<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

photographic or cinematographic apparatus a non-inverted reflected image, for focusing and framing.
The object of the present invention is an optical device capable of obtaining, from the very objective of a photographic or cinematographic camera, a non-inverted reflected image for focusing and framing.
Another object of the invention is a device of the indicated type capable of obtaining a non-inverted reflected image of dimensions larger than the format of the photograph, so that the focusing and the framing are easier and more careful.
Yet another object of the invention is a device
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
tif of the kind indicated applicable to any photographic apparatus.
Yet another object of the invention is a device of the kind indicated, which normally gives the reflected image, no longer functioning at the sole moment of taking photographs or. of each frame of a cinematographic film; in the latter case, given the brevity of the interruptions in operation, we also have a persistent image.
One of the main advantages of the focusing and framing device according to the invention consists in the fact that it gives an image free from parallax, thus constituting a universal viewfinder which does not need rectification or focusing. to the point, even if in the cinematographic or photographic apparatus one substitutes, for example, a different lens or any telephoto lens for the normal one.
Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will become evident from the following description.
In general, the invention consists of an optical system applied to photographic or cinematographic cameras of any kind or type, capable of revealing to the eye of the operator the image given by the lens, large- whether or not, said system comprising a movable optical element capable of being placed on or outside the path of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
optical beam coming from the lens.
The invention will be more clearly understood by the following description with reference to the appended schematic drawing which represents by way of example one embodiment, being, however, of course only to the description and to the drawing. one must not give an exclusive or restrictive interpretation in any way.
The drawing represents the optical assembly of a photographic or cinematographic apparatus of any type, incorporating the device according to the invention, the other parts of the apparatus being omitted since they do not form the object of the claim.
We will immediately say that when we speak of mirrors or prisms in the description, these can be substituted, even when we do not say so specifically, respectively by prisms or specular surfaces and frosted glasses, etc. .
In the accompanying drawing 1 is an objective of any type, while 2 is a movable mirror (or equivalent movable prism) capable of taking two positions. In the position shown in the drawing by a continuous line, it is inclined with respect to the axis of the optical beam coming from the ob- jective 1 to reflect it, with the same dimensions as the photograph, on the frosted face 4 of a pentagonal prism 3. Face 4 is arranged so that its distance
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
optical center of the lens is always equal to the distance between said center and the sensitive plate or film, so that, when the image on face 4 is in focus, the photograph is also in focus.
Said mirror 2 can take when each photograph or photogram is taken, for example by means of a mechanism connected to the trigger, the position shown by the interrupted line indicated by 2 ', the position in which said mirror leaves free the normal path of the optical beam from the objective to the plate or film, and on the other hand closes the entry of external light rays inside the device. Naturally, in the position indicated by the continuous line, the mirror 2 completely intercepts the access of the rays to the plate or to the film.
The faces 5 and 6 of the prism 3 are specular and reflect the image which has formed on the frosted face 4 to an eyepiece 7; the path of the axis of the light beam is indicated by the arrowhead line.
The focal length of the eyepiece 7 is equal to the optical distance between said eyepiece and the face 4.
By adopting an eyepiece 7 with the desired magnification coefficient, the image which must be used for focusing and framing can be of the desired size, larger than the format of the photograph or of the photogram.
It should be observed that the optical system constituted by the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
mirror 2 and by faces 4, 5 and 6 of prism 3, or by optical equivalents of this mirror and of these prism faces, will give an uninverted image whatever the position of the successful cinematographic or photographic apparatus thus much more useful to the operator than the known sights.
We repeat that, in practice, it will be possible to adopt modifications or changes without departing from the scope of the invention.
