<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

METHOD AND MACHINE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF PAPER BAGS The present invention relates to a method and a machine for the manufacture of paper bags.
It is known that paper bags are manufactured mechanically in such a way that, with the aid of cut pieces of paper, tubes provided with a longitudinal edge to be glued are first formed. These tubular shaped bags are folded on both sides along their entire length. The tubular bags are then placed on top of each other and must remain in the store, until the glue of their longitudinal edges has dried and the bonded edges can no longer give way.
Then, the ends of these tubular bags are provided with bottoms on a special folding machine. Either a bottom is only formed at one end of the bag and the tube is thus transformed into an open bag, or else a bottom is formed at both ends and a valve bag is thus obtained. The known method of forming bag bottoms begins with the spreading of the flattened ends of the tubes and then proceeds to fold and glue these spread ends to form the bag bottoms. The opening or spreading of the ends of the tubes is obtained by special devices, for example suckers, are applied to both ends of the bag tubes and whose operation allows the ends of the tubes to be opened, for introduce folding t8les.
According to the invention, the piece of paper serving to form a paper bag is placed along the fold lines of the bag in the direction of the fold., Then it is only given a tubular shape in the folds. limits of the bag walls to be formed and finally, the bag bottom elements, spreading automatically during this process., are assembled., to form the bag bottoms.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In this way it is achieved that the paper bags can be produced in a substantially simpler and faster manner than heretofore, since it is no longer necessary to first form a bag tube of the known type, the edges of which must dry, before the bottoms can be folded back, then it is no longer necessary to open the ends of the tubes in order to constitute the bottoms, so that the complicated devices used hitherto for this purpose , for example suckers, are superfluous.
Further, according to the new method the ends of the bag bottoms are spread out more evenly than according to the known methods, therefore the finished bag bottoms are also more regular than heretofore and finally, it is avoided that the corner folds of the bag bottoms are provided with broken lines during the formation of the tube, which according to the known process originate in the middle and extend parallel to the fold lines of the side tabs of the bottom, thus weakening the walls of the bag and in particular the ends thereof.
According to the invention, the process is carried out by a machine, comprising one or more pairs of grooving rolls, followed by a device for forming the bag tube and finally by a device for the automatic assembly of the bags. elements of established bag bottoms.
Such a machine makes it possible to make paper bags in a continuous and uninterrupted cycle, using one or more layers of paper.
According to the invention, the working direction of the device for assembling the extended ends of the bag bottoms is opposite with respect to the working direction of the devices preceding this part of the machine, which makes it possible to obtain a machine with noticeably reduced size.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 1 represents the paper blank necessary for the manufacture of a paper bag, this piece being drawn along the fold lines.
FIG. 2 is a view of the end of the same paper blank, which has a broken shape (not existing in fig 1), in order to show the direction of the folding.
FIG. 3 is a section along A - B of FIG. 1, also showing the direction of folding.
FIG. 4 is an embodiment of the plots.
Figure 5 shows the paper blank, which has a tubular shape within the boundaries of the walls of the bag to be formed, with the elements spread out from the bag bottom.
Figure 6 shows the paper bag with the bottom still open.
Figure 7 is a section along A-B of fig 8 and
FIG. 8 is a plan view of the device for carrying out the method according to the invention.
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the paper blank 1 serving to form a paper bag is provided on each side with a longitudinal fold line 2 and a longitudinal fold line 3. Between
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the two fold lines 2 extend the transverse fold lines 4 At points 5 the transverse lines 4 touch the longitudinal lines 2 Points 5 diverge the fold lines 6 from the bottom. All of these fold lines are traced in the direction of the fold of east, that is to say the tracings are provided in such a way that they promote the folding of each of the elements constituting the bag in the direction of the fold, as well as it is shown schematically in Figures 2 and 3.
If we exert pressure on the paper blank traced in the direction of the small straight arrows 7 (figo 4), the direction of the folding is in the direction of the arrows 8 in the form of an arc, so that the folding is favored in the direction of these arrows. When folding the bag each of the elements to be folded can be easily brought into position and indicated by the arrows.
For this purpose, the shape of the traces may be different, in this case it may be as shown in fig. 4. This shape is chosen without each case depending on the strength of the paper chosen for the making of the bag and again. depending on the nature of the raw material used to make this bag. In a known manner, the paper blank 1 used for making the paper bag can consist of several layers, the edges of which can be offset from one another.
Then, the grooved paper blank 1 receives a tubular shape only within the limits of the walls to be formed., As is apparent from FIG. 5. The elements 9 and 10 of the paper blank 1 are only entered in the boundaries between the longitudinal fold lines 2 and folded along the transverse fold lines 4 and then glued together in known manner.
When the elements 9 and 10 are folded, the elements 11 of the bag bottom are automatically spread out, so that it is not necessary to open these elements during a special working phase, in order to the formation of the bottom. '
It is easy to assemble the spread elements 11 to form the bag bottom, because the folding of the bottom tabs 13 and 14 along the fold lines 3 presents no difficulty even if the folds from the corners 15 to the lines 16 are not not traced.
However, in the case where the paper blank 1 is very difficult to fold, in this case if it consists of several superimposed layers of paper, it is preferable to also trace the paper blank 1 along the fold lines 16 , so that the corner folds 15 do not present any appreciable resistance when folding the side tabs 13 and 14. If the paper can be folded easily the short tabs 17 of the fold lines 3 need not be drawn.
The machine for carrying out the process, represented by FIGS. 7 and 8, consists essentially of pairs of cylinders for tracing the paper blank, followed by a device for carrying out the tubular form and a device for the assembly of the bag bottom elements spread automatically.
The operation of the machine is as follows from a paper roll .. not shown in the drawing a paper blank 1 is cut in known manner which is fed to a pair of cylinders 18o Between these the paper blank 1 is provided with traces along the longitudinal fold lines 2 and 3 Possibly the short parts 17 of the fold line
3 are not plotted. In this case, the marking cylinders have the correct shape. Then the paper blank 1 drawn longitudinally is fed between a pair of cylinders 19. Here the paper blank 1 is drawn.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
along the transverse fold lines 4 and 6 and, optionally, along the fold lines 160
The paper blank drawn in this way is then fed to the device for the execution of the tubular form.
The conveyor belts 20 and 21 grip the paper blank 1, to bring it against a grid 22, the front end 23 of which is inclined relative to the cylinder 24 The grid 22 is provided with a transverse folding rail. 25, under which the front end 26 of the paper blank 1 is engaged when the latter is guided on the grid 22 in an upwardly inclined position. Then, the grid 22 is tilted, in the direction of the arrow 27, around its journal 28..It now occupies the position 29, shown in dotted lines. The tilting of the grid 28 is effected by a rod articulated to spacers 30 of the pivoting lever 31 and controlled from a shaft of the machine, for example by means of an eccentric. The rod with its control device is not shown in the drawing.
If the front end 23 of the grid 22 is tilted down, the transverse folding rail 25 folds the paper blank 1 along the fold line 4, so that it assumes the position 32 shown in dotted lines on the left. dessino In this state, from position 32 the folded end 26 of the paper blank 1 is led to a pair of cylinders formed by the cylinders 24 and 33 These cylinders are provided with recesses 34, in which the grid bars 35 of the grid 22 can move, when the grid 22 is rotated.
The cylinders 24 and 33 only grip the paper blank 1 within the limits of the tubular shape to be formed, that is to say within the limits situated between the longitudinal fold lines 2 The transverse folding rail 25 n ' is not longer than the transverse fold line 4
The folded end 26 of the paper blank 1 is brought by the cylinders 24 and 33 against a stopper 36, where it is held in its folded position by paperweights 37 in its folded position. During the folding, the corresponding elements 11 of the bag bottom are spread automatically.
Then, an oscillating knife 38 folds the other end of the paper blank 1 along the second fold line 4 This oscillating or folding knife 38 is provided with levers 39, controlled by means of a device, actuated by part of a machine shaft, in the direction of arrow 40, if the bending along the second bending line 4 is to take place at this location. The control device for the folding knife 38, which attau, by means of a rod, the spacer 41 of the levers 39, is not shown in the drawing.
After this folding phase, the paper blank 1 has a tubular shape only within the limits of the walls of the bag to be formed and has bag bottom elements 11 spread automatically, that is to say, a shape such that it is represented by the fig 50
Finally, the paper blank 1 is fed in this form between the cylinders 33 and 420 The cylinder 42 has a conveyor belt 43.
Above this tape is installed another conveyor tape 44. These conveyor tape 43 and 44 bring the paper blank 1 with folds prepared to other folding rails, not shown in the drawing, where the bottom tabs 13 and 14 are folded over and where the spread tubular ends 11 are assembled, to form the bag bottom 45. In order. to make such a bag bottom visible between the conveyor tapes 43 and 44 of FIG. 8, a plate identical to the plate 46 shown in FIG. 7 between the pairs of cylinders 18 and 19 is not shown in the drawing.
