<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Thread advance adjustment device.
The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the advance of the thread in chain stitch sewing machines, a device characterized in that, when the needle is introduced into the fabric, in the thread loop, a movable part of the needle driving member (needle rod or the like) extracted from the usual tensioner, the strand which goes to the eye can automatically lock under the sole effect of the tension that the thread suffered at this time.
Is mounted, preferably, in the action zone of the part of the needle drive mechanism which causes the advance of the thread, min thread lock consisting of a fixed part and a driven part by the tension of the thread despite the antagonistic action of a return force, the strand of the loop which goes to the eye being clamped between the locking edges of these parts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The thread lock according to the invention can be produced by means of a simple and inexpensive sheet metal cutout which is easy to mount on any chain-stitch sewing machine; this device makes unnecessary the special devices used until now for this purpose, devices coupled positively with the mechanism of the machine, which must correspond to the design of the machine in question, and which significantly increase the price thereof.
Two embodiments of the invention have been shown in the accompanying drawing, in which: Figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, an end view in partial section and a plan view of the head of a stitching machine. hidden point, on which the device for adjusting the thread advance is mounted; FIG. 3 shows the organization of this device on the head of a machine with a needle shank subjected to a rectilinear movement.
On the head 1 of a concealed stitching machine or on the hollow arm 2 of this closed machine on the side of use, a transverse shaft 3, controlled by the main shaft, pivots. On the other end housed in the hollow arm 2, of this shaft 3 is blocked by means of a threaded collar 4 a lever with two arms, one arm 5 of which carries the support for the curved needle 7 as well as the device 8 wire feed, and the other arm 9 of which has the shape of a circular sector and serves to drive the wire clamp (not shown). A radially directed finger 10 is screwed onto the periphery of the sector 9, and in its middle, which projects through a transverse slot 11 of the hollow arm 2 and which adjusts the advance of the thread in cooperation with an automatic thread lock. 12.
This thread blocker consists of a cutout 12 having the shape shown in Figures 1 and 2, and a lever with two arms 13 which can easily oscillate on an extension provided at the lower part of the part 12, this lever being fitted on one of its arms with a counterweight.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The part 12 is fixed on the arm 2 using a bracket 12a folded at a right angle, and by legs 12b folded downwards it rests on the rear face of the light 11. The vertical front face of the part 12 comprises, at its upper part, two notches of different widths, which are separated by a tab 12c, projecting from the plane of this upper part by a length substantially equal to the thickness of the sheet. Between this leg 12c and a projection 12d, arriving at its level and provided on the second leg which limits the widest notch, can oscillate, with a very short stroke, the arm 13a of the double lever 13, this arm being provided with 'an opening for the passage of the wire 14, and the counterweight 13b tending to apply it to the projection 12d.
The wire 14 comes from the spool not shown, passes through the conventional tensioner 15 mounted on the head of the machine 1, passes through the opening 13a of the oscillating lever 13, passes through the space between its bearing edge and the tab 12c, passes behind the latter, returns to the front through the small notch 12e made on the left and passes through the hole 12f made at the end of the part 12 which protrudes laterally from the head of the machine, then reaches the hole of the feed device 8 and finally the eye of the needle 7.
In the position shown in solid lines of the needle support 6 and of the oscillating lever 5-4-9 carrying the thread advance rod 10, position corresponding to the end of the return stroke of the needle, the thread 14 is not stretched so that the arm 13a of the lever 13, which it passes through, rests on the stop 12d of the thread blocker 12 under the effect of its counterweight 13b. The wire 14 is therefore not clamped in the open space between the tab 12c and the arm 13a. When the needle enters the fabric, the rod 10 mounted on the segment 9 of the lever 4-5-9 pushes back the part of this thread which is between the tensioner 15 and the arm 13a, and forms the loop 14 'shown in dotted, so that the wire 14, while stretching, applies the arm 13a of the lever 13 against the tab
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
12c of the thread blocker 12.
In this way, the part of the thread 14 which passes through the notch 12e is automatically blocked and the loop 14 'is formed only by the thread coming from the tensioner 15. When the needle arm 5, and therefore the rod 10, returns back the weight of the lever 13b causes the automatic release of the wire 14 between the arm 13a of the lever 13 and the tab 12c of the wire blocker.
In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the thread blocker 12 is fixed to the front of the head 1 of a sewing machine comprising a needle shank 16 for conventional rectilinear drive, so that its elements useful above head 1. The thread blocker again consists of a vertical plate 12, which, however, is held in a position perpendicular to that of the embodiment of figs. 1 and 2 by an angled fixing lug 12a of the cutout, this plate is parallel to the front face of the head 1 and is located a little in front of the latter.
On a lateral recess of the plate 12, is mounted an oscillating lever 13 whose horizontal arm 13a, provided with the thread passage hole, can oscillate again with a small stroke between the two projections 12c, limiting the two notches of the plate 12, and 12d formed for example by folding back the upper part of this recess, so that the arm 13b, directed downwards, tends to apply the arm 13a against the projection 12d.
The advance of the thread is effected in this case by the needle rod 16 itself, the upper end of which has a hole 16a for the passage of the thread, hole which brings the thread 14, coming from the tensioner not shown, to the arm hole 13a behind the projection 12d; by the space comprised between the locking edges of this lever and of the projection 12c, the wire then passes behind the latter and passes through the small notch 12e and the hole 12f made in the lower part of the plate 12, then it reaches the thread advancement device, not shown, or the eye of the needle.
The operation is identical to that which was described for @
