IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PIPE GASKETS WITH PACKING PRESSES
To make the cable gland boxes watertight, they were provided with graphite and charcoal gaskets with additions of oils or greases as binders and as lubricants.
In order to increase the seal which was hampered by certain drawbacks of the compositions such as hardening and carbonization of fatty materials, the addition of any metal and any binder, organic or inorganic, particularly any fatty material, was then eliminated, and fillings of amorphous carbon, such as for example graphite, and pulverized or fiber asbestos, to which soot, talcum powder or pulverized glass have advantageously been added, according to the example. These compositions, although already corresponding better to the required qualities, were nevertheless not entirely satisfactory, their elasticity and their resistance to high pressures still being limited.
The present invention meets all the needs by improving the linings for cable gland boxes characterized by the fact that in addition to amorphous carbon, such as for example graphite, and asbestos, preferably in fibers, the linings include glass wool. In addition, silicates and / or sulfates are added thereto. Very fine glass wool as well as silicates are advantageously used.

and pulverized sulphates.
The gaskets for cable glands are furthermore made up and prepared in different shapes such as, for example, in braids, ropes, plates or any other desired shape, and particularly as sealing rings allowing application without a bottom ring. and / or covered ring generally made of asbestos and / or metal.
Packings for cable glands according to the present invention possess and maintain a much greater elasticity than those known heretofore, thanks to the addition of glass wool and to the elasticity which is characteristic of the invention. the latter. The silicates and sulphates which, in a pulverized state, mix perfectly with the amorphous carbon and the asbestos, keep the surfaces of the moving parts and to be sealed (for example shaft) polished and smooth and consequently to the safe from any corrosion. In addition, by the addition of finely powdered silicates and sulphates, all cracks in the gaskets are effectively sealed so that these gaskets withstand the highest pressures.
