 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  "Coupling for pipes with wedge-shaped fitting".

   Pipe couplings already exist comprising a connector provided with recesses each of which is designed to receive one end of a section of tube or pipe, each of said recesses having a mouth flared outwardly in which a socket is housed. rigid engaged on the pipe and provided with an external surface wedge-shaped or conical inwardly so as to ensure the tightness and to prevent any leakage of fluid.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 of under pressure when tightening a blocking nut.

   With such couplings or joints, it is necessary to provide a slight clearance between the outer diameter of each section of the pipe and the recess in question so as to allow easy fitting. Further, when the nut is tightened, the end of the pipe is able to pivot around the tip of the wedge-shaped socket. Finally, in certain cases, especially when the coupling is subjected to vibrations, it risks loosening since the engaged end of the pipe which is in the recess of the fitting is not recessed.

   There are also pipe couplings using a wedge-shaped socket, the recess of the fitting being tapered into a region below the bearing surface, so that the inner end of the pipe engages it when the joint between the pipe and the coupling is made.

   However, the problem to which the invention applies is independent of those previous constructions in which the wedge-forming sleeve is not a rigid member but a contractile member or else is constituted by an elastic sealing ring having a cylindrical part ( not tapered) which bears and engages intimately against a corresponding fuselage part of the recess of the connector.

   The invention is embodied in a pipe coupling comprising, in combination, a tubular connector provided in each of its branches with a centering recess of the pipe extending from an annular shoulder ensuring the positioning. place of the pipe and forming a fuselage which diverges to the main part of the recess which receives the pipe with a certain clearance and which ends in a flared mouth extending to the external end face of the fitting, a fur of rigid clamping of the pipe fitting over it and having a wedge-shaped outer surface resting on the flared mouth and projecting at its widest end,

   and a block nut

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 ge screwing onto this outer end of the connector and having a stop surface for applying pressure to the protruding end of the fur, so as to axially displace the wedge-shaped surface to bring it into contact with sealing with the wall of said flared mouth while simultaneously forcing the recess of the fur to grip the pipe and move it, so that its internal end comes to bear in the centering part of the recess and s' finally fits tightly against the annular shoulder,

   the part ensuring the centering of the pipe having a taper of the order of two to five degrees to ensure a tight grip of the end of the pipe by the fur and prevent the pipe from pivoting around the tip of the latter as the locking nut is tightened more and more.

   The appended drawing represents, by way of example and in partial section, one of the possible embodiments of the object of the invention which will facilitate understanding and industrial production.

   As shown, the connector 1 forming the body of the coupling has a T-shape and each of its three branches has a recess 2, the part of greater length of which measures a diameter such as a section of pipe 3 s'. fits there without tightening. The central part 4 forming a communication duct which passes right through the fitting measures a diameter slightly smaller than that of the recesses 2 for receiving the sections of the pipe 1 but substantially equal to the bore of this pipe, which saves a shoulder. annular element 2 against which can abut the inner end of each section of the pipe.

   The diameter of the recess 2 at the height of the shoulder 5 is slightly less than the diameter of its longer part, so that a tapered surface 6 ensuring the centering of the end of the pipe section is provided. the internal end of each recess 2. The taper of the surface 6 is of the order of 2 to 5. The length of this tapered part can

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 vary from 3 to 6 millimeters approximately.

   At its outer end, the recess 2 is flared outwardly as shown at 1 with respect to the face of the end of the connector, the wider end of a fur 8 protruding from the flared mouth 1 such that, when the locking nut 2 is tightened, the rigid fur $ with wedge-shaped profile is driven axially in a known manner into the flared mouth 7 The nut 2 has a stop surface 10 which in this case exerts a certain pressure directly against the projecting end of the fur 8. However, the internal end of the pipe section / is centered and gripped by the tapered surface 6, and xxxx any pivoting movement relative to at the tip that is to say with respect to the engagement edge of the wedge $ is therefore prevented.

   Construction details may vary without departing from the invention,
