<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

IMPROVEMENTS TO METAL COVERS. IN PARTICULAR TO
ROAD COVERS.
The present invention relates to lids with a metallic surface intended to be loaded and in particular to vehicle lids.
Although for heavy loads there is a tendency to use cast iron bowl lids filled with concrete or a similar mass, it is however shown in practice that a large need for surface lids metallic continues to exist especially for lower loads.
Now, it is known that cast iron has, as a construction material, the high quality of being particularly resistant to compression. On the other hand, its properties are rather mediocre from the point of view. tension and in the current cover construction the cast iron is subjected to tension over the entire interior surface.
The object of the invention is to overcome this drawback and consists essentially in that the cover is constructed in such a way that the load is supported on both sides mainly in the form of compression.
In the practical embodiment of the invention, the lower walls receive a heel or ribs which start from or near the center or a central axis and extend outwards,
the section of these ribs being the largest near the framed
These ribs can touch the frame or end close to it with little play. The loaded cover must touch with its ribs the inner part of the frame forming the seat.
In the accompanying drawings (Figures 1 and 2) there is shown by 1 flat or almost flat metal covers which according to the invention,
we add ribs 2 which start from the central part of the cover and for example from a central axis 3 and go towards the periphery. The section of these ribs which can be perforated is increasing

from the center to the periphery and the part of larger section touches or is near with little play of the inner part of the seat 4 of the frame.
In this way, the lower surface of the frame is no longer subjected to tension since the ribs touch the frame as the cover bends slightly under a load and transmits the loads in the form of compression to the frame and particularly to the frame. the inner part of the seat.
All the material used in the construction is therefore, so to speak, subjected to compression by the load of the cover.
Cast iron lids produced according to the invention can therefore be loaded much more heavily or allow for an equal load a considerable saving in material,
The principle of this construction can of course be applied to round lids as well as to rectangular lids or any other shape.
CLAIMS. l.- Cover with metallic surface, particularly in cast iron, characterized in that it is constructed so that the load is supported on both sides mainly in the form of compression.
