FOUR DE DISTILLATION OU AUTRES APPLICATIONSo
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DISTILLATION OVEN OR OTHER APPLICATIONS o
Distillation furnaces or other applications are already known comprising a conveyor placed in a fixed distillation chamber, said conveyor being animated by vibratory movements, the conveyor race-, before the coal to be distilled, so that the coal grains are always moving relative to each other.,
The object of the present invention is various improvements to the above ovens in which the product to be distilled is animated by vibratory movements.
For this purpose, it relates to a distillation furnace or other applica- tions in which the product to be distilled is driven by a vibratory movement. Furnace characterized in that the product to be treated falls by gravity inside the oven. distillation chamber on stepped trays animated by a vertical vibratory movement, so that said product in powder or in small grains is constantly subjected to a vibration which has the effect of keeping the grains in suspension in the atmosphere the oven and continually renew contact with the hot walls, which considerably accelerates the distillation rate,
this can thus be carried out in a few minutes instead of several hours as in known ovens.
According to one embodiment, the successive vibrating plates are inclined in the opposite direction relative to the horizontal, so that the product to be distilled first falls on a first plate which, due to its inclination, directs said product towards the periphery. , then on a second plate which, due to its inclination in the opposite direction to the previous plate, brings the product inwards and so on, so that said product is driven in a continuous alternating centrifugal movement and centri- ple.
The invention also relates to a distillation furnace or other appli-. cations comprising a distillation chamber inside which is provided a device for the continuous flow of the product to be distilled such as carbon; oven characterized because the whole of the distillation chamber of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
flow device which is integral with it, is animated by a vibrating movement -Gel that the product to be distilled progresses by successive leaps while being in a way suspended in the hot atmosphere of the furnace and renewing thus continuously in contact with the hot walls which considerably accelerates the distillation speed,
this arrangement ultimately making it possible to achieve a simpler construction while allowing both the vibratory movements of the device for the flow of the product to be treated.
According to one embodiment:
The device for the flow of the product to be distilled consists of a conveyor integral with the distillation enclosure, receiving the product to be treated at its upper part, said product flowing by gravity and by the action of vibrations towards the orifice. outlet to the lower part of the distillation chamber.
According to another embodiment:
The device for the flow of the product to be distilled consists of stepped trays integral with the vibrational movement of the distillation chamber so that the product to be distilled in powder or in small grains descends from the tray to the outlet orifice. provided in the lower part of the distillation chamber.
The invention also extends to the characteristics described below and to their various possible combinations.
An oven according to the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying figures in which:
Figures 1a, they represent a furnace cut by its axis.
FIG. 2 shows, in elevation, the upper part of the oven.
FIG. 3 shows, in plan, the detail of a tray of the oven of FIG. 1.
Figure 4 shows, in cross section, the details of the table of Figure 3.
Figures 5, 6 and 7 show schematically in sectional elevation various embodiments of the furnace in which the movement of the product to be distilled is provided by a conveyor.
FIG. 8 schematically shows in sectional elevation another embodiment of the furnace in which the product to be distilled descends by gravity on stepped trays.
The oven shown in Figures la, 1b, comprises a masonry enclosure 32 having, for example, the shape of a tower. At the lower part 20 of this enclosure is the burner providing heating. Above the burner is a cylinder 19 forming the distillation enclosure and receiving at its upper part the product such as charcoal to be distilled. At the center of this cylinder 19 can vibrate vertically a central tube 1 vertical.
The vertical central tube 1, is suspended by a bracket 2 by means of a spring 3, from a fixed frame 4.
In this caliper is placed a device 5 for controlling the central reciprocating movements of the tube 1. The device comprises two rotating masses 301 302 controlled at a speed which may be from 1000 to 3000 revolutions for example, by a motor 6. .
This results in a vertical vibration for the tube 1, the amplitude of which can vary from 0 m / m 5 to 3 n / m for example.
The tube 1 supports a certain number of hollow trays 7 made up of two stamped sheets 8 and 9, welded together to the central tube 1.
The central tube 1 also supports trays 10, comprising openings 11, these trays 10 are inclined towards the center. For their
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to give more rigidity, they can be connected to the assembly 8, 9 by welded lugs 12, opposite the stamped sheets 8, 9 forming the plates 7.
The tube 1 has apertures 12. Towards the middle of the sheets 8, 9 is placed a diaphragm 13 made of sheet metal which, as indicated below, serves to guide the circulation of the heating gases.
The coal brought by any means into the hopper 14 is, metered by a distributor 15, to be brought inside the furnace 19, in a sort of small hopper 16 from which it first flows onto the plate 8 to then fall on plate 10 which brings it back towards the center, continuing a kind of continuous movement, alternately centrifugal and centri- ple, until it falls into a small hopper 17, integral with the central tube 1 from which it flows into a damper 18.
The heating of the enclosure 19 is effected by two streams of gas coming from the burner located in the chamber 20. A first stream of hot gas circulates in the interior of the cylinder 19 between the enclosure 32 and the pa- ' outer king of said cylinder 19.
A second stream of hot gas is directed 9 inside the central tube 1 and into each of the sheets 8, 9 forming the plate 7 to then flow into a pipe 21 which simultaneously collects the gases having circulated through it. the outside of the oven.
From the pipe 21, the gases can flow to the atmosphere, but it is preferable to bring them back into the chamber 20, so as to create a continuous heating circuit whose circulation is ensured by a fan and whose temperature is regulated by an appropriate device.
The cylinder 19 is formed by a plate 22 and the tube 1 enters it by means of a flexible device 23. At the lower part, the cylinder 19 is closed by an inclined bottom 31 and the seal is ensured by another flexible device 24.
The distillation gases are evacuated either by a single pipe 25, or by two pipes 25 and 26 placed at different heights, the pipe 25 serving to collect the gases which are released first and the pipe 26, those which are released in last place, so that it is possible to separate the distillation gases into two parts.
When executed in carbon steel the temperature of the heating gases of a furnace of this type is limited to around 650 and it can only be used for relatively low temperature distillations, but. it is possible to envisage making it in special steel, or replacing the jacket 19 with a refractory envelope heated to high temperature, so as to produce products which are further distilled.
The distillation furnace described has many advantages and in particular the following
1) The coal or orps to be distilled, in powder or in small grains, is constantly subjected to a vibration of the order of 1500 to 3000 vibrations per minute which has the effect of maintaining the grains, in a way suspended in the atmosphere of the furnace and continually renewing their contact with the hot walls, so that the distillation, instead of lasting several hours, is effected in a few minutes.
2) Due to this continual vibrating movement, grains of coal or even a slightly fusible body do not have time to agglomerate with one another and, on the contrary, flow continuously.
3) The inclination of the plates is such that with a vibration,

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
4) The product to be distilled loses its volatiles and possibly the humidity or other gases which it contains as it descends into the oven, it is therefore possible to collect the volatiles or these gases separately. at different levels as in a sort of column with trays.
Of course, many modifications can be made to the furnace described above without going beyond the scope of the invention.
In particular, the mobile tube can be kept in vibration, either by a mechanical device, or by an electromagnet or any other device.
The oven can be heated externally by any device.
The furnace is applicable to the distillation of all fuels, but in particular non-fusible or poorly fusible coal to obtain either half-kiln when the temperature is relatively low, or even coke when the temperature is high enough.
It can also be used in the distillation of lines.
The furnace shown in section in Figure 5 is a low temperature distillation furnace for coal or lignite.
The coal or lignite to be treated, the dimensions of which are for example between 0 and 3 millimeters, brought by a conveyor 41, rolls up through a chute 42 provided with a distributor 43 in the chamber 60 of the furnace.
The oven consists of a box or distillation chamber 44 which serves as the original conveyor 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 formed of parts folded in zig-zag. The whole of the box 44 and of the conveyor 45 to 50 is suspended from a fixed beam 51, by means of an elastic device 52, so that it can vibrate vertically.
These vibrations are produced by a vibration device 53 integral with the box 44. This vibration device may for example include two unbalances rotating in opposite directions or an electrical device.
Under the influence of this vibrating device, the whole of the box 44 and the conveyor 45 to 50 undergo a very rapid vertical movement having for example a vertical amplitude of 1 to 2 millimeters and occurring at a rate from 1500 to 3000 per minute.
The charcoal heats up and distils very quickly. The distilled product such as semi-coke flows through a damper 54 where it is stopped by a distributor 55, to fall on a conveyor 56. The distillation gases are collected in a barrel 57. The chutes and the barrel are connected to the box by elastic bellows 61, 62, 63. The conveyor 45 to 50 and the box 44 are heated externally by a circulation of gas coming from the burner 58. A part of the burnt gases can be brought into the combustion chamber to create a continuous heating circuit.
The heat is transferred: - either by contact of the product to be distilled with the heated sheets of the conveyor.
- or by creating a hot atmosphere inside the conveyor, the transmission of calories through the walls being facilitated in all cases by vibrations.
- or by the circulation of the distillation gases which pass through the conveyor in the opposite direction to the product to be distilled.
Numerous modifications can also be made to the ovens described above without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In particular, it is possible to modify the shape of the conveyor contained in the vibrating box 44.
FIG. 6 represents a distillation furnace in which the conveyor 45 is constituted by a helical passage. This helical corridor is placed in the distillation box 44 closed at its upper part. The helix 45 forming the helical conveyor is included between the outer sheet metal of the box 44 and another cylinder 65 serving as a kind of core. The product to be distilled is introduced into the furnace, at the upper part of the conveyor 45 to exit through the chute 50 extending the lower part of the conveyor 45. The vibrating movement of the box 44 is ensured by a vibrating device 53 such as this. that unbalance giving a vertical vibration movement to a table 68 supporting the box 44.
FIG. 7 represents in section a variant of the furnace of FIG. 6, this figure showing the path of the heating gases. These gases circulate in the hollow propeller, penetrating through the lower orifice 56 to leave it through the upper orifice 57. The product to be treated, on the contrary, circulates on the propeller by entering through the orifice 67 located at the part. upper part of the box 44, to exit through the orifice 50 placed in the lower part of the box 44.
This furnace is supported in the same way as the furnace of FIG. 6 by a table 68 carried on rubber pucks 69 and provided with a vibrating device 53.
Instead of ensuring the movement of the product to be distilled in the distillation enclosure by a conveyor, it is possible to use other devices such as a plate device such as that described in FIG. 8.
The oven of FIG. 8 comprises a distillation enclosure 44 receiving at its upper part the product to be treated coming from a neck 42 provided with a distributor 43.
At the center of the distillation box 44 and integral with this box is a Vertical central tube 70. This tube 70 supports a number of hollow trays 771, 772, 773, made up of two stamped sheets 78 and 79 welded together at the bottom. central tube 70. Box 44 supports trays 80 having openings 81. These trays are inclined towards the center. The central tube 70 comprises slots 82. The box 44 is mounted on a table 68 driven by a vibrating movement by a vibrating device 53 formed for example of two unbalances.
The product to be distilled such as charcoal is brought to the upper part of the furnace through which it first flows over the upper plate 78 to then fall on the plate 80 which brings it back to the center constituting a kind of continuous movement. alternately centrifugal and centripetal until it falls into the orifice 50 placed at the lower part of the box 44.
The heating of the distillation chamber is effected by a current of gas arriving at the lower part of the central tube 80 and in each of the sheets 78 and 79 forming each plate 77, to then flow into a pipe. 91. The distillation gases are discharged through a pipe 92 placed at the top of the box 44.
The trays advantageously have a circular shape.
