<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Les figures 2 à 5 représentent un sac à ses différents stades de fabrication , à savoir: La figure 2 : sac à fond croisé avec soupape, le fond étant développé et muni d'un couvre-joint collé destiné au renforcement de la soupape; La figure 3 : sac à fond croisé avec soupape encollée ; La figure 4 : lemême sac avec ses abattants laté- raux repliés et le renfort de soupape marqué d'un pli;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Method of making a cross-bottom bag with bottom cover sheet and reinforced valve".
It is known that, in a valve bag with a crossed bottom, it is particularly advantageous for the bearing surface of the sealing valve to be as large as possible.
This is the reason why the upper part of the valve, formed by the side flaps at the bottom, is extended outwards by a special valve part or by the bottom cover sheet. When filling the bag through the tube of the filling machine, such a valve extended outward is subjected
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to a fairly considerable force, which can easily cause tears on the part forming the extension of the valve. It has already been proposed, in order to avoid these tears, to extend the cover sheet of the bottom beyond the angles of the orifice of the valve, then to fold these extensions inside this orifice.
This device nevertheless has the serious drawback that the longitudinal fold of the cover sheet cannot be used for reinforcing or for sealing the bottom. This is only possible by making special cuts, which can only be done by hand.
It is also known to extend the valve outwardly through the cover sheet and to fold the latter simultaneously around the longitudinal side of the bottom and over the rim of the valve. This arrangement does not however make it possible to obtain sufficient resistance to the forces to which the bag is subjected during filling.
Indeed, the reinforcing element formed by the cover sheet da bottom applied to the lips of the valve does not surround the side flaps of the bottom, that is to say does not penetrate into the orifice of the valve. the valve, since this element is simply glued to the bottom. In addition, the valve thus extended through the bottom cover sheet has no reduced bonding surface and risks being torn off by the tube during the filling operation, owing to the high force to which is subjected. the bag.
The object of the present invention is to enable the fully automatic manufacture of a cross-bottom bag with a valve, the bottom cover sheet of which has a longitudinal fold and which further comprises a valve reinforcement made of elm valve cover. glued in the valve channel and folded over the side flaps at the bottom. This
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
result is obtained by gluing a joint cover on the internal face of the lower flap of the developed cross base, in such a way that said joint cover goes beyond the angles of the valve channel which is formed. when folding the side flaps. This protruding part is folded over and glued to the outer face of the base after completion of the latter, the fold thus formed constituting a reinforcement for the edge of the valve.
The bottom cover sheet is then fed and glued to the edge of the valve and then, during subsequent bag manufacturing operations, folded over the longitudinal edges of the bottom.
The description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawings given by way of non-limiting example, will make it possible to better understand the invention.
FIG. 1 schematically represents a machine intended for implementing the method, which is the subject of the invention.
Figures 2 to 5 show a bag in its various stages of manufacture, namely: Figure 2: cross-bottom bag with valve, the bottom being developed and provided with a glued joint cover intended to strengthen the valve; Figure 3: cross bottom bag with glued valve; Figure 4: the same bag with its folded side flaps and the valve reinforcement marked with a fold;
Figure 5: the same sact finished with bottom cover sheet folded longitudinally and glued, and with joint cover glued inside the valve orifice and folded outwardly on the bottom.
The method of carrying out the method is as follows: the open tubes are conveyed by the conveyor table, and perpendicular to the direction of advance,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to the various machine devices. They first pass over the two cylinders 1 and 2, where they receive the valve reinforcement constituted by the joint cover 3. This is taken from the reserve roll 4 by the supplier 5 and cut to the desired length by the cutting device 6. They are then taken up by the cylinder by means of claws or needles and brought to the gluing device 7.
After gluing the joint cover 3 on the internal face of the lower side flap 14 (fig.2) each bag is led by the conveyor rollers 8 and 9 to the gluing device 10. The glue is deposited by a gluing segment on the bottom, at the hatched locations (fig. 3).
The transport rollers 11 and 12 lead the bag to a folding device 13. The side flaps 14 to 17 of the bottom (fig.4) are folded over one another and the bottoms closed. The joint cover 3 thus forms a valve extended outwards and glued to the side flaps 14 and 15.
The bag is then brought between the cylinders 21 and 22. The segment 19 takes a certain quantity of glue from the reservoir 18 and deposits it on the arm 20 which in turn glues the hatched surface 3a (fig.4) of the protruding end of the joint cover 3. Next to the gluing system is arranged a folding knife 23, cooperating with a groove of the cylinder 22, which folds the projecting part 3a of the joint cover 3 on the corners of the valve channel. The folding plate 24 then folds the protruding part 3a of the joint cover over the upper edge of the bottom.
The plate 24 is mounted to pivot on the axis 25 and is connected to the lever 26 which is controlled by the eccentric 28 by means of the roller 27.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The conveyor rollers 29 and 30 lead the bag under the system for laying the bottom cover sheet. A supplier 32 brings a strip of paper taken from the reserve roll 31 to the cutting device 33, which cuts it to length. It is then taken up by cylinder 34 by means of claws or needles, glued by segment 35 and then placed on the bag. Reservoir 36 provides glue to segment 35.
The bag is then fed by the conveyor rollers 37 and 38 along the folding device 39, and the bottom cover sheet is folded over the outer edge thereof, so that the bag has the shape shown in figure 5.
It goes without saying that, without departing from the scope of the invention, modifications can be made to the embodiment which has just been described.
