<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

He Element of construction. "
The present invention relates to a building element and in particular to a building block or brick *
Construction blops are made in various shapes and sizes. Thus, there are blocks furnished with grooves and protrusions on their two bases or on certain side faces so as to allow them to fit together. If these blocks are generally full there are however some which are hollow and have one or more chimneys passing from one base to the other * Given their dimensions, these blocks are heavy and difficult to grasp, this obliges the mason to make use of both hands when setting up.
The present invention having for its object to eliminate these drawbacks consists in providing a building block which is light and easy to grip while being resistant.
According to the present invention a building block is constituted by a body having on the outside a shape
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
regular parallelepiped and whose interior is hollow to give a great lightness to the whole. A particularity of the invention consists in slotting down the central cavity on the one hand, by the lateral faces and by the upper base of the parallelepipedal hollow body.
In addition, in order to keep the block sufficient resistance and to promote demoulding, it is planned to give the oavity the shape of a truncated pyramid, the large base of which is in the plane of the lower base or support base. of the block * In this way a longitudinal or transverse section made by the center affects the general shape of a portico.
Finally, the installation of a block according to the invention is advantageously facilitated by providing a gripping means which may be constituted by a rectangular opening formed in the center of the upper base and in which the hand is engaged.
Other particularities may appear during the description of the appended drawings, given by way of non-limiting example, of an embodiment of the invention.
In these drawings:
FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of a block produced according to the present invention.
The figure is a view in longitudinal section through a plane passing through the center.
As it appears in Figure 1 the block following the i, vention has an external parallelepipedal shape, that is to say that it is limited by four side faces 1, 2, 5 and 4 and by two bases 5 and 6, of which the lower 5 is the support base of the block. In Figure 1 the anterior face is assumed to be removed. In this way the cavity dug to

the interior of the block is visible at 7.
In addition, this cavity, as a result of the shape of a regular quadrangular truncated pyramid, has its inclined side walls (see figure @) which gives a longitudinal or transverse cross section passing through the center the appearance of a portico. The large base of the cavity is located in the plane of the lower base 5 or support base. Finally, the block is easily uajsit thanks to the opening 8 made in the center of the upper base and in which the worker can slip his hand.
A block produced according to the convincing invention has advantages among which one can mention its great resistance, its great lightness and its ease of installation thanks to the gripping means.
CLAIMS.
1. Building block, characterized in that it consists of a body of regular parallelepiped shape provided with a central cavity and a gripping means.
