Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Fig.1 montre différentes vues d'un raccord d'- assemblage d'un tube horizontal avec un tube vertical;
Fig.2 donne des vues d'un raccord d'assemblage des fourreaux de fourche avant avec le tube de tête;

  Process for the manufacture of fittings for the assembly of tubular members and products obtained by means of this process.,
Generally, the connectors are fixed to the tubes constituting for example a bicycle or motorcycle frame by brazing; This method of fixing has the disadvantage of being very expensive, because it requires welding, sandblasting, filing and stripping; at least one or the other of these operations.

   The present invention relates to a new process which makes it possible to eliminate these various operations while providing the assembly with greater strength than that provided by brazing. according to this new process, the fitting is shell-cast directly on the organs.

 born to assemble.

   Thanks to this manufacturing process, the fittings act like hoops on the tubes to be assembled, causing energetic tightening. The cast metal may vary depending on the circumstances, but the use of aluminum bronze is particularly advantageous.

   This method of manufacturing fittings by shell casting can have many industrial applications, the drawing appended to this specification shows, only by way of example, its application to the assembly of tubes forming a bicycle frame. In this drawing:
Fig.1 shows different views of a fitting of a horizontal tube with a vertical tube;
Fig.2 gives views of an assembly connection of the front fork legs with the head tube;
Fig.3 gives a general elevational view of the assembly fittings of a. bicycle frame, and Fig. 4 gives a plan view of the bracket fitting and Fig. 5 a plan view of a fitting of the top tube of the frame with the head tube.

   In accordance with the invention, the usual couplings of drawn steel or the like are replaced by a shell cast part of the same shape directly on the ends of the tubes to be connected.

   For this purpose, metal shells of known type are used in two or more parts, in each of which are hollowed out internally, for example a half-connector and half-channels; the latter being used for the casting and the evacuation of gases. These half-shells are fixed to the ends of the tubes to be connected by means of bolts or similar fixing members. Then, with the usual precautions, metal such as aluminum bronze is poured into one of these channels. The cool-

 Since this takes place almost instantaneously, it will be possible to quickly disassemble the mold and proceed with another casting. It will suffice to remove the burrs, without having to sand, file or strip the braze connection, as at present.

     This is how one operates to manufacture the connector 1 intended to assemble the horizontal tube 2 with the vertical tube 3 (Fig.1). The same is true of the spacer 4, which in Fig.2 serves to connect the sleeves 5 to the head tube 6 of the front fork of a bicycle frame.

   All the connections 7 to 10 shown in Figs. 3 to 5 entering into the assembly of a bicycle frame 11 are also obtained by shell casting, in particular the bracket 10.

   It is understood that for the casting of these shell couplings, all the devices generally used for this type of casting can be used.

  Thus, it may be useful to provide the ends of the tubes to be assembled with notches catching the casting metal.

   REVERDICATIONS.

   1. A method of manufacturing fittings for the assembly of tubular members, characterized in that the coupling is obtained by shell casting directly on the members to be assembled.
