La figure 1 montre une forme de l'invention à l'état déplié; la figure  montre une disposition de la forrje représentée à la figure 1; la figure 3 illustre une autre disposition du fichu montré à la figure 1; la figure 4 est une autre disposition du fichu nontré à la figure 1;

"Improvements made or relating to a clothing item".
This invention relates to an article of clothing and more particularly to a type of kerchief, new and improved compared to what is known.
An important object of the present invention is to provide
a kerchief which can be worn in a variety of arrangements, that is, as a hairstyle hanging off the shoulders or floating, hat, cape or collar, gimp, belt and as a blouse.
Another object is to provide an article which can be adapted to be used according to numerous arrangements without providing for special fixing means and without losing its primary simplicity of manufacture.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided an article of clothing comprising a fabric kerchief having an obliquely cut opening defining a slit in the fabric, the opening being measured and appropriately adjusted to receive the head.
of the person wearing the kerchief.
The kerchief object of this invention can be of any suitable fabric or fabric and can be of any shape desired, i.e., rectangular, elliptical, circular, star or irregular. A slit or narrow opening is provided in the fabric, the slit being of sufficient size to accommodate the head of the wearer. The slit is cut along the bias of the fabric so that it has a degree of elasticity which is advantageous in arranging the kerchief for use, as will appear more fully below.
Reference is made to the drawing to give a description of one form of the invention and of various arrangements which can be made with the invention.
Figure 1 shows one form of the invention in the unfolded state; figure  shows an arrangement of the forrje shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 illustrates another arrangement of the kerchief shown in Figure 1; Figure 4 is another arrangement of the kerchief shown in Figure 1;
Figures 5 and 6 are front and back views of yet another arrangement of the kerchief; and Figure 7 is a detail of a form of border for opening the kerchief.
One form that the invention can take is illustrated by

which also lends itself to be used alternately as a blouse or blouse or else if desired, the fabric can be such that its use is limited either to that of a hairstyle or to that of
<EMI ID = 2.1>
However, the fabric should naturally be suitable for wearing and as a blouse and as a headdress.
The kerchief 10, in figure 1, is a square piece of fabric which has been cut according to the weave of the fabric. A slit or opening 11 is cut along the bias of the weave and, in the shape shown, is cut along the line of diagonal 12, indicated by the dashed line between the opposing corners.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
Size of the fabric, the size of the opening 11 and the position of the slit or opening 11 in the fabric can be of any suitable size. A typical measure that we found to be desirable

sant the sides of the face. The slit is cut along the bias
fabric to give the opening a degree of stretch. It has been found that the continuous elasticity of the slit can

kerchief hangs down in front and the end 16 is placed beyond the head and goes down to the back. The wedges 14 and 15 which hang down either side of the head, as shown in Figure 2, can be pulled together and tied in front, under the chin of the person wearing the kerchief, or can be pulled back behind the head and properly tied.

folded on itself along a line indicated by the dashed line 20, in figure 1. After which, the person who is to wear the kerchief passes the slit 11 on the back of the head, his hair being held in place by the elastic pressure of the lips of the opening, the elastic pressure further tending to secure the

appears in figure 4, the kerchief being worn with the end short

tied at the back, as shown in Figure 6. Several varied blouse arrangements can be made by slight adjustments to the kerchief. First, by pulling the wedge 13 lower in the back so that the end 19 of the slit 11 is placed at the base of the groove, a neckline is produced in front of it which is placed high. In this
<EMI ID = 16.1>
knot 21 is higher or lower than in the position shown in figure 6, the appearance of the front of the gown can be changed to pass from the gown of the low neck type, in the highest position, appropriate as beachwear, to a long waist blouse, for the lowest position, suitable as a dressier garment.
It emerges from the foregoing description relating to the multiplicity of possible aspects of the simple form of the invention described, that various variations in size and form, considered in the context of the invention, can provide several other arrangements.
The kerchief shown in the different figures can also be adapted for use as an ordinary square kerchief which is mostly used as a hairstyle by folding the kerchief over
<EMI ID = 17.1>
according to which the traction is exerted on the fabric, tends to enclose and secure the material close to the wedge 16 which has been passed through it.
<EMI ID = 18.1> appearance and a considerably larger fabric area is usable in carrying out the various arrangements briefly described above.
The kerchief of this invention may be suitably decorated by means of a design which is woven, printed or otherwise applied. It should be noted that, since the kerchief can be used in the fully unfolded as well as folded state, the design can be designed to take maximum advantage of the complete surface of the kerchief and can be arranged in so that different aspects appear when the kerchief is used in the folded state or in the fully extended state. For example, the scarf can be a solid color, as indicated by the dotted line, in the triangular part
<EMI ID = 19.1>. ': The defined by the corners 14, 15 and 16 a suitable design, floral or other, as indicated by the nixte line, can be performed on a background contrasting with the solid color of the first triangle men- <EMI ID = 20.1>

When the scarf is used in unfolded arrangements such as those shown in Figures 2, 4, 5 and 6, virtually the entire design of the scarf can be laid out as the position of the slit, as shown and described, allows for greater use of the extent or central portion of the material and there is no loss of that material or design by bending. The drawing
<EMI ID = 22.1> designs that give different effects when the kerchief is worn in different arrangements.
When the slot 11 is opened and spread slightly to
<EMI ID = 23.1>
rounding is given to the material close to the slot, i.e. the spacing of the slot tends to make the material close such that it follows the shape of the head, which constitutes a very appreciable additional advantage of invention.
As noted above, the kerchief of this invention can be made of any fabric which is suitable for the type of garment in question and no time will be spent on designating specific tiqsus. However, a particular fabric, which should be mentioned because of its particular utility, is a rainproof or waterproof type of fabric or an ordinary fabric impregnated with a rainproofing agent, which can be used with particular advantage as a type of headdress for the rain, in the case of figures and 3, or as a cape for the rain, in the case of figure 4.
Another particularly useful way of adapting this invention to use is with a type of kitchen coat or apron, the kerchief, being positioned as shown at 5 and 6, leaving the wedge 16 down in front as far as possible. The advantage of this arrangement is that the waistband and upper arms are better protected than they are usually with the common type of apron. For this use, a waterproof fabric is desirable.
The drawings and the description given above are given
by way of example of one form of the invention and the possibility of making variations on the embodiments described above will be appreciated.
