<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS TO ELECTRICAL SWITCHES.
The invention relates to switching installations of the withdrawal type comprising a circuit breaker the terminals of which are arranged so as to be removed with the circuit breaker of associated fixed terminals carried by the fixed part of the switch.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved form of such a switch with which earthing of a line terminal or the like is facilitated.
In accordance with one aspect of the invention, an additional fixed earth terminal connected to the earth is provided for the earthing of one of the fixed terminals or of a terminal connected thereto, and the installation is provided for. so that after retirement the circuit-breaker can be moved in a direction transverse to that of withdrawal and then brought into an earthed position in which its terminals are associated respectively with the terminal to be earthed and with the earth terminal.
For example, in the case of a switch of the vertical drop type, it is always planned to transport horizontally., By means of wheels on rails for example., The circuit-breaker trolley after lowering the circuit-breaker and separation of the circuit-breaker terminals. fixed terminals. In the case of a horizontal retraction installation, an equivalent device can be provided to move the circuit breaker either sideways in the horizontal direction, or vertically up and down.
'
In one form of the invention, the switch comprises a voltage transformer terminal connected to a line terminal, and an earth terminal so arranged that the circuit breaker can be brought into a grounded position where its terminals are associated respectively with the terminal of the potential transformer and with the earth terminal, so as to earth the line.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In a variant of the invention, the arrangement of an earth terminal is such that the circuit breaker terminal, which normally is in contact with the terminal to be earthed, is in the earthing position, in contact with the earth terminal, while the other terminal of the circuit breaker is in the earthed position, in contact with the terminal to be earthed. For example to ground a bus bar, the end of the bus bar can be disposed between a ground terminal and a terminal to which it is normally connected. Likewise, to earth two bus bars in a coupler or disconnector panel, two bus bar terminals normally connected by the circuit breaker can be placed between two earth terminals.
Likewise, to earth one or the other of the double bus bars of a line panel comprising a line end terminal between two bus bar end terminals, these three can be arranged. terminals between two earth terminals. It is possible to provide a terminal of the voltage transformer connected to the end of the line beyond one of the earth terminals for the earthing of the line.
The use of a terminal of the voltage transformer for earthing, instead of normally connecting the end of the line to the circuit breaker has the advantage., When the protection device includes a current transformer placed between these terminals, to limit any fault, arising from the earthing of the voltage transformer terminal, to the line section defined by the current transformer, instead of affecting the busbar section, the together being disturbed as little as possible when the fault disappears.
However, according to another aspect of the invention, the electrical switch comprises a line end terminal, a current transformer between the line and the line end terminal, a transformer terminal. voltage inserted between line and current transformer, and a line earthing device connecting the voltage transformer terminal to an earth terminal so that any fault arising from such earthing or in the line protection zone determined by the current transformer.
The invention can be put into practice in various ways, and a particular embodiment will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a schematic side view of a phase of a switch.
In this embodiment, the invention is applied to a shielded switch of the vertical trigger type. Each circuit breaker A is mounted on a trolley B and is provided with devices for raising or closing and lowering or tripping. These well-known devices are not shown in the drawing.
The trolley has wheels B 'rolling on rails C and making it possible, once the circuit breaker has been lowered, to move it horizontally forward (to the right in the drawing) and back (to the left in the drawing).
For each phase, the circuit breaker has two terminals A1 and A2 facing upwards and the fixed part of the switch comprises a series of socket-shaped terminals associated with the circuit breaker terminals and in contact with them when the circuit breaker is raised in its position. normal engagement.
In the embodiment considered of the invention, it is applied to a connection panel from a line to one or the other of two bus bars, the terminal-socket D of the line being disposed between the terminal-sockets E and F of the two bus bars, the three terminals being placed equidistantly on a line directed from front to rear. The circuit breaker can thus be used to connect the line to one or other of the bus bars by pulling the circuit breaker down ¯, bringing it forward or backward over a corresponding distance. the distance between two terminals, and pushing it upwards in contact with the terminal-sockets.
Behind the line and bus terminals is an additional similar terminal G for a voltage transformer H. This
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
terminal is, like the line end terminal, connected to the line, but the current transformers J for the protection of the line and busbar areas are provided on the line between the connection points of the terminal d end of line and voltage transformer terminal.
In accordance with the present invention, a ground terminal K is provided between the rear busbar end terminal and the voltage transformer terminal, and another ground terminal L is provided at the front. of the front busbar end terminal, the six terminals thus defined being placed equidistantly on a line running from rear to front, the distance between two neighboring terminals being equal to the distance between the circuit breaker terminals. The circuit breaker carriage rails extend a sufficient length to allow the circuit breaker to be brought in front and pushed into contact with any pair of neighboring terminals.
Thus, in its far-forward raised position, the circuit breaker connects the front busbar to earth by coming into contact with terminals E and L.
In the next position it connects the line to the front bus bar via terminals D and E In the third position it connects the line to the rear bus bar via terminals F and D and in the next position; it connects the rear bus bar to. the earth by the good K and F. Finally, in its extreme rear position, it connects the terminal of the voltage transformer G to the earth terminal K. It should be noted that before the circuit breaker is brought into the latter position, the voltage transformer H is lowered and brought back so as not to be in the path of the circuit breaker and its carriage.
It can be seen that the invention makes it possible to easily ground the line, or if desired, a bus bar without having to resort to the complicated method normally used, and this while reducing the danger to a minimum, if there is any. . The space required for the breaking and isolating movement is reduced to a minimum and no auxiliary removable equipment is required for earthing. In general, no extra space is needed in the longitudinal direction, since there is usually space at the rear for connecting cables and at the front for maintenance or repair. removal of the circuit breaker.
The earthing of the line through the voltage transformer terminal has the important advantage that any fault resulting from such earthing is localized in the line protection zone but outside the protection zone of any , busbar, whereas if the end of the line were earthed, the fault would be located in the busbar protection zone and outside the line protection zone. Thus, if the circuit breaker were connected and closed in order to earth a line whose opposite end is inadvertently energized, the circuit breaker at that end would open in a minimum of time under the action. instant discriminatory protection.
With the known devices, this would not occur when grounding, although of course the resulting short-circuit current would cause the delayed tripping protection device located somewhere, to operate. the far end. In addition, unless made impossible by special precautions, grounding would activate any local busbar protection on the side near ground, which would trip an entire section of the switch. and cause unnecessary disturbance of the whole system.
It should be noted that the invention is not limited to the particular embodiment described by way of example. Thus, if the earthing of busbars at a coupler or disconnector panel is provided, a suitable device can be produced using, for example, one earth terminal at the front and another at the rear. of the two ends of the bus bars normally connected to each other by the circuit breaker, the four terminals being placed equidistantly on a line running from the back to the front.
The invention is not limited either to switches with vertical tripping. In the case of switches with horizontal tripping, provision should be made for moving the circuit breaker, after tripping.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
either horizontally and transversely, or vertically upwards and downwards "All the description relates to a single-phase switchgear. In general, each phase of each circuit breaker to which the invention is to be applied will be fitted with such a switchgear.
