COUPE-CIRCUIT.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

CIRCUIT BREAKER.
The present invention relates to a circuit breaker formed by a fuse housed in a casing of insulating material such as porcelain and the poles of which, projecting on said casing, are elements, for example split plugs or sockets, capable of coupling with correlative elements arranged in a block of insulating material, preferably similar to that of the aforementioned envelope, to be connected, each, at the end of an electrical conductor by means of a conductive plate on which the correlative element is mounted, in particular by screwing, and which is, moreover, traversed by a screw which, embedded in the aforesaid bread, allows it to be fixed by engagement in a terminal to which the end of driver in question is subject,
the contact between this screw and the aforementioned plate being ensured, on the one hand, by a lining of said screw, clamped between the head of the latter and the corresponding plate and, on the other hand, by a sheath surrounding the same screw between the terminal and the plate already mentioned, this sheath having a collar which retains it in the previously defined block and which comes against the plate in question.
The placement and connection of circuit breakers of this kind, currently known, is often difficult, especially when these devices must be housed in a box embedded in a wall. These operations also require complex tools. Such circumstances are, moreover, conducive to omissions by the installer, which consist, in particular, in omitting to fully tighten the securing screws, thus giving rise to defective contacts.
The object of the invention is to remedy the drawbacks mentioned.
For this purpose, in the new circuit breaker, the terminal designated above is a mass of conductive material, fitted on a bottom plate of insulating material, having at least one groove for inserting the end of the conductor already indicated. which is held in this groove by at least one

pressure, said trap carrying, in prominence, a threaded tubing to engage the first-mentioned screw therein, this tubing having its entry milled to receive the corresponding end of the sheath named previously, which, ended in bevel, is longitudinally split up to its collar, while the aforementioned trim is elastic.
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the aforementioned terminal has a rectangular base fixed loosely to a seat arranged in the aforesaid bottom plate, by a nail driven into a tubular appendage. which extends under said base, from its center, to enter an oval hole, made in the aforementioned seat at the same time as a groove, preferably median and parallel to the aforementioned groove, in which is engaged at least one projection which also bears the underside of the base already mentioned.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the aforementioned packing is constituted by a coil spring surrounding the screw mentioned first and inserted between two cylindrical caps whose bottoms are crossed by said screw and which are symmetrical with respect to the precise spring. - tee to fit it.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of a circuit breaker, given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a view of a circuit breaker.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the fixed part of the circuit breaker shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section along the line III-III indicated in Figure 2.
FIG. 4 illustrates a variant of the securing of the terminals.
In the various figures, the same reference notations denote elements which are identical or fulfill identical functions.
The circuit breaker consists of a fuse housed in a casing 2 made of insulating material, preferably refractory such as porcelain.
The two poles 3 and 4 of the fuse protrude from the casing 2 and are elements capable of coupling. These are, for example, split pins or sockets which mate with correlative elements arranged in a strip 7 of insulating material, similar to that of the casing 2, to be connected, each at the end of a electrical conductor. As shown in Figure 1, the casing 2 carries, for example, a split pin 3 and a sleeve 4. The pin 3 fits into a corresponding sleeve 5 arranged in the bread or base 7 while the sleeve 4 sheaths a correlative split pin 6 secured in said base. The bush 5 and pin 6 are each mounted, each preferably by screwing, on a conductive plate 8, housed in the base 7 which is connected to a conductor end 10 or 11.
To this end, each plate 8 is traversed by a screw 9 embedded in the block 7, of which it secures by engagement in a terminal 12 to which the conductor end 10 or 11 is secured. The contact between a screw 9 and the corresponding plate 8 is ensured, on the one hand, by a gasket 13 of the body of this screw, clamped between the head 14 of said screw 9 and the plate 8, and, on the other hand On the one hand, by a sheath 15 surrounding the same screw 9, between the terminal 12 and the plate 8. The sheath 15 carries a collar 16 which retains it in the base 7 and which comes against the plate 8.
In the known devices, the terminals where the conductors end are constituted by nut systems mounted on threaded bodies around which the ends of conductors are wound, shaped in loops to be clamped by the tightening of said nuts. . In particular, in built-in boxes, the terminals are "nipples" whose bodies are fixed to the bottom of the boxes. Securing the conductors to the terminals is often difficult and requires the use of pliers, wrenches, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the device according to the invention, each terminal, designated by 12, is a mass of conductive material fitted on a base plate 17. This plate 17, made of insulating material, can be the base of a recessed box or a panel supporting circuit breakers and, possibly, other components. Terminal 12 has at least one groove 18 for inserting a piece of conductor 10 or 11 therein. The conductor is secured in groove 18 by at least one pressure screw 19. In the embodiments illustrated by the figures, each terminal 12 has two parallel grooves 18, arranged on either side of the element intended to receive the screw 9. With each groove 18, are associated two pressure screws 19. For its part, the screw 9 enters a prominent tubing. 20, which is tapped.
The inlet 21 of the tubing 20 is countersunk to receive the corresponding end 22 of the sheath 15 which is terminated at a bevel. Furthermore, the sheath 15 is split longitudinally up to the proximity of its collar 16. For example, it may have two slots 33 arranged in a diametral plane. By driving the screw 9 into the pipe 20, the sheath 15 can enter the latter; is tightened there and then strongly clamps the body of said screw, thus ensuring good contact between the latter and the terminal 12: To make these arrangements even more effective, the contact of the screw 9 and of the plate 8 is also improved. For this purpose, the lining 13 according to the invention is elastic.
In an advantageous embodiment of the object of the invention, the terminal 12 has a rectangular base, loosely attached to a seat 23 arranged in the base plate 17. The terminal 12 is secured to the base plate. 17 by a nail 26 driven into a tubular appendage 27 which originates in the center of the aforesaid base and extends perpendicularly to the latter to enter an oval hole 28, made in the seat 23. A washer 34 retains the head of the nail 26 in a recess 35 made in the lower part of the seat 23. In addition, the latter has a groove 29, preferably in the middle and parallel to the grooves 18, in which at least one projection is engaged. 30 which also bears the underside of the base of terminal 12.
Advantageously, two projections 30, located on either side of the appendix 27, are provided. By these arrangements, terminal 12 is loosely secured to base plate 17 but is prevented from rotating, which facilitates the insertion and tightening of screw 9.
When the base plate 17 belongs to a recessed box, the seat 23 forms a body with this plate. It then has a cavity 31 corresponding to the base of terminal 12.
If the bottom plate 17 is a board, it is preferable to organize a removable seat 23. In this case (see Figure 4), the seat 23 is a die of insulating material, for example in the form of a truncated pyramid. This die has a height equal to the thickness of the bottom plate 17 and fits into a suitable housing 24.
In a particularly advantageous form of the object of the invention, the lining 13 of the screw 9 is constituted by a coil spring 25. This spring surrounds the body of the screw 9 and is inserted between two cylindrical yokes 32 of which said body passes through the bottoms and which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the spring 25 in order to fit it. -
The placement and connection of the circuit breaker according to the invention are very easy. Their execution requires only the use of a simple screwdriver. In addition, the particular organization of the sheaths and the linings which surround the fixing screws of the base, ensures the contacts, even when these screws are not fully tightened.
In addition, besides that the terminals of the device according to the invention are easily accessible, the sheaths which, split, clamp the bodies of the screws in question, prevent the latter from loosening under the influence of shocks and tremors.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above and that many modifications can be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
One could, in particular, constitute the poles of the fuse by two
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
slotted pins that fit into two mating sockets in the circuit breaker base or vice versa.
