DISPOSITIF POUR LE CHARGEMENT ET LE DECHARGEMENT DES VEHICULES DE TRANSPORT DES MATIERES EN VRAC .ET SPECIALEMENT DES.VEHICULES COLLECTEURS D'ORDURES
MENAGERES.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

DEVICE FOR THE LOADING AND UNLOADING OF VEHICLES FOR THE TRANSPORT OF BULK MATERIALS AND ESPECIALLY OF GARBAGE COLLECTING VEHICLES
MENAGERES.

The main patent No. 491,523 relates to a device for the loading and unloading of vehicles used for the transport of bulk materials and particularly of household refuse collection vehicles, comprising a revolving bucket in the form of a drum and a paddle wheel. rotating at the same time as this, with provision, in the interior of the paddle wheel, of a fixed slide on which the materials which fall from the paddle wheel slide into the bucket during loading.

While the main patent provided that the unloading should also be done using the paddle wheel; as well as the slide rotating in the direction opposite to that of advance, the present improvement provides for the means of avoiding the risk of an obstruction of the paddle wheel, which arises in this case. Even when the paddle wheel has dimensions such that it pushes perfectly, during loading, the hardest and most voluminous bodies contained in the refuse, it should be considered that compression of the refuse is necessary. operates inside the drum-shaped bucket as it rotates, a compression which can sometimes cause hard objects to come together in blocks of larger dimensions than those which may occur during loading.

This risk exists in particular in refuse collection services which do not operate with uniform bins.

To this end, and to eliminate this risk, the present improvement provides that the walls which externally limit the chamber containing the paddle wheel will be removable outwards, in particular by pivoting, during unloading. As a result, the paddle wheel is rendered inoperative during unloading in the sense that the refuse no longer has to be discharged through the narrow neck formed by this chamber.

   However, it is not

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

it is not necessary to rotate the whole of the paddle wheel for this purpose, but it suffices to remove the walls limiting the exterior of the chamber of the paddle wheel and, for this purpose, all the fixed interior elements of the paddle wheel, elements which also include the slide, as well as the outer end wall of said chamber, in a single cover which can pivot upwards around a fixed axis located above the wheel to pallets, towards the mid-width of it. This cover also usefully carries the steps for the staff responsible for the collection, so that these steps do not risk being soiled by garbage during unloading, but on the contrary, are free of soiling thanks to the oblique position they take.

Likewise, the pivoting cover advantageously carries a receiving trough for the materials coming from the leaks and which also empties thanks to the oblique position. Another particular advantage of the invention lies precisely in the fact that it is possible to dispense with the sealing sleeve which is necessary in the other embodiments and which was always subject to heavy wear, so that it constantly required repairs. This result is obtained according to the invention by providing on the outside of the seal between the paddle wheel proper and its outer boundary wall, an auxiliary paddle wheel for materials originating from leaks. These materials are thus automatically rejected in the paddle wheel, and therefore in the bucket.

Only the losses of these materials from the leaks fall into the receiving trough, which must therefore receive only a very small fraction of the hitherto common mass of materials from the leaks.

Other details of the invention emerge from the appended drawing which represents an exemplary embodiment and where the same references designate the same components as in the main patent. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side view in the unloading position.

Fig. 2 is an end view of the paddle wheel, without the cover.

As in the main patent, the rotating drum-shaped bucket 1 carries at its loading end the paddle wheel 2, the paddles of which are designated by 4. The wheel 2 is open towards the inside of the bucket and covered on the left. and on the right, in the direction of its depth, by a cylindrical re-entry 5 mounted so as to remain fixed. This re-entrant leaves at its lower part a free space 6 and at its upper part a free space 7; it also carries a slide 9 which delimits the interior of the skip 1. In the loading position, the materials slide inside the skip on this slide.

For unloading and according to the present improvement, the fixed recess 5 is combined with the slide 9 and the outer boundary wall
40 of the pallet chamber located between the pallets 4, so as to form a cover which can be tilted upwards around a fixed axis 41 located above the paddle wheel 2, towards the mid-width thereof. Ci, this tilting being effected by means of the pneumatic cylinder 32 and by the intermediary of the lever with two arms 43 and the connecting rod 44. The cover carries the steps 45 for the collection personnel as well as the receiving trough 46 for material from leaks. The steps and the trough occupy an oblique position during unloading, as shown in Fig. l, which rids them of fallen materials.

With the cover raised, the paddle wheel is devoid of its outer boundary wall, as shown in Fig.

2, so that the garbage can escape freely. The complete emptying of the spaces between the pallets is favored by oblique and low guide plates 49 arranged between the pallets 4. On the other hand,. When the cover is closed for loading, the space containing the pallets. pallets is closed at the rear, the boundary wall 40 being immobilized. Leaking material which escapes through the seal between the paddle wheel 2 and the ethereal edge 47 falls into the paddle wheel 48 covered by the flange which extends about two-thirds of the way. the periphery of the sealing edge 47.

Only the losses of these materials from leaks @

fall into the receiving trough 46.
