ROBINET A BOISSEAU CYLINDRIQUE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

CYLINDRICAL BALL VALVE.
The essential characteristics of a tap or a valve are to present a perfect seal in the closed position and a reduced pressure drop in the open position. In addition, they must be easy to operate and without significant effort, without risk of jamming, reduced bulk and weight, low cost of virtually zero maintenance and rapid and inexpensive repair.
The diversity of existing taps and valves shows that the problem has only been solved for a series of special cases depending on the passage section and the nature of the fluid.
For example, the ordinary conical plug valve can only be used for reduced pressures and passage sections, and, even for these sections, it presents risks of jamming due to the large friction surface which it offers. - brake and the necessary tightening of the plug in the valve body to obtain a good seal
The present invention relates to a type of cylindrical plug valve satisfying all of the conditions indicated above, whatever the passage section of the fluid, its nature and its pressure. It is essentially characterized by a cylindrical plug with full bore and by the particular arrangement of suitable gaskets ensuring total tightness.
The advantages and improvements provided by the present invention result from the following description of an embodiment, chosen among others, of the recommended device, which is, below, related only by way of indication or example. and in no way limiting
Among the drawings illustrating the presentation:
Figure 1 is a view of the valve in vertical section, Figure 2 showing it in horizontal section.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
As shown in these Figures, the valve consists essentially of a hollow cylindrical body 1 carrying two diametrically opposed pipes 2 and 3 serving for assembly with the pipe.
Into the bore 4 of the body 1 is forcibly introduced a ring 5 provided with two shaped bores 6 and 7, diametrically opposed and centered on the axis of the tubes 2 and 3.
In the grooves 8 and 9 delimited by the bores 6 and 7 of the ring 5, the bore 4 of the body 1 and the outer face of the rings 10 and 11, introduced by force into the bores 12 and 13 of the pipes 2 and 3 and Going through the bore 4 of the body 1, are arranged the seals 14 and 15 of suitable material, the thickness of which is somewhat greater than that of the ring 5.
Inside the ring 5 is introduced without friction the cylindrical timber 16 pierced with a duct 17 perpendicular to its axis which can, by a suitable rotation be placed in extension of the tubes 2 and 3 and thus provide passage to the tube. fluid. The flow of the fluid can be interrupted by completely masking the aforementioned pipes by the wood which is rotated by the control rod 18 passing through the wall 19 of the body 10 The seal along the control rod is ensured by a seal 20 placed in a groove 21 machined in the wall 190
At its lower part, the body 1 is closed by a waterproof plug 220
As a result of the extra thickness of the seals 14 and 15, which is greater than the clearance left between the ring 5 and the plug 16,
the latter only rubs on the seals 14 and 15, hence the ease of ordering and the impossibility of blocking by grippageo
The seals 14 and 15 surrounding the conduits of the tubes 2 and 3 and compressed by the plug ensure the perfect tightness of the closure up to a value of the pressure of the fluid equivalent to that of the pressure at which the seal is crushed by the plug.
The foregoing description is in no way limiting, both as regards the nature of the materials used in the execution of the arrangement and the numbers, shapes, dimensions, proportions and relative positions of its parts or constituent elements.
On the contrary, use may be made of all materials and use of any industrial means or process of a constructive nature not expressly designated, without thereby compromising the very spirit of the process. 'invention.
