<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Improvements to folding cradles and similar objects".
The present invention relates to folding cradles and similar objects of the type in which the actual cradle or similar body of flexible material is suspended from a frame, comprising a pair of U-shaped elements hinged to plates or plates. side blocks and capable of being brought, by pivoting about their pivots, either in a vertical position, these elements then being parallel to one another, or in a divergent position or a service position, in which the elements The aforementioned elements can be blocked, in particular by means of toggle connection pieces.
In this type of cradle or similar object, other U-shaped elements
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
are also articulated to the side plates or blocks and are capable of being brought, by pivoting, either in a vertical position, these elements then being parallel to one another, or in a position diverging downwards, from ma- naire to form a base, which makes the frame stable and supports the actual cradle or similar body at a given level.
Instead of being a cradle, the aforementioned body can constitute a bath of flexible material impermeable to water.
The object of the present invention is to allow the actual cradle or the like (hereinafter called the cradle body) to be placed at different levels depending on the circumstances. Another object of the invention is to ensure that the deployment and the blocking of the elements of the frame carrying the body of the cradle in their open position bring the base elements into the desired position to support the body of the cradle at a relatively level. low.
According to the invention, two U-shaped elements are articulated to the side plates or blocks and are connected to the supporting elements of the cradle body, for example, by means of connection pieces, so that when these last elements are brought and locked in divergent position, the base elements will be brought and maintained in a substantially horizontal position and will form a base supporting the body of the cradle at a relatively low level, but will be folded back along the elements supporting the body of the cradle. cradle, when these are brought, by pivoting, into a position in which they are parallel to one another.
Arms, which can also be U-shaped, are articulated to the base elements, in the vicinity of their free ends, so that these arms can

be brought along the base elements or be folded down and locked, preferably in outwardly inclined positions, so that the body of the cradle is at a relatively high level. The aforementioned arms can advantageously be blocked by means of hooks articulated to said arms in the vicinity of their articulations with respect to the base elements and arranged to come into engagement with the transverse parts of the base elements.
When folded up, the cradles or the like according to the invention are very compact and can be easily transported or packed. When mounted, these cradles can rest firmly by their base on a table, some support or the floor. Finally, if desired, the arms can be separated from each other, so as to support the body of the cradle at substantially the usual height from the floor or the ground.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of a folding cradle according to the invention, the parts of said cradle being in the position in which the body of the cradle is at a relatively high level; Figure 2 is an end view; Figure 3 is a side view similar to that of Figure 1, the arms being folded so that the cradle body is at a lower level, and Figure 4 is a side view of the frames supporting the cradle body. a, a denotes a pair of U-shaped elements hinged to side plates or blocks b.
The flexible material c body of the cradle is presented in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
embodiment shown, in the form of an open trough or container with projecting perforated end walls, so as to allow the insertion of buttons offset by transverse parts of the elements a. d denotes toggle connection pieces connecting the elements a, which, when they occupy the divergent positions shown, are blocked by said connection pieces d.
A cover ¯e can be supported by armatures e1, e2 articulated to one another, e1 being, moreover, articulated to the side branches of an element a. f, f denote the basic elements, articulated to the side plates or blocks b and which, according to the invention, are connected to the elements a by connection pieces g, thanks to which the basic elements f, f are brought and kept in a substantially horizontal position, so that the body of the cradle is at its lowest level. When the elements a are identified, the elements f are placed along them as shown in FIG. 4. h, h denote arms articulated in h 'to the base elements.
These arms are U-shaped and carry the pivots h 'at the free ends of the branches of the U. i, i are hooks articulated to the arms h, h and arranged to be brought into engagement with the transverse parts of the elements f.
To facilitate transport of the cradle, when it is in use, handles are, for example, attached to opposite sides of the supporting members of the cradle body.
