Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Alors on serre
 EMI8.4

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

On
 EMI10.7

   Lorsque,

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

METHOD AND DEVICE;, FOR LA.MINING EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR PROFILES,
ALL SORTS.

For the production by pressing or rolling of screw threads, it is known to use not only thread bearings and other tools, but also compression rolls mounted concentrically around the workpiece on a support, so as to to be free and independent of each other and to be able to turn on themselves. Said cylinders are provided, at their periphery, either with threads corresponding to the threads to be obtained, or with pressing grooves parallel to one another and perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder, these grooves being offset with respect to each other by a fraction of the pitch of the thread to be rolled corresponding to the number of rolls.

In each case the threading is produced by a pressing pressure directed radially with respect to the workpiece, so that special machines are required to roll the threads. According to the invention, on the contrary, the thread is rolled in a continuous operation, the part being moved with respect to the cylinders or vice versa in the axial direction of the part, so that the axial pressure generated during the operation. rolling gives rise, as a result of the upsetting of the outer surface of the part, to the formation of the crest (or apex) of the thread.

For this purpose, the profiled cylinders are mounted on a support such that their axes take;, with respect to the axis of the workpiece, a direction inclined at an angle which corresponds to the average pitch of the thread at pres - ser or laminate.

But then, due to this oblique position of the cylinders with respect to the axis of the part, only completely penetrate into the part, during the rolling of external profiles, the ridges (or teeth) of the profiles which are placed in the middle of the cylinders .. In order to avoid the overload supported as a result by these profiles and to allow a recalibration of the threads

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

rolled by the other profiles, which are located outside the middle of the cylinders, these are given, on their periphery and according to the invention, a concave shape to the extent that will make possible a complete contact of the cylinders rolling with the workpiece.

So, so that it is not necessary to form the first rolling profile immediately after the first shaping work, the invention provides an arrangement according to which the profiles of the front side of each cylinder are of different heights, so that the desired depth of threads is reached only after the passage of the first profiles of each cylinder and that, therefore, the rolling operation is carried out in stages.

In the case of the rolling of internal profiles, the rolls must, on their periphery, have a convexity corresponding to the internal diameter of the part and have an inlet and an outlet that are also corresponding, so that only the profiles of the middle give a profile over the entire depth.

The advantages of a profile rolling process with such rolls are significant. Apart from the fact that the cylinder support can be mounted on existing machine tools, for example by fixing the cylinder support on a lathe bed and the tool in the mandrel, or vice versa, it is possible, thanks to the invention, rolling in one continuous operation not only exterior and interior screw threads of all kinds, but also interior and exterior profiles of all kinds. Depending on the type of profile to be rolled, the cylinders arranged obliquely, with respect to the axis of the part, must have suitable profiles.

If, for example, during the rolling of external screw threads at a very large angle of inclination the angle of intersection of the axes of the workpiece and of the rolls became large enough so that the profiles on the front side of the rolls no longer touch the part, the profile to be rolled should be given the shape of a spiral or a spiral stripe on the rolls, the position angle of the axis of the cylinder with respect to the axis of the part not corresponding more to the angle of inclination of the profile to be rolled, but being kept only large enough that the rotating part can be transported axially, relative to the rolls, or conversely the rolls can be transported in this direction, relative to the stationary part.

The angle of inclination of the profiles of the rolls then results from the difference or the sum between the angle of inclination of the profile to be rolled and the angle of positioning of the axes of the rolls, depending on whether the profile is to be rolled. with step on the left or step on the right. Depending on the size of the angle of inclination of the profile arranged in a spiral or in a helical stripe, of the cylinders, on the one hand, and according to the size of the angle of positioning of the axes of the cylinders, on the other hand, the invention makes it possible to laminate the most different exterior or interior profiles in one room.

The profile cylinders are mounted to rotate freely on axes arranged eccentrically, which by their rotation make it possible to move the cylinders more or less away from their common medium or to move them towards this medium.

So that, after the end of rolling of a desired profile length, the rolls can be removed from their working position and the workpiece can be removed quickly, without having to be removed from the rolls, The invention has recourse to a mechanism, put under tension beforehand by springs, which acts on the eccentric axes and which, at the end of the rolling operation, is released by a stop, a coupling being established to produce a disengagement and the cylinders being put out of engagement with the rolled profile of the part.

The description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawings, given by way of example, will reveal the details of the invention in several embodiments.

The device of Figs 24 and 25 is set up for rotating parts and to be mounted so as not to rotate, for example on a tower base ;, while Figs 24 to 28 show in longitudinal section, in plan and in cross section a device which must be driven in rotation and be mounted in the case of a fixed part, for example in the mandrel of a lathe. FIG. 29 shows in partial longitudinal section a third embodiment and FIGS. 30 and 31 in longitudinal section and in cross section along C-D a fourth embodiment. The devices according to Figs 22 to 31 are to be used for rolling, for example, external threads.

Figs 32 and 33 show in front view and in section a device for the rolling of internal threads. Finally, figs 34 and 35 relate to a rolling head with a synchronization system
If we designate (see figs 1 and 2) by 1 the part and by 2a., 2b, 2c three profiled cylinders, arranged concentrically around this part and able to turn idle around their journals 5a, 5b, 5c, we will essentially notice that , in all the cases described in what follows, the axes of the cylinders 2a, 2b, 2c rotating idly on themselves form, in planes parallel to the axis of the part la an angle 3, with the axis of this part, this angle being visible figo 2 for the cylinder 2a.

If the cylinders 2a, 2b, 2c are 'provided with a profile, or it is the rotating support 4 which is screwed with' Its cylinders on the part 1, if these are the cylinders which rotate around the remaining part 1 fixed, or else it is the rotating part 1 which is screwed into the cylinders, if it is the part 1 introduced into the opening 4a of the fixed support 4 of the cylinders which rotates between the cylinders 2a, 2b, 2c.

In Figs 1 to 6, the profile to be rolled, for example an external thread, is provided in the form of parallel grooves perpendicular to the axes of the rolls on the rolls 2a, 2b, 2c. Fig. 5 clearly shows these grooves of the three cylinders which, for a better understanding, are shown on an enlarged scale one under the other. As this figure clearly shows, the crests of the profiles of the grooves of the three cylinders are offset with respect to each other by an amount equal to a fraction y of the pitch h of the laminerg thread this fraction corresponds to the number of cylinders arranged around the part according to fig. 1. If, as shown, there are three cylinders 2a, 2b, 2c the value of y happens to be equal to 1/3 h.

If then all the ridges of the profiles of the cylinders 2a, 2b, 2c had the same height, the total shaping work should be carried out during the rolling carried out by the first profiles of the set of cylinders arranged, as in fig. 1, around part 1, while the contoured grooves and ridges that follow would only calibrate the part, without

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

that one can eliminate a possible defect of lamination produced before.

In addition ;, the first rolling profiles would be overloaded and would wear prematurely. It is for this reason that, according to the invention, the profiles 2 ', 2 ", 2"' placed in front of the side are of different height, the cylinders being provided with an inlet and an outlet. inclined at a certain angle x. The size of this angle depends on the quality and the hardness of the part 1 and it has a value all the smaller as the material, into which the profile of the cylinder must penetrate, is harder. The magnitude of the angle x and of the pitch h therefore results in different heights Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4 of the ridges placed on the front side.

On the basis of an equal suitable length of the cylinders 2a., 2b, 2c one obtains for the cylinder 2a a height equal to the two ends and for the cylinders 612 ... and 2c ridges of frontal profiles of different height, the left end of cylinder 2b corresponding to the right end of cylinder 2c and the right end of cylinder 2b to the left end of cylinder 2c. If therefore the front left sides of the three cylinders are worn, cylinder 2a can be turned over on its journals 5a (see fig. 1), cylinder 2b on journals 5c and cylinder 2c on journals 5b, in order to be able to so use the other ends of the three rolls at the start of rolling.

It follows from the different heights of the rolling peaks 2 ', 2 ", 2"' that the rolling of the thread is carried out in stages; these stages which are represented in figs 6a and 6b are such that 1 represents the shape of the crest of the profile of cylinder 2a, b that of the crest of the profile of cylinder 2b and c that of the crest of cylinder 2c. In addition x again indicates the entry angle. The smaller this angle, the more stages are necessary to roll the full depth of the profile.

In figs 5 and 6a the grooves on the front side 2 ', 2 ", 2"' are, for a constant pitch h, offset, at the top as well as at the bottom of the profile, by an amount equal to tg x. h shaped staircase. In this case, the bottom of the profile has a recess back from the middle of the profile pitch, which causes some inaccuracy of the rolled thread, hence it is preferable, as shown in fig. 6b, to offset only the tops of the profiles in accordance with the angle x, and on the contrary to leave the bottom of the profile g, substantially of the same height as that of the other grooves of the profile. By keeping the bottom g of the profile constant, the accuracy of the thread to be rolled is increased.

The profile remaining after the offset is rounded at its peaks in order to obtain good flow of the workpiece surface during rolling and to prevent deterioration of the sidewalls by the presence of sharp edges which may remain. From a construction point of view, the radius of the rounding depends in each case on the width of the head surface of the crest and on the width of the sides of the profile.

As the cylinders are inclined at the angle 3 (see fig. 2 and 3) with respect to the axis of the part 1, only the ridge 2a 'which is at the bottom can penetrate entirely into it. meeting of the cylinder and the axis of the part; As a result, only this profile rolls the finished thread. Fig. 3 shows that only the profile 2a 'touches the part 1, while the profile ridges disposed towards the front sides of the cylinders move further and further away from the periphery of the part. The invention therefore enables the rolls 2a, 2b, 2c to be corrected by the fact that the rolling profile has in its cylindrical part 1 (see dotted lines 1 'to FIG. 5) a concavity of such magnitude that' it makes possible a complete contact of the cylinders with the periphery of the part 1.

Fig. 4 shows how, unlike what takes place, in FIG. 3, all ', the profiles placed in the part of the cylinders uniformly touch the periphery of the part 1. As all these profiles can thus penetrate over the entire depth of the thread in the part 19, it follows that an irreproachable calibration - ble is possible.

The conditions in the rolling of internal threads are the same as in the operation described for the rolling of external threads.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

Fig. 7 shows, by way of example, a cylinder for rolling internal threads, xi representing the entry and exit angle and 2i the front profiles offset at their peaks in correspondence with this angle., The dotted line It indicates the magnitude of the convexity given in this case to the cylinder, so that all the profiles placed in the middle enter the part uniformly. Depending on the fineness of the thread and the size of the pitch, two or more of the ridges of the Pi profiles, placed in the middle of the cylinder, will make the complete rolling of the internal profile.

Likewise, the rolls for rolling the inner profiles are arranged, according to fig. 6, concentrated to the axis of the part and mounted relative to the latter at an angle which corresponds to the average pitch height of the internal thread to be milled. In this case too, it is possible, for example, to use three cylinders 2i. Of course only two or on the contrary more than three cylinders can exist on the support 4i.

From the foregoing it is clear that with the rolls described, which have profiled grooves parallel to each other and perpendicular to the axes of the rolls, it is possible to roll external threads and also internal threads of all kinds, but only on condition that the angle of inclination of the thread to be rolled varies within normal limits., If, on the contrary, the pitch of this thread is. very large, the crossing angle w (see fig. 9) between the axis Wa of the workpiece W and the axis Pa of the profile cylinder P is so large that the profiles on the front side of the profile cylinder no longer touch the room. In these cases, the profile is given a spiral or helical stripe shape on the cylinders. Such a cylinder 2 is shown schematically in FIG. 9.

It is then no longer necessary that the positioning angle of the cylinder 2, relative to the part W, corresponds to the angle of inclination 2, of the profile to be rolled; on the contrary, it only needs to be large enough for the part to be moved by the cylinders 2g arranged around it. The angle of inclination 8 of the spiral profile arranged on the cylinders 2 is obtained by the difference between or the sum of the angle of inclination 2-to the profile to be rolled and the positioning angle 6 of the cylinder 2g relative to the part W, depending on whether the profile to be rolled must, for example, be rolled onto the part as not to the left or not to the right.

If a profile is rolled in a part W with profile cylinders such as 2g, the part is not moved by the cylinders 2g following a stroke corresponding to the angle of inclination 7 of the profile to be obtained on it, but on the contrary, it is transported by these cylinders with a reduction in speed obtained by a mechanism. According to the magnitude of the angle of inclination 8 of the profile of the spiral cylinder or helical stripe, on the one hand, and the magnitude of the positioning angle of the cylinders 2g with respect to the part W, on the other On the other hand, it is therefore possible to laminate the most different profiles on the part W.

Thus, for example, it is possible to roll, in addition to multiple-pitch thread profiles of any pitch, besides toothed wheels, helical wheels, or the like, also more or less profiles. direction of the axis of the workpiece and even parallel, so that the invention also makes it possible to roll key shafts, notched and conical-shaped teeth, spiral drills, reamers, etc. , for example, the positioning angle is equal to the tilt angle! 2. from the profile it is possible to roll axes, discs or other parts with profiles parallel to each other and perpendicular to the axis of the part.

In addition, it is by no means necessary that the spiral or the helical stripe extend in the same direction and always with the same angle of inclination 8, on the cylinders 2g arranged around the part W; the profiles of the cylinders 2g can, on the contrary, be reversed and / or be formed on the cylinders 2 with different inclinations.

This makes it possible, for example, to also roll cross-shaped profiles such as cross teeth, knurls, in the workpiece.

In what follows, a few examples of rolling such profiles have been described.

Fig. 16 shows the making of an axis W5 with a combination of grooves and grooves, therefore a combination of the arrangements of figs 11 and 13 which is obtained using the two profiled cylinders provided at this location.

In the event that high precision is required to obtain with certainty an irreproachable cooperation of the profiled cylinders with each other, on the one hand, and with the profile of the part, on the other hand, the invention includes a synchronization device whose an example is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 17. In all the cases described above, the shaping work necessary to obtain the profile of the part is done in the axial direction of the passage of the part, so that, unlike what takes place for the processes of known conformation working in the radial direction of the part, a significant increase in resistance of the part surface is obtained, particularly in the case of profile tops, so that the finished rolled part leaves the rolls in the same state. net polish. In the case of arduous shaping work, it is necessary to preheat the parts.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

After having described the invention in theory, the following will describe, by way of example, the devices which are suitable for rolling threads by the process of the invention.

In all the examples presented, particular importance is attached to the fact that the cylinders are adjustable in position in their support, so that they can be moved according to the different diameters of the parts. They can, for example, as in Figs 18 to 21, be movable in an annular box, such as that known for what are called dies.

Further, in the embodiments of Figs 22 to 35, care is taken that the rolls are automatically switched off when a desired profile length has been obtained.

According to figs 18 to 21 the three profiled cylinders 13 are housed in a box C between a front plate A and an intermediate plate B. They are mounted freely rotating on eccentrics D 'of the axes D which are provided with wheels. toothed Eo These mesh, as shown in fig, 20, with a ring F with internal teeth arranged on the screws and driven by the latter. The ring F has recesses F 'where a key can be engaged. According to fig 21 the toothed wheels E can also come

 EMI7.2
 with a key.

Towards the rear, the rolling tool is reopened by a disc H which is screwed, together with the front plate A, on the box Ç and the intermediate disc B using screws G.

If the cylinders 13 must be adapted to the diameter of the workpiece to be rolled, the ring F or the toothed ring Fa is rotated using a wrench, in such a way that the toothed wheels E, and with those- here the ex-

centrics D 'of bolt Dg are rotated and the cylinders move inward or outward according to the direction of rotation of the rings F and Fa. The magnitude of this rotation can be read on a scale arranged on - the box C and which corresponds with an index which is on the ring F or µ. Instead of the toothed wheels E it is also possible to use toothed segments or levers or the like, by the actuation of which the cylinders 13 move as described.

In figs 22 and 23 the support of the rolls is shaped as what is called a rolling head. This, according to figs 22
 EMI7.4
to 25, consists essentially, for example, of three cylinders 13a, 13b.

"13c are provided with 14a ', 14b', 14c 'of eccentrics on which the cylinders are arranged by the intermediate needle bearings, ball bearings or other bearings, so as to be easily accessible. At the ends, which pass through the support plate 11, pins

its recess a profil.polyangula5.re9 so that it can slide on the shaft 17 in the direction of the axis.

The two support plates 10 and 11 are kept apart

from each other by threaded axles 18a, 18b "18c which serve, at the same time, to fix a box 12. enveloping the toothed wheels, 15b. 15c and 16. For this purpose, the box 1, ( see fig 25) has slots 19b which pass through the threaded ends of bolts 18a, 18b, 18co Said box is fixed on the support plate 11 by tightening nuts 18a ', 18b', 18c '(see fig 24) In the box 19 which together with the support plates 10 and 11 forms one of the rolling head coupling halves, there is a spiral spring 20 attached, under tension from its outer end. upper, to box 19 and, by its inner end,

toothed wheels 15.ao 15b 15c meshing with the previous one, in the directions shown in fig. la, and the cylinders, 13b. 13c in the open position of the coupling. On the other hand, the spring 20 tends by an elastic force directed axially to maintain in the closed position
 EMI8.2
the two halves of the coupling 17b y 19a.

Externally to the box 19 is attached a lever 21.

The operation of this rolling head is as follows:
 EMI8.3
After having loosened the nuts 1 $ a ', 18b', 18¯cl we make, by rotating the gearbox 12. in its slots 19b with the shaft 17. turn the toothed wheel 16 and we adjust, at the using the cogwheels 15a. 15b. 15c and eccentrics 14a ', 14b', 14c ', the opening of the rolls to the diameter of the workpiece on which the screw threads are to be formed, in correspondence with the rolling pressure. For this purpose, on the box 19 is arranged a scale Q which corresponds with an index provided on the plate 11. Then we tighten
 EMI8.4
again the nuts 1¯ $ a'g 18b '1 $ e' and the shaft 12 of the rolling head is mounted, for example on the support of a lathe bench.

If then the rolling head is passed over the part clamped in the mandrel of the lathe and which rotates, the grooves made in an inclined position in the manner described

workpiece and cylinders 13a. the 3b, 13c are screwed onto the rotating part.

As soon as this screwing movement of the rolling head meets resistance, for example a stopper, the claws 19a of the coupling halves
 EMI8.7
plement 19. 11., 10 are pulled out of the region of the claws 17b of the other coupling halves attached to the carrier, against the action exerted by the spring 20 in the axial direction, in the direction of the arrow shown in fig. 24, so that the parts forming the coupling halves

The relative rotation of the two halves of the coupling must be
 EMI8.9
be limited so that the cylinders 12a, 13b> 13c can be returned safely to their initial position. The claws 19a are therefore arranged in steps, so that, during the release of the coupling and
 EMI8.10
the rotation of the box 12 in the direction JL9Î (see fig. 4), the sides 19a 'of the claw 19a abut on the fixed flanks in stages 17b' of the claw 19b, and thus stops the rotational movement of the halves of the 'coupling J.2. il-9 10.

The disengagement of the coupling can be caused, for example, by a stop 22 (see fig. 23) formed by an adjustable bolt arranged at the end of the shaft 17 and which causes the disengagement when the part abuts against it. said bolt.

If the screw threads are to be of great length, the stop bolt 22 is omitted, so that the rolled part can come out of the shaft 17. In this case, the release takes place, preferably, by the ac. - tion of an adjustable stop fixed on the support.

Instead of the spring 20, which acts as a spiral spring and a pressure spring at the same time, two springs can be used, one of which in the form of a coil spring exerts the axial elastic force. At
 EMI8.11
Instead of the claws 17bn 19a, it is possible to have recourse to other coupling members such as stops. The connection of the shaft 17 with the toothed wheel 16 by means of a profile with several angles is also an important point. As it is advisable to protect the interior of the coupling to limit the length of the adjustment slots 19b, we enlarge,
 EMI8.12
if necessary, the opening of the cylinders 13a. 13b, 13e by threading the toothed wheel 16 onto the z-shaft in position.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

The described rolling head is preferably intended for its attachment to a suitable machine tool, where the workpiece rotates.

However, you can also do this by fixing the part and having the head buried. Only then, after each disengagement of the coupling, must stop the rolling head in order to bring it back to its working position.

In order to avoid this, we mount (see figs 26 to 29) half 19 'of the coupling which generates the torque of the shaft, which, in these cases, has a rotational movement, of so that it is axially movable, as an actuator on shaft 17 'while being prevented from rotating.

In the example of figs 26 to 28, between two support plates
 EMI9.1
10 'and 11' are mounted two or more cylinders 9 1'3b '13c' freely rotating around shafts 14 'housed eccentrically. The latter, in this case, are not rotated by cogwheels, but by
 EMI9.2
cranks 15 a'o 15b'9 15 c '. in such a way that, if necessary, the cylinders Ilal, 13b'9 l3c 'can be moved away in the radial direction from the part not shown.

For this purpose, the journals of the cranks 15a'9 15b'9 15c 'are guided by blocks 16' movable in slots 23a of a disc 39 connected by bolts 24 with the disc 1'r and which can rotate with this on the hollow shaft 121.- The bolts 24 are guided in elongated holes 24a (see fig 28) of the disc 19 ', so that the discs 23 and 19' can be moved one by one. report to the other after li-

In the tubular extension 19b of the disc 19 'is arranged a control member 25 movable without being able to turn which, by one or more
 EMI9.5
rollers 25 a. is guided in inclined slots 19c (see fig 27) provided - in the extension 19b. In said control member 25 can move a coupling system 26 against springs 27 which surround a guide rod 28. These springs 27 tend to hold the coupling system 26 with its claws 26a in it. corresponding recesses of the dis-

19 'and to be tensioned when the coupling 26. the control member 25, being at rest, is moved along the bolt 28.

The coupling member 26 has pins which move in slots 17a of the shaft 17 'and are connected to a socket 30, which can move in the shaft 17' against a spring 31, and has inside a pin 32 adjustable and fixable in position.

The operation of this rolling head, which can be mounted with its shaft 17 ', for example in the mandrel of a lathe bench, is as follows As in the example of Figs 22 to 25, to adjust the position of the desired thread we first loosen the nuts of the bolts 24
 EMI9.7
and the relative position of the discs 23 and 1 is adjusted using the scale and the index 0 (see fig. 28). After tightening the bolts 24 the rolling head is ready for operation. In the engaged position shown
 EMI9.8
feeling of the coupling the cylinders 13a'9 13b ', 13c' of the rotating head roll on the workpiece and roll the thread in the surface thereof.

When the workpiece meets the pre-set axis 32, according to the desired thread length, the sleeve 30 moves to the right, considering fig. 22, against the spring 31, the pins 29 slide in the slots 17a of the shaft 17 'along them and the claws 26a of the coupling system 26 are released. of the disc 19 'against the springs?: As a result of the rolling pressure and the action of the spiral spring 20' housed in the box 19 ', 23 ,, this box rotated in the opposite direction of the movement of shaft rotation 12 .:

 EMI9.9
movement of the box 9 the blocks 16 'of the cranks 15a'9 l5b', 15 c 'are entrained in the slots 23 a of the disc 23, and the cranks and the eccentric shafts of the cylinders iliekl, 13b', l3c 'are rotated, so

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

so that said cylinders move radially away from the part. After the part has been released, this part can be withdrawn by hand from the rolling head, or be pushed out of said head automatically, for example by the stop 32 returning to its indicated position, without it being necessary to stop the movement of the rotary shaft 17 '.

Instead of being done automatically as described, the disengagement can, if necessary, be done by hand at any time, by moving to the right, considered in fig. 22 and 23, of the control member 25 with the coupling member 26 by means of a lever housed in an annular slot 25b of said control member, the phases of movement being the same as in the disengagement described by stopping the part on the axis 32.

A slot 30a which the bush 30 has, allows this bush to be moved without training. Also in this case, it is not necessary to stop the rotating rolling head. In all cases the disengagement of the rolling operation takes place immediately under the action of the rolling pressure and the disengagement of the rolls by the spring 20 ', so that one obtains in a manner certain thread pitches of the same length on the part.

When a new part is to receive a thread, the control member 25 is again pushed to the left (figs 22 and 23) during the rotation of the shaft 17 ', its roller 25a being pushed downwards.

along the slope of the slot 1-c, so that the disks 12, gi rotate in the opposite direction by an amount large enough that, under the action of the springs 27, the claws 26a fall into the recesses corresponding of the disc 19 '. The spring 20 'is then tensioned again and the
 EMI10.2
cylinders 13a '", s the 3b' s the 3c 'are returned to the operating position.

In order to keep, particularly in the case of the manufacture of very short threads, as small as possible the stroke of the coupling conditioned by the ramp 19c and necessary to re-engage the disengaged coupling, a friction coupling is used, as shown in fig 29. The box that contains the 20 'coil spring is

in slots 17a 'of the shaft 17 ". The control member 25' is guided in a support ring ¯3 ± practically fixed in position and which has recesses for receiving levers and acts by a brake lining 34 on the 19 "disc in the box.

When, at the end of the thread rolling operation, the part meets the stop 32 ', the coupling claws 25a' are
 EMI10.5
released from the disc 19 "and the bolt 32'¯. the sleeve 3L and, by means of the tenons, the coupling member 25 'are pushed into the fixed ring 33, to the right, (fig. 25 The spring 20 "is then released and allows the above-described control of the cylinders. If these have to be brought back to the position ready for work, the brake 33, 34 is pressed with the aid of a lever not shown against the rotating disc 19 "which brakes the latter, thus such that the number of revolutions of this disc is delayed compared to that of the shaft 17 ".

We thus obtain the same movements as those described in the case where we use
 EMI10.6
bends the slotted guide 12c¯g 25a, of fig. 24.

Figs 30 and 31 show a similar embodiment. We
 EMI10.7
uses, instead of the shaft 17 'or 17 "a flanged element 1 i"' which makes it possible to connect the rolling head to a machine for rolling or cutting threads or to a lathe bed. This embodiment differs from the previous two described in that, when the spring is released
 EMI10.8
20 "'y the 23" box. 9 19 ", starts to rotate in the direction of the rotational movement. On the axes of the cylinders! Le, 13b" j! 13crt, which, as in figs 18 to 1, are housed eccentrically, are arranged, instead of cranks, toothed sectors 15.r ', 15b "15c r which mesh with portions of crowns belonging to the disc 15" and which are internally toothed.

   When,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

when the spring 20 "is released (as shown in fig.27) the disc
 EMI11.1
rotates in the direction of the arrow, the toothed sectors 15a ", 15bn 15c" are rotated in the same direction and the cylinders 13a'99 13b g ± f come, due to their eccentricity, into the open position.

The operation is for the rest the same as that described for the other examples. The discs 15 "and 23" are preferably mounted relative to each other on a ball.

All of the rolling heads described above are made for use in rolling external threads. We must therefore now describe a simple head for rolling internal threads o This head is re-
 EMI11.2
shown in figs 32 and 33. In this case, the profile cylinders ka, b.Ob9 40c are kept narrower and have more the appearance of rollers. They are
 EMI11.3
also housed eccentrically between two plates 41a9 4lobo but in such a way that the periphery of the profiles protrudes over the edge of the plates and can penetrate into the wall of the part 42.

This rolling head for the rest corresponds to that of the pin 24, with the difference that,
 EMI11.4
when the profiled rollers 40a9 40b, zoé are released, they oscillate not radially outwards, but radially inwards in the directions of the arrows shown in fig. 32. This possibility of displacement can only take place in the case of parts having a sufficiently large internal diameter. In the case of smaller passages, the toothed wheels 43 will have to be dispensed with and toothed on the support axes of the profile rollers 40a, 40b, 40c themselves., If the dimensions are even smaller. the possibility of moving the rollers disappears completely and the mounting shaft 44 must be connected directly to the plate 41b.

In the case where the passage of the part is very small it is possible, instead of the three rollers 40a, 40b, 40c to be satisfied with two rollers ;, whose profile grooves must then be offset from each other by half of the height. teur of the step.

Figures 34 and 35 show a rolling head, which in principle differs from the heads described only in that the profiled rolls K1, K2 are connected to one another desmodromically inside the head. For ease of understanding, only two profiled rollers K1, K2 have been shown. This head is preferably, in practice, equipped with three rollers.

Thanks to the synchronization of the profile rollers, an exact division of the partial circle of the profile to be rolled is obtained each time ;, the positioning angle of the rollers K1, K2 in relation to the axis of the workpiece

which must only have a small value, for example 1 9, in order to be able, after the positioning of the profiled rollers having suitable angles of inclination to the surface of their profiles, to roll onto the part, with one and the same head de'laminage, profiles having an inclination angle of 0 to 180.

@ Likewise, with this rolling head, the axes of the rollers K1, K2 or these rollers themselves are provided with toothed wheels which mesh with pinions M1, M2, on the axis of each of which is wedged a pin.
 EMI11.6
gnon Ni N2 (see TigT 34) o These pinions are meshed with a ring gear 09 which can turn on the hollow shaft P of the rolling head.

The rest of the construction of this head is the same as for the head of the pin 29. During the rolling operation with this head the rollers K1, K2 set in rotation by the part remain in desmodromic connection, by the in-

Of course, the synchronization, instead of being obtained in the manner described above, can be obtained by other means ensuring dismodromism, for example chains of the cranks, eccentrics or the like. .
