EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Anti-theft device for bicycle pump,
EMI1.1
....,., ¯¯¯¯..¯¯..¯ ...., .. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯.¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯ CI: Swiss patent application n 34.261 of April 22, 1948, in the names of René GLATZ and Werner GLATZ, of which the applicant is the beneficiary.
The object of the invention is an anti-theft device for a bicycle pump, characterized by a cylinder provided with means for its attachment to a tube of the frame of a bicycle, a piston being mounted to slide inside this cylinder and being normally held at one end of said cylinder by the action of a spring, so that a rod integral with the piston and passing through said end of the cylinder serves as a retaining member intended to engage in an orifice provided at one of the ends of a pump to be held against the tube of the frame of the bicycle,
the device further comprising a key intended to be inserted into an orifice made in the wall of the cylinder and allowing the piston to be moved against the action of said spring when it is desired to release said retaining rod for release of the pump.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the anti-theft device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in diametral section the cylinder which the said embodiment of the device has, as well as its fixing means.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of said cylinder, from the right of fig 1, FIG. 3 is a plan view from above.
Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale and in section, said cylinder, as well as the key which also includes the device.
Fig. 5 is an elevational view of this key, FIG. 6 is a side view.
The device shown comprises a cylinder 1, one end of which is closed by a cover 2 force-fitted in said end, while its other end is provided with a central orifice 3. Inside the cylinder 1 is slidably mounted a piston 4 traversed at its center by a rod 5, one end of this rod 5 passes through the orifice 3 of the cylinder and protrudes out of said cylinder, while its other end is guided in a blind hole 6 made in the cover 2.
A coil spring 7 surrounds the rod 5, between the piston 4 and the cover 2 and tends to hold the piston 4 against the end of the cylinder provided with the orifice 3, so that the rod 5 protrudes at the maximum out of this end of the cylinder, On the side of cylinder 1 is also fixed a bri- of 8 serving to fix the cylinder to one of the tubes of the frame of a bicycle, On said tuoe will also be fixed a second ordinary stop, a pump to be maintained between said stop of the rod 5 constituting the pump retaining member, To this end, said rod 5 is threaded into an orifice provided at one end of the @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
pump, while the other end cooperates with the second ordinary stop, Once in place,
the pump cannot be disengaged, because it is not possible to act on the piston 4 to move it against the spring 7, which is necessary to withdraw the rod 5 from the pump.
To be able to perform this release, the cylinder is also provided, on the side, with an orifice 9 opening into the cylinder substantially at the height of the face of the piston which presses against the end of the cylinder. This end of the cylinder is light. ment frustoconical so that the piston only presses on it by its edge and that the orifice 9 opens into the cylinder partially below the underside of the piston.
The device further comprises a key 10 intended to be inserted into the orifice 9. This key has at its end a paneton 11 which is bevelled, so that it engages below the piston when inserting the key into the cylinder. During this introduction, the paneton slightly lifts the piston, from the position shown in solid lines to that shown in phantom in fig. 4. Then, by turning the key, the paneton will raise, by its widened part, the piston 4 to a position for which the rod 5 will be withdrawn from the orifice of the pump and the latter will be released. .
