" Extincteur d'incendie"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

" Fire extinguisher"
The present invention relates to a fire extinguisher in which the product capable of extinguishing the fire is expelled by means of an explosive launching charge, and generally consisting of a cylindrical handle or of a body containing the lever. charge and discharge intended, by acting on its firing pin, to detonate a cartridge and cause the expulsion of the extinguishing powder contained in a metal casing of frustoconical shape, the largest base or mouth of which consists of a less resistant than that of the envelope and destructible, the cartridge being interposed between the handle and the frustoconical envelope,
while a safety capable of preventing possible false movements of the load and unload lever is provided
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and comes into operation when the device is hung from its support.
The blow caused by the discharge can only be compared to the noise produced by the uncorking of any bottle with a stopper, since the casing containing the extinguishing powder, also by its frustoconical shape, acts as a silencer. A particular advantage of this new type of extinguisher is that the dry powder is thrown violently on the burning target with a wide range of action. A further advantage is that the extinguisher can be unloaded with one hand, by operating the load and unload lever with the single thumb.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of example one form of construction of the extinguisher according to the invention, where
Figure 1 is an external view of the apparatus.
Figure 2 is an axial-vertical section.
In the hollow cylindrical handle 1 is housed a movable sleeve 2, intended to receive inside the load mechanism and a discharge one consisting of a cylindrical rod 3 with firing pin 4 and / member 5 similar to a lever, projecting laterally out of the pagnée 1 and being housed in a bayonet notch 16 made in the sleeve 2.
The sleeve 2 is provided at one end with a threaded stopper 6 for guiding the handle 3 and the other end is formed in the form of a head having a central hole for the striker to pass through and a threaded ferrule 7 for joining the handle with the 'tapered metal casing 8 intended to receive the extinguishing powder and which, by means of the connector 9 carries the cartridge 10. A sleeve 11 for locking the cartridge is interposed between the connector 9 and the head of the sleeve 2. In the sleeve 2 are two diametrically opposed slots 12 in which are engaged as many notches 13 carried by the handle 1, so as to allow limited movement of the handle relative to the entire apparatus.
A helical spring 14 is interposed between the bottom of the handle 1 and the stopper 6 to maintain the latter in tension and a second spring 15 is interposed between the stopper 6 and the side lever 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
A notch 17, made at the top of the handle 1, serves as a safety catch when the device is placed in its support 19, since it is necessary to compress the handle 1 on the sleeve 2 and bring the lever 5 into the notch 17. A cover 19 of material of less strength than that of the envelope and destructible, preferably cardboard, hermetically seals the large base or outlet of the envelope.
At rest, the device is mounted on the support 18 and, in this position, cannot be unloaded, the lever 5 being housed in the notch 17 serving as a safety catch. To use the device, it must first be grasped by exerting a slight upward pressure with the hand, so as to release it from the support 18. The spring 14, while relaxing, moves the handle downwards, releasing lever 5 from notch 17, and the device is ready to operate. By holding the device with one hand, it is possible to release the lever 2 from the bayonet notch and the firing pin compressed by the spring 15 is then released on the cartridge, causing it to burst and the violent launch of the powder. fire extinguisher on the objective to be extinguished, after having expelled or destroyed the cardboard cover 19.
CLAIMS.
