<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Automatic shut-off device for phonographs, pick-ups and other similar devices.
The present invention is similar to an automatic stop device for phonographs, pick-ups and other devices of the same kind, in which this lifting is caused by a sliding rod arranged perpendicular to the rotary plate.
As is well known, in the automatic shut-off devices, which have already been suggested, the parasitic noise of the last furrows after hearing is suppressed by breaking or bypassing the current of the pick-up, which is harmful. for lamps.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to ensure an operation avoiding any interference and any shock in the lamps by means of a mechanism.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
simple, easy to adjust and can be produced in series.
With a view to achieving these goals, this device is characterized in that the sliding rod carries a member such as an arm which is provided with means by which it can be raised or lowered with the intervention of a plate or other gold. - Gane rotated by the phonographic arm and in that these means comprise a spring or an elastic strip causing the arm to be lifted at the end of the hearing.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the sliding rod can act through its lower end on a contactor device capable of closing or opening the supply circuit of the motor controlling the rotation of the disc holder plate.
The control arm wedged on the sliding rod generally carries a roller cooperating with a notch formed in the plate located above this arm and rotated by the phonographic arm and when this roller is brought in front of this notch and there enters, the control arm is lifted and pulls the sliding rod with it.
On the other hand, the control arm integral with the sliding rod can cooperate with stops which are arranged and intervene such that the lifting control base is stopped in its rotational movement while the plate provided with the notch can perform a further slight rotation in order to cause the roller to penetrate into the notch or its exit therefrom.
After being lifted, the phonographic arm is brought back to its rest position by a spring which winds around a fixed part generally constituted by a nozzle housed in the usual fixed support of the end of the arm and which is fixed by its other end in positions adjustable to the control plate participating in the rotation of the phonographic bfas.

The accompanying drawings show by way of non-limiting example how the invention can be carried out in practice.
Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views showing the entire device.
FIG. 1 represents the various organs in the position. which they occupy in the rest position and FIG. 2 shows them in the position which they occupy during the hearing.
Figure 3 is a schematic plan view of the device.
Figures 4 and 5 are detail views intended to illustrate the operation.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates the fixed plate, 2 the turntable and 3 the phonographic arm.
The arm 3 is hollow in the example shown and during its lifting it oscillates around a horizontal axis 4 (fig. 3) carried by two projections 5 integral with an arm 6 in the form of a dish or another member. itself solid equivalent of a sleeve 7 (fig. 3) which passes through the fixed plate 1 and which carries under it a plate 8.
When the arm 3 moves above the disc to be played carried by the turntable 2, the plate 6, the sleeve 7 and the plate 8 are also driven and the sleeve 7 turns like a fixed baselease 9 housed in the usual fixed support 10 of the arm.
In the sleeve 7 can slide from bottom to top and from top to bottom a rod 11 which controls the lifting of the phonographic arm 3 by means of a head 12 and at the lower part of which is mounted, under the plate 8, an arm 13 also in the form of a dish.
This arm 13 carries at its ends and on its edges two small projections 14 traversed by a generally threaded rod 15, the role of which will be explained below.
In the arm 13 is formed a notch 16 in which is housed a roller 17 projecting slightly from
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
port to the upper face of the plate 13 and carried by an axis 171.
On the periphery of the plate 8 is further formed a notch 18 as well as a series of slits 19. These slits serve for hooking in adjustable positions to the end of a spring 20 wound around. of the fixed nozzle 9 and attached to it (fig.6).
On the underside of the plate 1 is fixed for example by screws 211 (fig. 4), a contact holder 21 which comprises a group of two elastic strips 22-221 kept constantly at the same distance by a block of material. insulating 23 and an elastic strip 24 'provided with a contact 25 spaced from the strip 221 in the rest position of the device.
The rod 11 rests on the end of the blade 22 in such a way that, when the roller 17 is in the notch 18 (fig.l) the contact 25 is moved away from the blade 221 while, when this roller touches the solid edge of the plate 8 (fig. 2) the rod 11 exerts pressure on the blades 22-22 and presses the latter against the contact 25.
The strips 221 and 24 are connected to the ends of conductors 26, one of which is connected to the motor M while the other is connected with the arrival of the current.
In FIG. 3, the phonographic arm 3 is shown in solid lines in its rest position.
It then rests on a support formed by the upper edge 27 of a plate deposited vertically on the plate 1 and against a roller 28, for example made of rubber, slid on a projection of this plate; with this vertical plate forms a body a horizontal strip 29 crossed by the axis 30 of a motor adjustment knob M.
In this rest position of the arm, the roller 17 is located in the notch 18 and the contact 25 therefore does not touch the strip 221 so that the current does not flow.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
If, starting from this position, the bfas 3 is lifted slightly and it is moved outwards by passing over the roller 28 to bring it into position 31 (fig. 3 and 4), the assembly formed by the arm 13, the rod 15, the plate 8 and the sleeve 7 is rotated until the arm 13 meets a stop 31 constituted by a rod carried by the plate 1. At this time, the arm 13 stops, but the phonographic arm 3, the plate 8 and the sleeve 7 still perform a slight movement in the same direction until a projection 32 carried by the plate hits the arm 13 (in position 32 ') ; simultaneously, the roller 17 comes out of the notch 18 and comes to occupy near the latter a position in which its periphery is in contact with the underside of the plate 8 near the edge of this plate.
When the roller 17 leaves the notch 18, the arm 13 moves vertically parallel to itself and the rod 11 is driven in a sliding movement from top to bottom so as to act on the block of the slats 22 and 221 and to bring these blades closer to the contact 25.
The motor M is thus supplied with current, the plate 2 begins to rotate and hearing can begin as soon as the arm 3 has been brought to the starting position of hearing.
Throughout the hearing, the phonographic arm 3 drives by the arm 6 and the sleeve 7, the plate 8, the roller 17 and the bfas 13, while the contact remains closed at 221-25.
Towards the end of the hearing, the rod 15 carried by the arm 13 meets a stop 33 (FIG. 5 - position 32 of the phonographic arm) so that this arm 13 is stopped in its movement; arm 3 nevertheless continues its rotation somewhat (position 33, fig. 5), which causes the into-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
duction of the roller 17 in the notch 18 under the effect of the elastic strip 22, so that the arm 13 and the rod 11 perform a sliding movement from top to bottom, which has the effect of causing the break in 221 -25 because the rod 11 stops pressing on the block 22-221. At the same time, the phonographic arm 3 lifts under the action of the rod 11 and the head 12.
The motor supply circuit being interrupted, the motor stops as well as the plate 2 and, under the effect of the spring 20, the plate 8, the arm 13, the sleeve 7 and the phonographic arm 3 are moved in reverse direction until arm 3 meets roller 28 (position 3).
For the initiation of a new hearing, as explained above, the arm 3 at 31 will be brought in and the operation explained above will be repeated.
The arrangement described above considerably simplifies the automatic stop device given, on the one hand, that a single member (rod 11) controlled by the phonographic arm intervenes to act on this arm with a view to releasing it at the end of the operation. hearing of the disc to be played and to simultaneously cause the breaking of the current and, on the other hand, that this same ofgane is used to produce the start of the platter.
In addition, the fact that the arm is lifted exactly at the end of the hearing and that the breaking of the motor casing is simultaneously operated, any parasitic noise originating from the last furrows is avoided.
Finally, the adjustment according to the position of the last groove is particularly easy since it suffices to act on the threaded rod 15 and thus vary the moment of its meeting with the stop 33.
