    "   HORLOGE   ELECTRIQUE   "

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

    "ELECTRIC CLOCK"

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to an electric clock in which the shaft of the minute hand is driven from the shaft of the seconds hand by a mechanical link.

   Electric clocks of this type are known in which the electric motor, which rotates continuously at a speed generally greater than 10,000 revolutions per hour, drives the shaft of the minute hand by means of 'a large number of toothed wheels, one of which is wedged on the shaft of the seconds hand which is parallel to the shaft of the minute hand.

   On the other hand, electric clocks are known in which the shaft of the minute hand is driven by the electric motor without intervention of the shaft carrying the seconds hand. In this case, two worm reducers are mounted in series between the shaft of the minute hand and the motor, but since the output shaft of the first of these worm reducers is perpendicular to the output shaft of the other reducer of the same kind, these two shafts cannot carry the seconds hand and the minute hand respectively, even in the case where one turns sixty times faster than the other.

   These clocks must therefore include a third speed reducer controlled by the same shaft as that which controls the first of the aforementioned two series reducers, this third speed reducer being arranged so that its output shaft (which carries the needle - the seconds) is parallel to the output shaft of the second of the speed reducers mounted in series (this last output shaft carrying the minute hand).

   The object of the present invention is an electric clock of simpler construction than that of known clocks.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   In the electric clock according to the invention, the mechanical link which controls the rotation of the shaft of the minute hand from the shaft of the second hand comprises a toothed wheel wedged on the shaft. shaft of the minute hand with which is engaged a pawl held in contact with a spiral cam wedged on the shaft of the seconds hand, increasing the radius of the spiral cam to 360 of that this being chosen so as to cause a rotation of 6 of the toothed wheel, by means of the pawl.

   The ratchet mechanism used in combination with the spiral cam rotated by an electric motor with continuous rotational movement is therefore essentially different from the ratchet mechanism used to control the movements of the minute hand of certain public clocks in which said needle tends to be rotated by a mechanical motor or by an impulse electric motor but is prevented from moving when the aforesaid pawl has not been released from a ratchet wheel with which it constitutes a release mechanism .

   According to an advantageous embodiment, the aforesaid pawl is articulated with respect to a lever which is applied against the spiral cam and which pivots at a point further from its point of contact with this cam than the point of articulation of the cam. pawl.

   Preferably, the aforesaid pawl is disposed, relative to the toothed wheel with which it is engaged, so as to rotate the latter while it is away from the axis of rotation of the cam by the profile. spiral thereof.

   Thanks to this last variant, the rotational movement of the minute hand is only interrupted during the small instant of passage of the projection which separates the large radius from the small radius of the spiral.

   Other features and details of the invention apply.

 will appear during the description of the drawings appended hereto, which represent schematically, and by way of example only, some embodiments of the electric clock according to the invention.

   FIG. 3 is a front view of the dial of another electric clock according to the invention.

   Figure 4 is a perspective view of the mechanism used to control the minutes and seconds trees of the clock according to Figure 3.

   Figure 5 is an elevational view of another embodiment of a mechanism for controlling the minute and second hands in an electric clock according to Figure 1.

   FIG. 6 represents a variant of a spiral cam used in a clock according to the invention.

   In these different figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.

     In Figure 1, there is shown the dial 2 of an electric clock comprising a seconds hand 3, a minute hand 4 and an hour hand 5.

  These last two needles are carried by coaxial shafts. The shaft 6, which carries the seconds hand 3, is directed parallel to the shaft 7, which carries the minute hand 4, at a certain distance therefrom.

   The shaft 7 is driven from the shaft 6 ======== by a mechanical connection which comprises a toothed wheel 8 (figure 2) wedged on the shaft 7 and a pawl 9 which is engaged with this wheel. Customer engagement

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 -quet 9 in the teeth of the wheel 8 is operated by a spring 10 which bears on a lever 11 relative to which the pawl 9 pivots at 12.

   The lever 11 can pivot around a pivot 13 and carries a pin 14 maintained in contact with a spiral cam 15 under the action of a spring 16. The pivot 13 of the lever 11 is further from the point of contact of the spindle 14 with the spiral cam 15 as the articulation point 12 of the pawl 9. The spiral cam 15 is wedged on the shaft 6. The increase in the radius of this cam, for a rotation of 360 thereof in the direction of arrow X, is chosen so as to cause a rotation of 6 in the direction of arrow Y of toothed wheel 8.

   The nose of the pawl 9 is disposed relative to the toothed wheel 8 so as to rotate the latter in the direction of the yoke Y while it is away from the axis of rotation of the cam 15 rotating in the direction of the arrow X, by the spiral profile of this cam. As a result, during the rotation of the cam 15, it is only when the projection 17 of the latter passes into contact with the pin 14 that the toothed wheel 8 ceases to be driven in the direction of the arrow Y.

   While the spindle 14 is brought back towards the axis of rotation of the cam 15, under the action of the spring 16, the pawl 9 is released from the teeth of the toothed wheel 8 thanks to its inclined face 18.

   The minute hand 4 carried by the shaft 7 therefore moves / practically continuously. In order to regulate the movement of the minute hand 4, the toothed wheel 8 is subjected to the action of a brake. This consists of a leaf spring 19 in contact with the teeth of the wheel 8 and is arranged so as to prevent, by its penetration between two teeth when the pawl 9 is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 returned in the direction of the arrow Z towards the axis of the spiral cam 15, the rotation of the toothed wheel 8 in the opposite direction of the arrow Y.

   The shaft 6 carrying the seconds hand is controlled from an electric motor contained in a housing 20, by means of a pinion 21 meshing with a toothed wheel 22 and a speed reducer. worm screw.

   The shaft 23 coming out of the electric motor and carrying the pinion 21 rotates at a very high speed and the ratio of the numbers of teeth of the pinion 21 and the toothed wheel 22 is chosen so that the shaft 24 on which the latter wheel is rigged rotated at a speed of 3,600 revolutions per hour.

   On the shaft 24 is wedged a disc 25 at the periphery of which a strip 26 has been cut over a little less than a quarter of a turn which has been deformed along an essentially helical surface by translation of its end lip 27 parallel to the axis of the disc 25.

   The amplitude of the deformation parallel to this axis is such that when the free end of the deformed strip leaves the gap between two teeth of a toothed wheel 28 in which it is engaged, the part 29 of the disc enters a gap adjacent to the teeth of this wheel 28.

  This comprises sixty teeth and is wedged on the shaft 6, which is perpendicular in space to the shaft 24.

   The disc 25 with its deformed band 26 therefore constitutes a helical cam playing the role of the input worm of a worm speed reducer whose output wheel 28 rotates at a speed sixty times slower than that of the shaft 24, that is to say at a speed of 60 revolutions per hour.

   In Figure 3, there is shown the dial of another electric clock according to the invention in which the seconds hand 3 is coaxial with the minute hands and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 hours denoted by 4 and 5 respectively. This clock comprises a mechanism similar to that which has just been described for actuating the minute hand from the seconds hand.

   This new mechanism, which is shown in FIG. 4, differs from that shown in FIG. 2 only in that the lever which carries the pawl 9 is an angled lever.

  This angled lever has been designated by 11 = in Figure 4.

   Instead of using a worm gear reducer to operate the shaft 6 carrying the seconds hand from a shaft rotating at 3,600 revolutions per hour, a spiral cam mechanism could be used. pawl similar to that shown in Figure 2. The control of the minute hand shaft from the electric motor, passing through the seconds hand shaft, could then be carried out as shown schematically in Figure 5.

   All the reference notations assigned by the sign have a role similar to that of the elements designated by the same reference notations without the sign "'".

   This embodiment has the advantage of requiring for the transmission of the rotational movement of the motor to the shaft of the minute hand only twice the elements used to transmit the rotation of the shaft of the minute hand. seconds hand to the shaft of the minute hand.

   The shaft 24 'carrying the spiral cam 15' must be parallel to the shaft carrying the seconds hand, instead of being perpendicular to the latter shaft, as is the case in figure 2 .

   In this embodiment, the seconds hand moves almost continuously.

   If we want it to move in a discontinuous movement as in the case of Figures 2 and 4, a spiral profile is chosen for the spiral cam which, instead of extending over

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 roughly 3600 only spans a much smaller fraction of a turn. A spiral cam having such a profile is shown in Figure 6 where it is designated 15 ".

   It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of some of the elements involved in its realization, provided that these modifications are not inconsistent with the purpose of each of the following claims.
