 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  BOTTLE CLOSURES.

   The invention relates to closures for bottles, jars and similar containers. ,
An object of the invention is to create a new improved closure by means of which an absolutely hermetic seal can. obtained, preventing liquids or gases in the cylinder from escaping.

   Another object of the invention consists in peeling a closure made of a material having a high resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents, and which is easily sterilizable.

   Another object of the invention is to create a closure which does not adhere or does not stick to the container.

   The closure according to the invention can be used on bottles having different neck interior diameters while obtaining the same hermetic closure.

   The attached drawing shows several embodiments of the closure. The same numbers are used to represent the same parts each time.

   Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a closure according to the invention.

   Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a modified form.

   Fig. 5 is a plan view of another: a modified form of a hermetic seal means.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Fig. 6 is a plan view taken from below of a cap mating with the seal means of FIG. 5.

   Fig. 7 is a sectional view of another embodiment of an element forming a seal according to the invention.

   As shown, the invention comprises a cap 1, the side walls of which are provided with threads 2 which engage with the threads 3 of the neck of the bottle 4 or of another container. The cap 1 is made of plastic or the like. A central pin 5 starts from the bottom of the cap 1 towards the inside; it can be solid or be provided with a notch 6 as indicated in FIG. 1.

   The seal element of the closure comprises a body of non-perforated elastic material, in one piece, carrying a central sleeve 7 closed at its lower end by a disc 8 which forms an integral part thereof and a flange 9 which protrudes from the bottom. outside and above from the sleeve 7. The sleeve 7 has a snap which fits over the stud 5 of the cap 1 to keep the closure member and the cap assembled together when they are removed from the container, and it has limited axial movement clearance relative to the stud.

   This movement clearance is obtained by combining the dimensions of the stud 5, the sleeve 7 and the closure flange 9 so that the top of the sleeve 7 is spaced from the base of the stud 5, and the disc 8 is spaced from the top. the lower end of stud 5 when the closure is securely attached to a bottle 4 or other container.

   The edge of the gasket flange 9 is initially conical, as shown in FIG. 7 and its upper edge rests on the inner face of the cap 1 when the seal member is assembled on the cap by sliding the sleeve 7 over the stud 5. The tapered peripheral part of the flange 9 centers the cap 1 on the neck of the bottle 4 on which it is applied, thus facilitating the proper engagement of the thread of the cap 2 on the thread 3 of the neck of the bottle. By turning the cap so that it is pressed onto the bottle, the tapered peripheral part of the flange 9 is forced down and out over the inner edge of the bottle neck in a manner similar to that of the bottle neck. winding of a metal sheet above an annular mold.

   The sleeve 7 slides upward on the stud 5 during the tightening of the closure on the bottle, and into the final fully closed position as shown in FIG. 1, the edge of the flange 9 is tightly compressed on the top surface of the bottle by the cap 1.

   From the point of view of the sealing of the seal means, it does not matter whether the inner width of the neck is wide or narrow because the conical elastic edge of the flange 9 is screwed on or rolled up forming a tight contact. hermetic seal with the inner edge of the bottle neck despite the variation in size and shape of the bottle neck.

   If sticky or siccative substances are retained in the bottle, there is a danger that the seal means will stick to the neck when the cap is screwed onto the bottle. For this reason the studs according to Fig. 2 may be provided with a diametric groove 10 disposed in the end of the stud 5 into which penetrates a rib 11 disposed on the bottom of the disc 3 of the sleeve so that the means forming the joints are forced to rotate when the screw is unscrewed. hood.

   In Figs. 3 and 4 show another means of rotation.

  The stud 5 is provided with axial grooves 12 into which the corresponding axial ribs 13 penetrate inside the sleeve 7.

   Figs. 5 and 6 show another control means between the stud 5 and the sleeve 7. The stud 5 is provided with axial ribs 14 which penetrate into corresponding axial grooves 15 provided at the top.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 inner face of the sleeve.

   In Fig. 7 shows a closure means in which a central stud 16 is provided instead of the sleeve 7 as previously described. The stud 16 is constructed to fit into the notch 6 shown in FIG. 1 for the same purpose as the sleeve 7.

   The seal means may consist of a plastic material such as polyethylene, having high resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents, and which does not influence the taste of the substance contained in the bottle.
