 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

   Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings show a vertically arranged cylindrical steam generator and superheater unit having an upper cylindrical body of steam and water 10 and a lower water chamber 12 connected and made integral with one of them. the other by a central descending column 14 of relatively large diameter. Body 10, drop column 14 and chamber 12 are joined by welding. The walls of the body and the chamber are thicker than the walls of the descending column and the body as well as the chamber have cylindrical parts pierced with holes to receive tubes and thicker than the heads or bottoms of the body and the chamber. bedroom. The body has an upper cylindrical part adjacent to the middle cylindrical part and of larger diameter than the latter.

   The cylindrical body, the downcomer and the chamber are established along a central line and arranged coaxially with an outer wall

 indicated generically at 16, which comprises a central or main cylindrical part and upper and lower elliptical ends or ends, and inside which are arranged the vaporizing tubes and the steam superheating tubes o A bundle of vaporizing tubes is generically indicated at 18 in Figures 2 and 3 and a superheater is generically indicated at 20.

   The vaporizing tubes of the tube bundle are, as shown in Fig. 3, arranged in radial rows most of which extend approximately from the downcomer 14 to the outer wall 16 and the inlets of the tubes are connected to the water chamber 12 while their outlets are connected to the steam body and of water 10 as shown in Figo 2.

   A portion of the combustion gases for heating the tubes are generated in a fireplace 22, heated by a burner 24, and the gases coming from this fireplace flow in the direction of arrows 25, 26 and 27 to the flue 30, thus circulating between the vaporizing tubes of the bundle 18. The vaporizing tubes are also heated by the gases of a combustion chamber 60, after passing these gases over the superheater 200
The gases from the combustion chamber 22 first encounter a screen 32 (Fig. 3) of relatively large diameter vaporizing tubes connected to the chamber 12 and to the body of steam and water 10 in a similar manner. to that of which the tubes of relatively small diameter of the bundle 18 are connected.

   Shield 32 acts as a protective shield against radiant heat for the small diameter tubes with relatively close spacing of tube bundle 18.

   A wall of the furnace 22 forming a baffle on the left side of the burner 24 (Figo 3), is formed by vertical tubes 34, radially spaced apart and arranged in a radial row, these tubes being provided only in the zone located near the burner 24, dowels and refractory material 36 closing the spaces between the tubes. The gases coming from the gas path enclosing the superheater 20 can easily reach the furnace 22 above and below the baffle wall The construction of the latter is generally similar to the tube wall with spikes shown in FIG. 3 of UK Patent No. 433,834.

   The outer wall of the combustion chamber 22, with the associated gas path for the bundle of vaporizing tubes 18 is summarily indicated by the vertical wall tubes such as 40 to 44, these tubes being connected at their lower ends to the water chamber 12 and at their upper ends to the body of steam and water 10, the space between these tubes being closed by a device with pins and refractory material similar to that of the baffle wall of which the tubes form part 34.

   The opening 50 for the burner of the combustion chamber 22 is formed by an annular body of refractory material 52 supported and cooled by wall tubes similar to tubes 40 to 44 and other wall tubes 54 to 57 which are curved so as to deviate from the shape corresponding to the wall in the region of the opening 50 of the burner in order to adapt to the shape of the burner opening and protect it cio
A combustion chamber similarly established to operate under superheat conditions and arranged to be heated by a burner 62 is indicated at 600 The gases produced in the combustion chamber 60 flow generally in the direction of arrows 64 to 67 and above and below the baffle wall formed by the dowels and the material

  refractory 36 combined with the tubes 34, to go into the combustion chamber 22 and from there through the bundle of vaporizing tubes 18 into the flue 30.

   The outer walls of the combustion chamber 60 and of the gas path of the related superheater are formed by tubes 70 to 74, the connections of which are established like those of the outer wall tubes 40 to 44 and the space between them. is closed, as in the case of the latter. The combustion chamber 60 is also delimited by a side wall.

 dial shown as a whole at 80% and formed of a dowel tube arrangement with refractory material and a similar wall 90 extending radially from the downcomer 14 to an arcuate wall 92 which is formed in a manner similar by plug tubes with refractory material, the tubes of the wall 92 being vertical and connected to the water chamber 12 and to the body of steam and water 10.

   Between the combustion chamber 60 and the gas path of the superheater formed between the arcuate wall 92 and the external wall 16, there is a protective screen against the radiant heat 94 comprising three radial rows of vaporizing tubes of large diameter, arranged on relatively wide centers. The different rows of these tubes are indicated at 96, 97 and 98, the rows 96 and 97 extending inwardly in front of the wall 90.

   The rows of tubes 96, 97 and 98, like the radial rows of tubes of the tube bundle 18 and the radial row of tubes of the wall 80 extend inwardly to a point in the immediate vicinity of the vaporizing tubes. 110-113 arranged in a circle and in a position contiguous with the downcomer 14 to protect the latter from the hot gases of combustion. The manner in which groups of like tubes located internally of the wall 92, with respect to the combustion chamber 22 and with respect to the tube bundle 18 respectively, are formed and connected to the body 1a and to the chamber 12, is indicated by the tubes 110 to 111 in FIG. 1 and the tube 113 in FIG. 2. Tube 112 on the inner side of screen 94 is similar to tube 113.

   Two rows of downcomer tubes, such as 111 and 111 'are arranged directly in front of burner 24, and rows of tubes established in a similar fashion are arranged in front of burner 62 (Fig. 3).

   The arcuate rows of contiguous tubes such as 111 and 111 '(Figo 1) have their upper parts 115 disposed along the surface of the cylindrical body 10 and their lower parts 116 disposed in a similar fashion on the surface of the chamber. 12. The upper ends of the tubes of the contiguous rows may be arranged in a circumferential row, where they are connected to the large diameter portion of the body 10, while the lower ends are connected in a similar manner to the body. bedroom 12.

   The vaporizing tubes communicate at their upper ends with an annular inlet chamber 120 (Figo 1) formed between the wall of the vapor and water chamber 10 and a concentric inner wall 122 of circular cross section.

   The wall 122 has a constricted lower part 124 communicating with the downcomer 14 by means of a centrifugal inhibitor or cyclone 126 and forming the lower part of a chamber for the reception of the separated water discharged from a chamber. cylindrical swirl 130 up and down through an annular opening 1320
The mixture of steam and water from the vaporizing tubes rises into the inlet chamber 120 in the direction indicated by arrows 136, 137 and 138 to pass through tangential inlet passages 140 at the top of the swirl chamber 130.

   The vapor separated within the swirl chamber. 130 rises vertically through an auxiliary separator 142 into the vapor space of the cylindrical body 10, from where it descends through vertical conduits such as 144, 146 constituting parts of some of the guide vanes forming the passages 40 towards the extensions 150 and 152 of an inlet manifold 154 of the overheater.

   From the inlet manifold 154 the steam passes through bundles of superheater tubes 160 to 163 having tubes bent in the opposite direction as shown in Figa 4. From these tubes, the steam passes into an outlet manifold. 166 and thence through a tubular connection 168 to a location where it is further processed or used.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   The specific form of construction of the steam and water separator of which the swirl chamber 130 forms a part is shown and claimed in the patent application filed today in the name of the applicant.
Water can be supplied to chamber 12 through a feedwater inlet tubing 200 including a tubular member 202 passing through the bottom wall of the chamber.

   The cylindrical wall 16 of the steam generator and superheater unit, together with the wall tubes 40 to 44 and 70 to 74, comprises a metal casing 180, cylindrical as a whole, with a layer of thermal insulation 182 interposed between this envelope and the vertical wall tubes. On the outside of the metal casing 182 is an outer layer 184 of thermal insulation disposed between suitably spaced metal supports 190-195 attached to the casing.
180.

   The group is supported and held in place by a circular support fixed to the base of the central monobloc system consisting of the body of steam and water, the descending column and the water chamber and comprising the elements 204 and 206. D ' other support members 208 are disposed radially around the casing 180 and are firmly attached thereto.

   The lower end of the casing 180 is attached to the chamber 12 at 179, and the upper end of the casing is attached to the wall of the body 10 as shown in FIG. 5. As shown, the casing 180 is welded at 220 to a collar 222 which is positively attached, and under conditions ensuring the fluid tightness under pressure, to the wall of the body 10 by the metal ring 224, the related fasteners 226 to 228 and a packing braid 230.

   The purpose of this device and a similar device at the bottom of the casing is to create gas-tight seals between the central one-piece pressurized system and the casing. 180, to enable the unit to operate efficiently under relatively high positive pressures of the combustion gases.

   In use, the combustion chambers 22 and 60 are supplied with high pressure air and the chamber 60 is heated to achieve the desired superheat temperature, while the chamber 22 is heated to meet the demand for steam. .

   The variants shown in Figs. 6 to 9 are similar to the embodiment described above in that each comprises a central monobloc pressurized system comprising a body of steam and water, a descending column and a water chamber, similar to those shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and a cylindrical wall comprising a metal casing arranged around the pressurized system and assembled to the body and the chamber in a sealed manner with regard to the existing pressure o Each of the variants also comprises a bundle of vaporizing tubes and a bundle of superheater tubes arranged inside the annular space between the wall and the system under pressure.

   The variant shown in FIG. 6 has two hearths 250 and 252 separated by a radial vertical wall 254 which contains vaporizing tubes such as 256, 257 and 258 provided with pins projecting into the spaces between the tubes and covered with refractory material 260. The wall extends from outer casing wall tubes such as 262 at a point near the downcomer 264.

   Fireplaces 250 and 252 may be separately serviced by burners such as those indicated at 264 and 266, these burners being established in suitable openings similar to those previously described.

   The burners are arranged on the side of the installation opposite the flue 268, so that the gases from the fireplaces must flow in opposite and approximately semi-circular gas paths. In the left gas path, the gases flow through a bundle of superheater tubes 270, similar in construction to that previously described,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 established between a partition of the intermediate gas path 272 formed by plug tubes with refractory material and the adjacent part of the outer wall.

   Superheater 270 is protected by a radial bundle of shield tubes 274, disposed between burner 264 and the superheater, the tubes being of relatively large diameter, widely spaced from each other and connected at their upper and lower ends to the superheater. body of steam and water and to the water chamber respectively. The screen tube bundle also protects the vaporizer tube bundle 276 disposed between the partition 272 and the downcomer. Thus, the high temperature gases from the combustion chamber 250 pass over the screen tubes 274 and are divided by the partition 272, some of these gases coming into contact with the tubes of the superheater 270 and others passing over. vaporizing tubes 276.

   Beyond the superheater and the vaporizing tubes 276, the gases meet and pass over part of a bundle of vaporizing tubes 278 connected to the body of steam and water and to the water chamber and established in a space s' extending between one end of bulkhead 272 and a bundle of screen tubes 280, as clearly shown in the drawings.

   The gases from the combustion chamber 250 passing partially through the vaporizing tube bundle 278, join with other combustion gases from the hearth 252 and escape from the group through the flue 268, in which the gas stream is regulated by a register 282. The gases from the combustion chamber 252 pass first over the tube screen 280 and then through part of the vaporizing tube bundle 278 to join the gases from the combustion chamber 250.

   In the variant shown in FIG. 7, there is only one combustion chamber 300 and this is heated by burners such as 332 and 334, the gas stream from this chamber being divided by a semi-circular partition 302. The whole The gas first passes over the bundle of the shield tubes 304 and is then divided between the gas path 306 of the superheater and the gas path 308 of the vaporizing tubes. The gas flow through the path 308 is regulated by a register 310 mounted in the duct 312. The latter is disposed near the radial wall 314 which, in combination with the wall 302 and the radial wall 316, forms the last part. of the gas path 308.

   The partition 314 is reinforced at an intermediate point by the stiffener 323 because of the large difference in pressures exerted on opposite sides of the partition. The vaporizing tubes located within the gas path 308 are arranged in a semicircular bundle extending from the screen 304 all around the downcomer 320 to a point 322 near the flue 312.

   A superheater 324 constructed in a manner similar to that shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 and comprising a bundle of vertical tubes is established inside the gas path 306. Beyond the superheater, vaporizing tubes are arranged in radial rows and established in the form of a tube bundle 327 s' extending from a point near the display tubes 326 to a point near the flue 328. The gas flow through the gas path 306 of the superheater and the total temperature of the steam are regulated by the operation of the register 330 mounted across the flue.

  328.

   The variant shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings comprises a single combustion chamber 350 capable of being heated by burners 352 and 354, the combustion gases of which are divided so as to travel in semi-circular paths to arrive at the flues 356 and 358 arranged on the side opposite the burners in the group. The flues are separated by a dividing wall 360 formed of vaporizing tubes provided with plugs projecting into the spaces between tubes which are filled with re = material. 'fractals.

   Combustion gases that flow from combustion chamber 350 clockwise around downpipe 362 first pass over large diameter screen tube bundle 364.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

  They are then divided by a partition 366 so that part of the gas passes over the tubes of the superheater 368 on one side of the wall. The remainder of the gases, on the other side of the wall 366, passes over a bundle of vaporizing tubes 370 arranged in radial rows between the descending column 362 and the wall 366. Beyond the wall the two partial streams of gas are combine to pass over the bundle of vaporizing tubes 372 before going into the flue 356. The gas flow over the superheater 368 and therefore the final temperature of the steam are regulated by the register 374 arranged in the flue 356, causing a change in the gas flow counterclockwise around the downcomer 362 from the combustion chamber 350 to the flue 358.

   This latter gas stream is regulated by register 376.

   The gases from the combustion chamber 350 flowing in the reverse direction of clockwise movement around the downcomer 362 first pass over and between the tubes of the large screen tube bundle. diameter 380. Beyond this screen, the gases meet the tubes of a bundle of vaporizing tubes 382 arranged in radial rows and approximately filling the annular space between the screen 380 and the radial partition 360. This is provided with of radial reinforcing pieces 361 and 363.

   The variant shown in FIG. 9 of the drawings has a single combustion chamber 400 located on one side of the radial partition 402. Immediately on the other side thereof is a single flue 404 arranged such that the gases must flow in the direction clockwise movement almost all the way around the descendant.

   The combustion chamber 400 is heated by burners such as 406 and 408, preferably arranged at an intermediate height opposite the descending column 410, as in the other variants.

   The gases from the combustion chamber first encounter the large diameter tubes of the shield tube bundle 412 arranged in radial rows as clearly shown in the drawings. Beyond the bundle of screen tubes, the gases are divided by a partition 414 located between a gas path 416 for the superheater and a vapor-generating gas path in which a bundle of vaporizing tubes is established 418 Outside the bundle of vaporizing tubes 418, in the gas path corresponding to the superheating, is a superheater 420, similar to the superheater of Figs, 1 to 5.

   At the outlet of the gas path of the superheater 416 the gases circulate on and between the large diameter screen tubes 422 and then on the main bundle of vaporizing tubes 424 arranged in radial rows and extending from the screen 422 at flue 404, as clearly shown in the drawings. The flow of gas through the flue 404 is controlled by the register 426.

   In the group shown in Figs. 1 to 5 and in each of the variants, the wall 16 is provided with an opening 68 giving access to the chamber of the superheater, this opening being arranged directly above the superheater and being normally closed by a suitable cover which forms at its meeting with the envelope 180 a tight seal resistant to the existing pressure, by welding or in some other suitable manner. When the cover is removed, access can be made to the annular space between the casing and the central pressure vessel.

   In this way, the number of pipes which have to be cut, both during the initial construction and during the maintenance of the installation, is reduced to a minimum, since a large proportion of the many of the bent tubes, both on the superheater surface and on the steam generator surface, can be introduced through the opening.
