<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"WHISTLE ON HOLLOW TOYS IN RUBBER OR SIMILAR MATERIALS".
The present patent relates to a whistle garnishing hollow toys made of rubber or similar materials, produced in such a way as to eliminate the inconvenience and danger for children, which constitutes in the hollow toy the presence of a small metal part or other forming a whistle and which can easily be removed from the toy.
To this end, the present patent envisages a whistle forming an intimate part of the toy from which it cannot be detached without destroying the latter.
For this purpose, the whistle envisaged in accordance with this patent is made of flexible rubber or equivalent materials, made of the same material or that of a material similar to that of the hollow toy for which it is intended and produced in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
preferably different embodiments, either / in one piece, or possibly in several pieces assembled by welding and fixed by a collar to the hollow toy by means of vulcanizing dissolution, if the whistle and the toy are both made of rubber, or by the intervention of heat, if the latter are made of a thermoplastic synthetic material.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, various embodiments of a whistle executed in accordance with the subject of the invention.
The designs considered represent:
FIG. I, a section in the wall of a hollow toy and in a whistle molded from a piece of flexible rubber and fixed by its collar on the outer face of the wall of the toy, also of flexible rubber.
Fig. 2, a section in the wall of a hollow toy, and in a whistle made up of two parts, the collar of which is also fixed on the outer face of the wall of the toy.
Fig. 3 a section in the wall of a hollow toy and in a whistle also in two pieces, the collar of which is fixed on the inner face of the wall of the toy.
In. Referring to fig.I, 1 represents the wall of the hollow toy, 2 the tank or bell of the whistle provided towards the inside of the toy with a central opening 5 and an opening 4 towards the outside made in the collar 3 , in one piece with the bell 2, and welded at 7 on the outer face of the wall of the toy.
In this embodiment, the whistle (collar 3 and tank or bell 2) is made of a flexible rubber like the wall 1 of the toy and fixed to the latter by means of a vulcanizing solution at low temperature.
The whistle itself is vulcanized in a heated mold under pressure; its shape is designed to allow pitting without causing permanent deformation,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In fig. 2, the whistle is made up of two parts, namely: the tank or bell 2 and its collar 3 pierced in the center with an opening 4 and welded at 6 to the bell or tank 2, In In this embodiment, the reservoir or bell 2 is obtained by molding in a vulcanizing press or dipping a mandrel of suitable shape in a prepared bath of rubber latex, while the collar 3 obtained starting from a sheet of rubber is fixed at 6 to the tank 2 by a vulcanizing solution.
In this embodiment, the collar 3 also appears on the outside of the wall I of the hollow object.
Fig.3 shows a whistle obtained in a manner similar to that described above for Fig.2 with the difference that the collar 3 is welded to the inner face of the wall 1 of the toy not revealing the outer surface of this wall than the small hole 9 very little visible. This form of fixing is particularly interesting because the whistle is thus completely hidden. Depending on the embodiment of the whistle, according to Fig.I and 2, the opening IO in the wall I of the hollow object will be more or less large.
It should be noted that in the three embodiments described above, the orifices or air passages, on the one hand 4 of fig.I and 2 and 9 of fig.3, on the other hand 5 of the three figs. , are calibrated as in all whistles of this kind to obtain the desired vibration.
The whistles welded in this way to the hollow body, have the advantage of being non-removable over the metal whistles generally used. These metal whistles produced by cutting a sheet of metal in the press and crimping the stamped parts, are mounted on the toy after finishing They are only fixed by the slight tightening due to the elasticity of a hole in the wall of the hollow toy. The other methods of making and fixing whistles sometimes used today have the same defects to varying degrees.
The whistle in accordance with this patent, on the contrary, is an integral part of the toy and is placed before the toy receives its final completion, which contributes to making it hardly visible.
