Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Improvements to glazing bars \
This invention relates to glazing bars of the type comprising a web or joist on either side of which extend shoulders intended to each support the edge of a pane or its equivalent, a part of the web. projecting between the edges of the panes to serve as an attachment to the middle part of a covering strip whose edges apply to the upper face of the panes.

   The invention is applicable to bars of this type, whether intended to support windows or other materials, but for convenience and as such bars are usually used to support or assemble windows and are therefore designed - Sequent generally called glazing bars, it will be assumed in the following description that these are windows.

   The object of the invention is to create a glazing bar of the type mentioned, which lends itself to mass production, by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 for example by the execution of the beam and of the covering strip in practically continuous lengths or in sections of great length, without having to recur in subsequent, long and expensive machining operations, and which in addition is easy to assemble and gives satisfaction in use.

   To this end, in a glazing bar of the type mentioned, produced according to the present invention, the part of the core which protrudes between the panes and to which the covering strip is to be fixed has in its edge a longitudinal groove con - Tins in the sides of which, are formed longitudinal ribs intended to engage with the screw thread, each of which passes through a hole in the covering strip and attacks the sides of the groove.

   Thus, the longitudinal ribs of one side of the groove are located at distances from the edge of the web which differ from those which separate from the other edge the corresponding ribs of the other side by an amount equal to half of the thread pitch of the screws, so that the parts of the ribs formed in the two sides of the groove and with which the thread of each screw engages can be considered as a screw thread interrupted in the web of beam.

   Preferably the screws used are conical like the screws usually called "wood screws" but they can have another shape if desired and in each case, the screw can be screwed into the groove at any desired point along the length of the screw. -this.

   It will be understood that since the groove of the core and the ribs formed in the sides of the groove are continuous, the arrangement lends itself well to the mass production of the bar, for example by continuous extrusion of an alloy of aluminum or other suitable alloy, or by other continuous processes.

   In addition, the covering is generally made of a relatively thin material and can be performed

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 in a similar manner by a continuous process or in relatively long sections, and it is provided with holes which are punched therein or otherwise produced at suitable intervals, either during this operation or after or before giving to the strip. covering its final shape, as will be deemed appropriate.

   The invention can be implemented in different ways, and one embodiment thereof will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view of the glazing bar, and
Fig. 2 a cross section on a larger scale of the ribbed groove of the web of the bar according to FIG. 1.

   The glazing bar comprises a core A, made of extruded aluminum for example, having lateral shoulders B at its side, on either side of this core, to receive the lower faces of the edges of two adjacent panes. C glazing D.

  The shoulders B are advantageously arranged at an intermediate point of the height of the web A, as shown in FIG. 1, but they can, if desired, start from the lower edge of the web, that is to say from the edge closest to the lower part of FIG. 1. In either case, the upper part A1 of the web A is established so as to protrude upwards between the edges of the panes C and is provided with a rectangular groove E, relatively narrow and deep. , starting from its upper edge and extending continuously throughout its length.

   The sides of this groove, as best shown in Fig. 2, have continuous longitudinal ribs F, the ribs of the two sides of the groove E being at different distances from the upper edge A2 of the web A such that a "wood screw" G of dimensions and of suitable pitches can be screwed into the groove E at any point of its length, and the parts of the ribs F with which the thread of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 G screw engages then constitute in a way the parts of an uninterrupted cooperating thread.

   It can therefore be seen that the ribs F of one side of the groove E are offset with respect to those of the other side of the latter, in a direction perpendicular to the length of the web and parallel to the edges. flanks of the groove, by an amount equal to half of the pitch d. u helical thread of the wood screw G.

   A cover strip H, for example of aluminum having an appropriate degree of flexibility, can be attached to the web A by a number of woodscrews G, and its middle part is pierced with suitably spaced holes through it. which pass the wood screws which serve to fix it to the web, while its edges apply and rest on the upper faces of the panes C so as to keep them firmly in contact with the shoulders B. The cross section of the cover band H may vary in shape, but in the embodiment shown it takes the form of an inverted trough, the bottom of which is flat to receive the screws, while the sides are inclined with respect to the bottom under obtuse angles.

   At the lower edge of the core A is provided a support sole J, as shown in FIG. 1, by means of which the glazing bar can be fixed to the frame D by bolts K or by other fasteners.

   It should be understood that the terms "upper" and "lower" which have been employed above for convenience, as well as the corresponding meanings, correspond to the upper and lower parts and the meanings of FIG. 1, and that the glazing bars can obviously have any desired orientation.

** ATTENTION ** end of DESC field can contain start of CLMS **.
