay 202 releases the apparatus from the circuit of the incoming junction. By dropping the relay 114 opens the circuit for the holding electromagnets 305 and 307 in the coupling switch and also the circuit for the relay 411.

   However, at this time, the relay for track 413 is energized, which maintains a blocking circuit for relay 411 to keep that track occupied until the switchgear in the track has been released. The position circuit is released by the operation of relay 500 which is energized by the position release key 511 or by the rearward release key 510. All circuits involved in telephone communication are now ready to be put into action by other incoming and outgoing calls.
