 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  CLOG FOR HAT SUPPORT.

   The invention relates to shoes for retaining caps, of the type employed in supporting galleries with frames, for the assembly of the upright with the cap. These hat shoes, in which the hat is inserted, are fixed to the uprights (props) and they give, in known construction devices, an assembly which prevents any relative movement between the two assembled parts.

   However, this method of assembling the upright and the cap presents considerable drawbacks which are manifested in particular when iron retaining frames are used, the retaining elements of which are not in themselves flexible, because one obtains thus a practically absolutely rigid support, in which the supporting elements, ie the post and the cap, as well as the cap shoe, are exposed, to a large extent, to the risk of breakage.

   The object of the invention is a bonnet shoe which gives the possibility of leaving the assembly between the upright and the cap, and consequently all the support, a certain flexibility which can be determined in advance. . In this way, one does not only prevent premature destruction of the hat shoes, as well as the uprights and the hats themselves, but also, and. this is the main, advantageous behavior of the whole frame or support structure with respect to compressive forces.

   Preferably, the flexibility characteristic is rationally fixed in such a way that this flexibility decreases when the received compression increases, that is to say in such a way that the resistance of the assembly between upright and hat increases with the increased compression.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The use of such a flexible assembly of the elements, at one of the corners or even at the two corners of the frame or support structure, can be advantageously combined with the use of a cap having flexibility in itself, this flexibility being regulated and proportioned in such a way that it acts only at the instant when the flexibility of the corner joint, provided by the bonnet shoe, has already acted itself to a determined extent at the advanced.

   The hoof of.: Skin according to the invention is, for this purpose, formed of two parts designed in such a way that one carrying and holding the hat, can move, overcoming an adjustable friction, in a guide formed by the 'other part, fixed to the upright preferably by means of a claw which surrounds the profile or parts of the profile.

   According to a particular characteristic of the invention, the part which can move on the head of the upright, in the adjustable guides clamped against its sides, is constituted by a plate the width of which increases progressively in the direction of the interior of the upright. frame * This plate opposes its sliding in the guides a resistance which increases progressively, according to its widening, as the compression resumes. The reaction mode is therefore analogous to that provided for in flexible metal props.

   It has been found to be particularly advantageous to provide a longitudinal slit in the widening portion of the plate. Two branches are thus obtained which move away from each other by forming a certain angle, the value of which bn chooses according to the flexibility characteristic which it is desired to obtain. As a general rule, the value of this angle is between 5 and 15.

   If, in another embodiment of the invention, the two parts which form the bonnet shoe are assembled by an articulation, this assembly being obtained, for example, from the fact that the claw embracing the section which constitutes the post is fixed, in a manner permitting its movement, to the movable console on the sliding plate or shoe, the use of the new cap shoe becomes independent of an angle determined by the post and the cap.

   In addition, to ensure good reach of the bonnet shoe in all positions, provide the mobile console on the shoe, on the side facing the upright, with a rounded guide surface and fix the bracket to the console. claw embracing the section which constitutes the upright, or parts of this section, using spacer washers or furring strips, so that this claw can be adapted to different sections.

   As noted above, the advantageous action of this flexible assembly between cap and upright is further completed, according to the invention, in particular when significant compression conditions such as those are present. that one meets in galleries being in powerful layers while erecting while employing, a hat which is itself constituted by two parts being able to move telescopically one in the other or guided one against the other and tight together, and as was the case for the flexible metallic polygonal frame.

   We are therefore able, by the combination of these means, to completely adapt the flexibility of the support assembly to the ground conditions occurring in each particular case, and this in such a way that the initial pressure is balanced. by the relative movements of the bonnet and the upright with respect to each other, until the resistance which the shoe of the bonnet shoe opposes at a certain moment has become large enough to be greater than the tightening of the two parts of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 skin and thus carries the flexibility of the hat in its seat.

   Hat shoes according to the invention can be used, both for normal frames and for frames which have only a metal upright combined with a metal cap, as is the case, for example, when the dip is close to the vertical, the second upright then being a wooden upright.

   There is shown in the drawings, by way of examples, various possibilities of application of the support using the new hat shoe and different possibilities of making the hat shoe.

   FIG. 1 represents a supporting frame or structure consisting of a metal upright, a metallic cap, flexible in itself, and a wooden upright.

   Figure 2 shows an analcgue frame, but with a rigid cap.

   Figure 3 shows a normal gallery frame, metal, with two metal uprights and with two corresponding hat shoes.

   Figure 4 is an elevational view of the hat shoe.

   Figure 5 is a corresponding plan view.

   Figure 6 is a bottom plan view of the bonnet shoe
Figure 7 is a section taken along the line A-B of Figure 4.

   FIG. 8 represents a frame or support structure, similar to that of FIG. 1, but in which the two parts of the hood shoe are assembled together by a hinge.

   Figure 9 shows the same frame or support frame as Figure 8, but this frame includes a rigid cap.

   FIG. 10 shows, in the case of a normal metal support frame comprising two uprights, the use of a bonnet shoe according to the invention, consisting of two parts assembled together by an arch. ticulation.

   Figures 11, 12 and 13 are respectively a side elevational view; a top plan view and a bottom plan view of a bonnet shoe consisting of two parts joined together by a hinge.

   Figure 14 corresponds to figure 13, with this difference, however, that in the case of figure 14, the claw embracing the profile which constitutes the upright, can be adapted to different profiles of props by means of washers d 'spacers or furs mounted on the assembly bolts.

   According to Figures 1 to 7, the new bonnet shoe consists of a part b in the form of a console, which is fixed to the iron post a of the frame or support frame, and by a slider c in the form of a plate, which is assembled with the console-shaped part, so that it can produce a relative sliding between the console and the plate.

   The bracket b is fixed to the upright by a pair of claws ± which embrace the head of the section constituting the upright or stanchion a. Each of these claws can constitute one and the same part a-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 With the clamping guides e for the pad c. The claws are then tightened, at the same time as the guides e, by means of bolts 1 :. The pad c, in the form of a plate, which is for example made of sheet steel of sufficient thickness, is curved at its front end in the form of a hook g. This hook serves as a stop for the end of the bonnet h. Towards its posterior part, the runner gradually widens, as shown in figures 5 and 6.

  In the preferred embodiment which is shown, the rear part of the shoe has a slit 1, the edges of which widen out at an angle of about 5 to 15 between them.

   This shape given to the pad has been found to be particularly advantageous in obtaining the desired frictional resistance characteristic which results from the sliding of the pad c in the clamping guides.

   In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the cap h is formed by the two sections of profile h 'and h ", which are guided 1' one inside the other and which are assembled together by a junction k of the kind which is commonly used for polygonal iron support frames.

   As can be seen in Figures 1 to 3, it is advisable to insert at the end of the cap, between the cap and the wall a wooden wedge] ..

   The embodiment of the invention according to Figures 8 to 14 differs from that which has just been described by the fact that the two-piece claw e, which embraces the section constituting the prop, is fixed to the bracket b so as to be able to move or to be able to pivot around a joint n. The opening of this claw can be adjusted by means of shims .0 and thus be adapted to different profiles of props. The parts 1 have anterior guide surfaces m, which are rounded and which rest against the prop.

   This latter embodiment makes the hat shoe independent, to a large extent, from the profile or shape of the support frame; in fact, in this new form, the bonnet shoe can be used for various angular positions of the prop or props relative to the bonnet.

   Further, this embodiment takes into account that when employing a soft cap by itself, the angle formed by the end of the cap and the strut varies to some extent. Due to the articulated connection of the two parts of the hat shoe to each other, the hat shoe can adapt to such angular variations during the entire time it is part of the support.

   In a quite general manner, the embodiments of the invention which have just been described in detail and which are represented in the figures, have been given only by way of example, in particular. as regards the nature of the fixing of the bonnet shoe to the strut and the position of the two bolts which assemble the parts of the claw.
